Our History

The first Coastal Angler Magazine was published in the spring of 1995 for Brevard County, FL. From 1995-2008 the magazine established itself as a localized and highly respected monthly publication.

In 2008, Coastal Angler Magazine Franchising Inc. adopted this successful business model and began franchising. Over the next few years, the elevated standards promoted by Coastal Angler Magazine and its franchisee group have enabled the publication to be considered an industry leader. In 2011, Coastal Angler Magazine introduced The Angler Magazine to meet the demand for freshwater interior markets. These freshwater markets have been as successful as the coastal markets.

The cornerstone of Coastal Angler and The Angler Magazines business philosophy is to bring to the public a well-designed, thoughtful publication that provides newsworthy and

entertaining information pertinent to the marine and fishing industries, and to do so within the format of a free monthly magazine. Each issue of Coastal Angler and The Angler Magazine is designed and formatted to be informative and enjoyable reading geared toward the outdoors enthusiast.

The day-to-day operations of all Coastal Angler and The Angler Magazine franchise locations consistently follow a tried and proven system that ensures the coordinated actions of each member of the business team. Coastal Angler Magazine Franchising distinguishes itself as a team of co-publishers working both together and separately to publish free print and online magazines while partnering with local, statewide and national businesses in an effort to expand their profits and sustain their business both today and into the future.

Our Position in the Industry

Local fishing guides provide accurate forecasting, technique advice and species targeting recommendations that ensure a good day on the water. National columnists provide product reviews, field testing reports and “How To”s that keep our readers well informed and up to date on the marine and outdoor industries. This resource quickly creates a loyal local readership that business owners and advertisers desire to reach and be identified with. The Outdoor Enthusiast is a great customer and knowing that they read the magazine each month creates a mutually beneficial relationship between Coastal Angler Magazine and the business community. Our franchisees enjoy this position and are sought after participants in local fishing tournaments, fishing clubs and marine expos. Becoming the voice of the local outdoor enthusiast community is an important position that our franchisees take on with the publishing of their first edition.

Our innovative approach to publishing, along with our massive circulation and our unique Video Magazine, have enabled us to become the industry leader in the field of outdoor enthusiasts.

An Industry First

The Angler Video Magazine offers its readers a truly unique interactive experience. By placing related video on each editorial page, readers can now experience the ability to watch videos while simultaneously reading a magazine page about the same subject.

Testimonials

Fort Myers & Naples Co-Publisher

“I’ve owned the Fort Myers edition of Coastal Angler Magazine for a little over six years. Before that I worked in the insurance and teaching fields. I love that this job gives me the opportunity to get out and meet new people on a regular basis. I don’t like being in an office every day from 9:00-5:00. There are no meetings every Friday afternoon like in my previous jobs.

You’re your own boss. You get out of it what you put into it. If you work hard, you get to reap the rewards.”

Nadeen Welch

Fort Myers & Naples Co-Publisher

Sarasota & Florida Keys Co-Publisher

“I’ve owned my Sarasota Coastal Angler Franchise for over six years. Prior to that, I was Principal & Managing Director of a Financial Services Company for 25+ Years. I love having the ability to interface with many different types of businesses, develop advertising strategies to help clients grow their brand and business, network with many different types of industry leaders, and being part of the solution to my clients’ success.

I’m fortunate to be part of an industry that allows me to work in the field that I personally enjoy – boating & fishing – while having complete control over how I grow my business, branding myself within my community, and having a product that no one else has – national, regional, and local content that I constantly hear our readership say, ‘I love your magazine!’

Being a part of this franchise system provides the opportunity to be part of a respected National publication without trying to produce or reinvent the content that we publish as a group. It would be impossible to replicate a publication with so much diversification and information that our readership looks forward to each month.

This franchise system has allowed an exit strategy for me from my Financial Services business while providing a method to start up a new enjoyable and financially rewarding business quickly. I have enjoyed running the Sarasota Franchise so much that I recently bought the Florida Keys Franchise as well!”

Sarasota & Florida Keys Co-Publisher

Treasure Coast Co-Publishers

“Both of us were acquainted with Coastal Angler Magazine as advertisers before entertaining the opportunity to become franchise owners. The transition to ownership was easy, training and support materials are readily available, and the Coastal Angler Magazine culture is an easy one to adopt. Owning our franchise allows us to capitalize on our existing relationships in the county, spread

the fishing-boating-conservation message, and spend more time on the water, while financially profiting from doing what we love!”

Gary & Misti Guertin Treasure Coast Co-Publishers

Lake Erie, Ohio Co-Publisher

“Thank you for encouraging me to acquire the Lake Erie, Ohio franchise. I am absolutely having a ball running the magazine. I don’t believe there’s any other profession that I would ever want to be involved in. Looking back, I can’t believe I was so nervous about putting my first edition together. You and everyone else at the corporate office were correct. It wasn’t that difficult and now after getting several editions under my belt, it’s actually kind of fun.

I thought you should know that everywhere I go, almost every day someone comes up to me and says, ‘Man, I love your magazine!’ Thanks again for the good training and solid support. I really feel like I’m part of something special.”

Steps To Ownership

1. Complete Request For Consideration/Application Form

To assist us in determining your best path to ownership, the first step is to complete our informal application. It is no way binding and we will never contact your employer; all of your information is entirely confidential.

2. Introductory Call with a Coastal Angler Magazine Franchise Developer

Once we have your application or contact information, we will schedule an introductory call with one of our Franchise Developers. The purpose of this call is to learn about each other and determine if joining our Team of Franchise owners will be a good fit. We will discuss your experience, skills set, and professional needs. We will give you a basic overview of how the franchise system works and what is required to become a Franchisee.

If we approve you as an ideal candidate and you think we are a good fit, then we will proceed. If you are available to visit our Corporate headquarters in Cocoa Beach FL, we will invite you to a Discovery Day to meet our Team in person.

3. Determine Franchise Territory

The next step is to determine your ideal franchise territory. The franchise territory represents the foundation of the business. It is where your customers, revenues and future growth will come from. You will work closely with our Franchise Developer to determine the location that best suits your needs. Ideally, this territory is where you live, or plan on living, since our business model is home-based.

Our franchise territories are protected, defined by county lines, and are based on a population of at least 500,000. Your franchise territory will either be a new or an existing publication. Since our territories are protected, no other Coastal Angler Magazine or The Angler Magazine can be established within your defined area.

4. Receive Coastal Angler Magazine Franchise Disclosure Document and Application

After your territory has been selected, we will send you the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD). This is the agreement that the Franchisor and Franchisee will ultimately sign at the time of purchase regardless of whether you are buying a new or existing franchise. It spells out, with specificity, the responsibilities of the Franchisee and the obligations of the Franchisor, as well as many other vital details about the business. Once you have received the Franchise Disclosure Document, you will enter into your due diligence period.

5. Complete Due Diligence

Purchasing any business is a very important decision that should not be considered lightly. Take ample time to conduct your due diligence, speak to existing franchise owners in the system, and consult outside professionals to ensure this business is right for you and your family.

6. Complete Closing Paperwork

Once you have completed your due diligence period and you have determined that joining our Team of co-publisher Franchisees is right for you, you will sign the FDD and purchase the franchise. Then, you will participate in three days of New Franchisee Training and publish your first edition.

Congratulations! You are now the new co-publisher of your area’s favorite fishing magazine, Coastal Angler & The Angler Magazine.
