Serving the Coastal Communities of Palm Beach County
Third Time is a Charm for
A heavy weather storm stood by on Saturday, October 28nd as the co-hosts American Legion Post 271, Bureau of Land Management, FishingCommunity. Org, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Leonard Bryant Photography, Loxahatchee River Historical Society, U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps, Through Our Lens LLC, Tommy Bahama Restaurant, Davis Elkins Foundation, West Palm Beach Fishing Club and many other partners conducted the 3rd Annual Jupiter Inlet Veterans Family Fishing Classic (Classic) event for wounded, injured or ill heroes and their families at the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area in Palm Beach County, Florida. For the 58 veteran and family participants and 48 volunteers, a time for fishing, comradery and mentoring using public lands created a very special community event. “It never ceases to amaze me how the local communities respond and make things happen for our nation’s heroes and their families” said Paul Ketrick, founder of FishingCommunity.Org. “We are proud to facilitate and help create this opportunity for wounded heroes and their families to meet and fish with local community supporters using public lands at this historic location.” The Classic is an application of the Fisheries for Veterans Project. The event is just one of many veterans’ family fishing activities going on at the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area, designated by Congress and managed by the Bureau of Land Management as part of the National Conservation Lands for unique and nationally significant resources that have important cultural, ecological, and scientific value. “The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area is honored to be home to the Veterans Fishing Classic site again in 2017. We are also excited about the other veterans fishing programs we have been working to create for the public” said Peter De Witt, local Program Manager for the Bureau. In addition to the Classic, other ongoing and new veterans and family fishing classes and public lands projects are lined up for 2017 and 2018. For example, a free “Evening Fish and Learn” class will take place on site December 27th this year. Sign up at www.f4v.org/jionaclasses. For more information on future projects, and how to get involved, check out www.f4v.org or contact Paul Ketrickof FishingCommunity. Org at boater@fishingcommunity.org. For additional information about the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Outstanding Natural Area see www. blm.gov/JupiterONA or follow the site on Facebook at www.facebook. com/BLMJupiterInlet. The Fisheries for Veterans Project is a national service model to utilize America’s public lands fishing resources to develop engagement and vitality between state and federal agencies, local communities, Veteran Affairs, Department of Defense, the local fishing community, and veterans and their families. All activities are free of charge and open to all veterans, all veteran family members, of any disability, of any service campaign. We invite participation by any person, organization Fish on! at Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse ONA or agency who wants to help make a difference.

ROAD TRIPFISHING Living Up to “Great Expectations” by Keith Lozott, Contributing Writer Last month I was in full anticipation of my annual guy’s trip to Red caught sightfishing the Biloxi Marsh where redfish flourish and typically never disappoint. This year the stars, the moon, the planets, the magnetic poles of the earth and/or anything you can think of must have aligned for the trip. We were treated with great weather accept for the 4th day of the 5 day trip and it ended up to be a memorable day on the water anyway. I hooked a 4 to 5 foot alligator gar that tail walked next to the boat like a sailfish and at one point we thought he was coming in the skiff with us when it charged us right before he spit the gold spoon. Martin, the fly casting machine that he is, was going to use my fish grip on this beast if it wouldn’t have spit the lure boat side. Thank God it did! Let’s get to Beauty from Biloxi the redfish action that we were treated with! I have struggled to describe to my friends who didn’t go or couldn’t go how phenomenal the fishing was. I would venture a guess that 90% to 95% of the reds we caught were all sight casted and for the avid, recreational or novice angler this will put your fishing senses into overdrive. We would scan the GPS for areas that fit our pattern of where we thought the fish would be and sure enough they were there. We used the trolling motor and slowly went up creeks peering for reds patrolling the shorelines. I fished the back of my skiff most of the trip on the polling platform where my line of sight was at the perfect position for locating fish. Martin fished the pointy end of the skiff where he stood on the cooler/casting deck with his fly rod cocked and loaded. We were like an oiled machine trading turns casting at cruising fish and we experienced hook up after hook up after hook up. Quite a few times fish would come within five yards of the boat and I would pitch an Exude Dart or DOA root beer chartreuse paddle tail jig rigged weedless in front of them and they would pounce on the offering without a care in the world. They very well may have hit a beer cap rigged weedless for all we knew. Martin would drop fly’s right on the head of fish and they would explode on the fly instantly. So many times, we would break out into laughter how insane the bites were because we were so use to the spooky reds of the Indian River or the Treasure Coast or the numerous other spots we’ve fished in Florida. I’m not saying we don’t sight fish for reds in Florida, but there is something genetic in the Louisiana redfish that makes them not care that you are nearby. For example, we hit a few oysters thirty or forty feet from several fish and they didn’t move only to be caught a few minutes later. Amazing, unbelievable, memories and stories that I will tell over and over are cemented in my mind forever. If I’m never able to go again I will always be able to conjure up one of the numerous memories I have of the Biloxi Marsh. You owe it to yourself to travel and fish areas you only see on TV. It isn’t expensive if you have a few skiffs amongst friends who are willing and able to share the experience with you.
Fishing with Darcizzle by Darcie Arahill Contributing Writer Happy Holidays Anglers! During December we will continue to have cooling air and sea temperatures, providing a much needed break from the heat and causing the offshore bite to fire up. Sailfish season will continue to provide anglers plenty of tail walking, drag screaming action. The sailfish use cold fronts to aid their southerly migration, and their numbers will continue to grow this month as they migrate through our waters. This is the time of the year when anglers from all around the world come to “Sailfish Alley” aka South Florida to target sailfish! If you are looking to catch a sailfish, it is important to pay attention to the wind direction and the barometric pressure. Many anglers believe northerly winds get the sailfish feeding but it is also due to high pressure. The offshore bite will be red-hot with stable high pressure conditions. After a couple days of consistent pressure, you have a good chance of catching this “bucket list” fish so plan accordingly! The bite also turns on before approaching cold fronts and rain, so keep this in mind when planning a fishing trip this month. Last month, we hooked quite a few sailfish slow trolling blue runners. Mahi Mahi will also be migrating south from the northern states with the help of cold fronts. The mahi mahi should range from 6-30lbs, with larger fish not uncommon. Blackfin tuna, in the football size range will start to show up as well. Trolling feathers and squid pups between 200-400ft will be your best bet to catch some fresh sushi! The bottom bite should also produce great table fare. During the month, mutton snapper, yellowtail snapper and trigger fish will be the best species to target on the reefs and bottom structures. Live bait or dead sardines will be the bait of choice. Keep in mind, NE winds bring the bait and pelagics closer to shore. Bait will gather at the mouths of inlets and areas with a fast moving current. Recent strong winds have kept many onshore but those venturing out have found abundant sailfish, kingfish, some mahi and the occasional wahoo. I’ve caught my share of snook and jack crevalle inshore fishing the last couple weeks. Be safe during the holidays anglers and until next time, keep on catchin’! Please be sure to check out my YouTube Channel “Darcizzle Offshore” for new fishing videos uploaded every week!

DRIFTFISHING Black grouper and cobia caught onboard Living on Island Time drift fishing boat
by Sandra Schulz Contributing Writer
Recent trips have been productive on the drift. We have had some nice keeper grouper consisting of reds and blacks up to 18 lbs. many just short of legal size, but that’s okay, we know they are out there and will grow for another day. We’ve had some nice cobia and mahi-mahi on our boats and a few kingfish. Depending on the condition at times, the daily snapper bite has been consistent with yellowtails, some mutton snapper and a few nice mangroves. We are drifting a Spanish sardine with a double or triple trailer rig with about a one and a half oz. weight, depending on the current. Some of our clients like to use a 3/0 to up to 6/0 circle hook instead of the trailer rig which works just fine too. If the client would prefer, we also can set them up with a double hook bottom rig. This is usually with a 6-8-ounce bank sinker with two separate hooks on the leader with small pieces of squid. This takes some work on the angler’s end for you to drop to the bottom and usually is hit quickly, then reel up, re-bait and drop in again. Typically, those fish are the smaller bottom fish like triggerfish, vermilion snappers, porgies and sometimes even yellow tail snapper. December’s catch will depend on the weather conditions of course. Happy Holidays to all and be back in the New Year! FISHINGFORECASTS SOUTH COUNTY SAND TO STREAM By Bill Buckley
December’s cooler water temperatures bring a lot of angling opportunities to our area. Ample baitfish are available in and near the inlets and beaches, including ballyhoo and balao when chumming over shallow reefs. Shore-bound anglers can target Spanish mackerel, bluefish, and jack crevelle by casting shiny spoons and Got-Cha lures from jetties, beaches, and piers. Sheepshead can be caught on live shrimp along seawalls and inshore structures. Snook can be caught at the inlets, bridges, and spillways using live baits, Flair Hawk-style jigs, and D.O.A. shrimp lures. (Note: Snook season Greatly improve sailfish survival by NOT closes December 15th.) Boaters lifting them out of the water for a photo. can target Spanish mackerel and bluefish in shallow waters too, but also have access to spinner sharks, bonito, wahoo, kingfish, football blackfin tunas, sailfish, and even the occasional blue or white marlin offshore. The seas are typically rougher in the winter, often too dangerous for small boats. But, you still need to get out on the water after a hard day’s work, right? Try shrimping! It’s a lot of fun, and the catch can be eaten or used as live bait. Just about every inshore fish loves live shrimp. The best conditions for shrimping in the inlets are when the water temperature drops below 82°F, the winds are blowing strong from the east or southeast, and the tide is hard incoming at night for a couple days before and after a new or full moon (Dec. 17 and Jan. 1, respectively). Sweep the beam of a hand-held spotlight to illuminate the beady little reflective eyes of shrimp as they drift by in the current. Use a wide, long-handled dip net with small mesh to scoop them up. Boaters have the advantage of positioning where the current is flowing best, but seawall anglers can catch good numbers of shrimp as well. The daily bag limit for shrimp (heads on) in our area is 5 gallons per angler (shore-bound), or 5 gallons per vessel regardless of the number of anglers aboard. On your way back to the dock, toss a live shrimp near the fender lights at bridges or near docks with underwater lights for your chance at a nice snook to finish the night. For anglers with larger boats that can safely handle rough seas on windy days, winter is the best time to target sailfish. By far, the best technique is kite fishing with live goggle-eyes, which does require a moderate investment in tackle, accessories, and bait. For the more budgetrestricted anglers: Catch blue runners in the morning by slow trolling in the shallows near inlets and patch reefs with large Sabikis. Attach a bucktail jig at the end instead of a lead weight. Drift in 80-275ft of water with a combination of surface and mid-water live baits. A small balloon may be needed to keep your shallow baits near the surface. Wire leaders are not recommended for targeting sailfish, but if your baits are getting cut off, incorporate a short length of wire between the leader and hook to catch kingfish or wahoo that are stealing your hooks. Sailfish typically put up a great fight, but can become victim of their own exhaustion. After a long fight, be sure to drag the sailfish slowly forward for several minutes to help it revive. Avoid damaging their internal organs by leaving them in the water. Although usually released, FWC rules do allow for an HMS-permitted angler to keep one sailfish per day over 63 inches, measured from the tip lower jaw to the fork of the tail. FISHINGFORECASTS Capt. Craig
JUPITER INLET INSHORE By Craig Korczynski
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to all fellow anglers. December offers anglers a variety of species to target. The cool fronts push south to our region bringing cooler water temperatures and northeast winds. Inshore anglers have a plethora of species to target like snook, tarpon, pompano, mackerel and many others. Every fish has a migration pattern and specific areas they like to migrate to, due to structure, food and warmth. Understanding and learning is the key to a successful angler. The snook season closes Christian December 15th, but that with his first should not stop anglers from snook. targeting them. Snook fanatics can find stellar action near deep channels, docks, and sea walls. Live baits and DOA shrimp and DOA C.A.L. 3-inch shad in glow gold rush belly presented in a natural manor entice strikes. Back bays and canals are great areas to locate snook and it is not uncommon in my area to boat 20 to 40 snook per outing. Every species of snook can be targeted in Jupiter; live shrimp and a small hook and you are hooked up. Tarpon begin to rise and show anglers who is the king; bays and flats team with tarpon this time of year. Live baits drifted with the tide is the best technique to hook a tarpon, but artificial enthusiasts can also get in on the
action. DOA 3-inch shrimp in glow and crank baits entice strikes, the trick is to find the pattern the fish want and it’s on. The size of tarpon ranges from 5 to 50 Sue with a big snook pounds. from Palm Beach. Grass flats offer anglers a wide variety of species to target, especially the highly sought-after pompano. Pompano roam the grass flats in search of food; jigs tipped with shrimp or a sand flea works great. Jigs have really produced great numbers as well. When you get near a grass flat slowly idle along the flat and look for skipping fish in you prop wash. Once you see this, stop and fish the area. Jacks, drum, trout, bluefish and lady fish all roam the grass flats as well. Look for pot holes in the grass and try and work areas where bait is prevalent. Manatees are a great sign fish are in the area. Typical depths to target are from 2 to 8 feet deep. Live shrimp under a popping cork and down periscope you ? are hooked up. Great fishing for the kids and whole family. Well that is the fishing report for the Palm Beach, Jupiter area. I hope you all enjoyed so get out there and get hooked up. Tight Lines! Capt. Hello Anglers, I have not been doing much fishing because of school. I missed the SKA Nationals in Biloxi, Mississippi because I wanted to concentrate on school. I heard that it was very rough. Our team that went caught a lot of big kingfish, however, none over 35 pounds. They finished 20th place in the National Championship out of 100 other teams. For the 2017 Season in the SKA our Team finished 6th Place and 1st Place Junior for division 10. I was able to go to the Fort Lauderdale boat show. I saw our new boat for the first time with the wrap on. It looked very good. The boat was on display in the Jupiter Booth. The live well in the new Jupiter is more like a Jacuzzi! I think I could fit in it! The show was cool also, because of the huge yachts and every type of boat you could think of. We also visited the Garmin booth. They had a 360-degree camera where you can see everything. We can’t wait to use that for our next season of fishing. They also had a kayak on display, by far the most hi-tech one I’ve ever seen, that had all the Garmin electronics on it. We have started making rigs for the Key West tournament in January. Until then, I will be bass fishing in the Christopher at the Garmin display neighborhood. at the Ft. Lauderdale boat show Tight Lines! COASTALANGLERMAG.COM • THEANGLERMAG.COM

Well here we go again, that time of the year is back. The holidays. Some love them others hate’m, but they only come once a year, so the majority of the folks I know look forward to them. Everyone always asks what should I get, or what do you think they would want? Out comes the crystal ball we all carry, give it a couple of shakes and say get this!!! At the end though it doesn’t matter what you get its all about the thought that went into it, right? Hell no! We want something we can use. Here’s some of Santa’s go to favorites. A new knife is always a winner. That new box under the tree with a new gun in it is always a favorite. They have too many guns you say; then a strong runner up is ammo. No ammo you can’t shoot, that’s always a solid choice. Optics. Scopes, new binoculars, a range finder, or range spotting scope always works as well. Range bags or gun cases are also a great choice. At the end of the day listen to the guy or gal behind the counter, if they have been doing this as long as we have been doing it they generally know what they are talking about and you will not go wrong with what they suggest. I like the ammo one; it’s a sure winner. From the guys here at Delray Shooting Center have a safe and happy holiday season! KAYAKFISHING
FISHINGFORECAST PALM BEACH INSHORE & OFFSHORE By Capt. Weston Russell
Welcome to the fishing forecast for Palm Beach, Singer Island and Juno Beach, Florida. Finally, the weather has changed and with that being said... Pelagics will be making their way down the coast to feed on our sweet goggle eyes. The sail migration will be on top, but it’s the big dolphin that peak my interest. Monster dollies will be pairing up with sails for better hunting ability. So, if you hook a sail keep your eye out for is partners. Good luck! For anglers looking for the fish of a life time, the mighty swordfish will still be around, but we are at the end of the fall run. Picking a calm day will be the hard part. The fingers numbers off Juno have produced some nice fish last month. When swording, don’t be afraid to move around and check out different spots. You must put your time in to get a good one, or you can just be lucky... Drop deep! Something for the inshore angler... expect good fishing on the cold front days. The inlet will be the place to be. Jacks, Spanish mack’s and permit will be on the You can’t catch list. Live shrimp or a finger mullet lure them from the will be your best bet. Look for marks on couch! your bottom machine before casting out. Better to search and find them, then to just blindly fish. Tight lines! by Brian Nelli, Contributing Writer INSHORE: December will start to bring a few cold fronts our way. During the winter months, when water temps drop, targeting areas that warm quickly like docks, mangroves, mud flats and potholes will be the best bet. Getting out a little later in the day to allow those areas to Cleve with warm will help you put more fish in the kayak. a Clown Sheepshead are a favorite of mine to target Knifefish during this time. These fish are easy to catch on just pieces of dead or live shrimp around docks, bridges and channels while kayak fishing Delray Beach. OFFSHORE: Kayak fishing during the winter months are heavily weather dependent. With our usual heavy winds out of the Northeast try to find a day with a little less wind to catch your favorite pelagic species. Sailfish, mahi, kings and wahoo should be your targets. Frisky google eyes and blue runners will be your best options. While offshore kayak fishing Delray Beach, trolling the 90-200ft depths will give you the best shot at a bite. Finally, don’t neglect the nearshore bite for Spanish mackerel, bluefish and others. These fish can be a lot of fun on light tackle when maybe the other big pelagics are not cooperating. FRESHWATER: Depending on how cold it gets the peacock bass, largemouth bass and clown knifefish bite should continue to be great. Live shiners and or shad are your best bets. All 3 of these fish will be looking for deeper water when the water temps get colder. Find the right depth and you will find the fish. STAND UP PADDLEBOARD: Holiday Gifts for Paddleboarders by Chris Anders Contributing Writer The Holidays are here and I have some gift ideas for the paddle boarding enthusiast. Let’s start with the stocking stuffers. Everyone needs a leash. Make sure that the leash matches the color of their board and also it should be a coil leash. Long leashes drag in the water and are a pain. Leashes run around $25-$40 depending on the brand. Some other items that are a little bit more in price are Fins, Hydration Pack, Restube PFD. Check out FCS & Future Fins. They have a large variety to choose from. The Dakine Waterman Hydration is one of the most popular hydration packs on the market and run around $60. If you have someone that likes long tour paddles then I would suggest a soft cooler by Seattle Sports, either the 25 Qt. or 19 Qt. which run between $40 -$50 and they come with suction cups. I know everyone thinks Yeti but most of the time you only need a cooler for the day not a week and their cost is around $250. Every casual paddler likes to have some tunes while out cruising on their board so why not get them a Blue Tooth Water Proof Speaker. Check out ECOXGEAR Speakers. They have a wide variety to choose from and I have used them for many years now and have never had a problem with them, and I paddle in salt water. The speakers run between $60 - $130. Moving up in price, you should look at a good carbon fiber paddle. If you have multiple people sharing one paddle make sure you get an adjustable paddle, so that one paddle fits all. However, if you are buying a paddle for one person and no one else will be using it, I would prefer non-adjustable and have it cut to their size. There are a lot of paddles out there and Werner provides a wide variety and widely used in the
racing scene. I also like Sawyer paddles. They have been around since 1967 and they have signature wooden finish on the paddle and the T-grip which really looks amazing. Look to spend between $250 - $400 for a good paddle. It’s worth it. Finally the most expensive gift for a paddle boarder, the board. This is something that is a personal choice and something that the person riding should pick out themselves. So for this just put about $1,200 $2,900 in an envelope and take them board shopping. Happy Holidays and be safe on the water. Chris Anders, CEgO www.ThePalmBeachBoatClub.com • 561-840-1901

Manatees by Melissa Johnson, Pura Vida Divers, Contributing Writer As the leaves turn gold and red and Fall’s frosty fingers weave their way across the North, a different scene indicates the imminent arrival of colder weather throughout Florida. Along coastal waterways and up inland rivers, clear blue waters ripple bright green seagrasses as herds of manatees move overhead, making their way to Florida’s freshwater springs. Manatees’ rotund, wrinkley grey bodies and languid movement through the water give the impression of a blubbery animal, but that is not the case. Much of a mantees’ mass is made up of their stomach and intestines. Although these “sea cows” may spend up to half of their day foraging and munching, their bodies are quite lean and unsuited for the chilly waters that worm their way into Florida estuaries as the weather cools. Over the course of a day, a manatee may eat up to 10% of its own body weight in seagrasses, algae and water plants. This is perhaps a surprising quantity of food, as the average manatee weighs between 800 – 1,500 pounds. Even with a continuous supply of nutrition, however, manatees have little body fat and a low metabolic rate, which means that their bodies can’t offset the loss of heat when water cools below 68 degrees. The crystal clear freshwater of Florida’s springs stay around 72 degrees year round. When air temperatures drop low enough that Floridians begin to consider wearing shoes instead of sandals, manatees begin their large congregations inland. During winter, water in the springs is comparatively warm, and the inflow of hundreds of bodies log-jamming the waterways helps keep groups of manatees warm en masse. Manatees are unique creatures in many more ways than their seasonal migration pattern, which often takes them North instead of South. Their closest living relative is the elephant, a likeness which can be seen particularly in the stubby toenails that dot their front flippers. Manatees are one of the rare marine creatures that can tolerate saltwater, brackish water, and freshwater. Unlike humans, who are born with only 2 sets of teeth, these marine mammals will replace their teeth throughout their lives. Manatees breathe oxygen, and can stay submerged for up to 15 minutes before surfacing for air. When they are swimming, manatees breathe more rapidly, and must surface every 3 – 4 minutes. They usually swim at a sluggish pace of around 5 miles per hour, but can swim in short bursts up to 15 miles per hour. In the aquatic world, manatees are still some of the slowest moving animals, and particularly at risk for human-caused injury from collisions with boats and scarring from propellers. Luckily, manatees are a federally protected species. It is illegal to harass, hunt or kill manatees, which includes touching or feeding them. Swimming amongst throngs of manatees is an experience unlike any other, and Florida is one of few places in the world where congregations of manatees occur in such large numbers. Every winter, Pura Vida Divers leads an expedition of local snorkelers and SCUBA divers to observe this natural phenomenon firsthand. The trip is open to swimmers of all ages and experience levels, and includes snorkeling sessions, afternoon SCUBA dives, and exploration of some of Florida’s beautiful nature preserves. DECEMBER 2017
O By Capt. Mark Shepard Contributing Writer
You may be wondering when Lake Okeechobee bass fishing turns back on again and the answer is NOW. Your December Lake Okeechobee Forecast will provide you with details about how Lake Okeechobee is fishing and what it will be like in the upcoming month. Capt. Mark Shepard has daily and up-to-date information on the condition of the Big O. Two main factors come into play in this forecast: temperature changes and water levels. Capt. Mark couldn’t be more excited for the season that has just begun. New adventures and waters are opening up for exploration and discovery. Water levels are extremely high and will take some time before they return back to normal. Levels are at 19.10 feet above sea level. Do not let this discourage you about finding fish. High water levels aren’t a bad thing when it comes to Lake Okeechobee. Levels in this range are allowing the largemouth bass to push back into areas they haven’t seen before. They are pushing deep in the grass where you will have to search them out but are locatable. Schooling bass are starting to roam into the shallow waters. Captain Mark has been seeing big numbers on his fishing trips. This is a small indication that the process of spawning has begun. The males are beginning to pave the way for females to roam in. We all wait for this moment on Lake Okeechobee. Changes in temperatures also have helped this movement begin. Florida recently experienced a cold front that rolled over the whole state. The Florida-wide cold front that rolled through You would expect in late October, kicked-started the process that this to shut fisheries we have been looking for all year. Fishing has down but it surely turned back on! Photo by Capt. Mark Shepard did not. It kickedstarted the process that we have been looking for all year. It dropped the water temperatures and cooled things off. The largemouth bass have been looking for this as a signal to start moving off the main lake. Waves of fish are continuing to move in which is making for exciting times for our visitors and travelers or anglers alike. The upcoming weeks should not experience any other drastic changes in temperatures. This will allow for a variety of techniques to still be highly productive. As the fish move back in the grass, hollow body or moving frogs can be very effective. You can also throw a Bass Assassin “Die-Dapper” swim bait as well to entice the same style of bite. Cover water with this bait to locate the fish and then slow down the presentation with the hollow body frog. Also, if conditions or the bite gets tough, flip into the thicker grass structures. Outside edges will also produce fish with bright spinner baits and rattle traps. When the temperature changes for a longer period of time, the pattern and techniques will as well but those will be present in our next forecast. Crappies are also beginning to make their way in as the temperature changes which is always a signal that things are about to begin for largemouth bass fishing. Don’t miss out on an excellent season. The new waters will make for exciting fishing adventures that we haven’t seen in many years. Capt. Mark Shepard is looking forward to fishing with you on his boat where you can catch the largemouth bass of your dreams on Lake Okeechobee today with Bass Online!

EXPERT ADVICE
Gifts for Anglers Choosing Sunglasses As A Gift DAVID MANEY, FOWLER’S SUNGLASSES
C
hoosing a pair of sunglasses as a gift for someone else can be a tricky endeavor. On the one hand you have your opinion of what you think they will like and then there’s the issue of the fit and their face shape that can make all the difference in the world in their overall happiness with the pair that you’ve selected. Obviously, the best way to ensure your selection is exactly what they’re looking for is to have them help you. Go to your favorite sunglass seller, and let your friend try numerous pairs on. Then, once you know their favorite, the task is easy and foolproof. But if you’re not able to put that together prior to a purchase, the next best alternative is to make sure the company you’re buying the sunglasses from has an honest, no-loophole return policy. Yes, save your receipt. I also recommend including a small note with the sunglasses saying: I hope these fit, and are what you wanted. The store name here said you can exchange them if you like. At Fowler’s, we make sure our customers have an easy and helpful exchange process. The right pair of sunglasses can be a gift that is appreciated for many, many years, and we make giving the perfect gift a little bit easier. For more information contact David Maney at 888-3409021 or www.FowlersSunglasses.com

PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT XTRATUF LEGACY 2.0 Engineered to withstand the world’s toughest conditions, the Legacy 2.0 is a hardcore fishing boot 50 years in the making. The latest addition to XTRATUF’s iconic legacy collection features an advanced new outsole that surpasses the SRC slip resistance rating, a textured heel for easy on/off that won’t get caught in gill nets, and a contoured topline binding so it does not rub harshly against calves. Acid- and chemical-resistant uppers along with shin and bib guards keep fishermen protected while a Polyurethane insole ensures comfort for long days on deck. All boots within the Legacy collection are 100 percent waterproof with unique performance features. Each boot is made with XTRATUF’s signature triple dipping technique, which creates a seamless barrier that is highly resistant to many organic and inorganic acids, chemicals and contaminants. The latex neoprene is ozone resistant and is softer, lighter and far more pliable than ordinary rubber. Cushioned insoles with arch support help fight fatigue and stress on the legs and back. All XTRATUF Legacy boots come with a non-marking, slip-resistant Chevron outsole that provides unparalleled traction on any surface in the most extreme conditions.
