February may be the shortest month of the year, but it’s jam-packed with celebrations and special events!

ebruary 1 starts off with Chinese New Year celebrations (it’s the Year of the Tiger) followed by February 2, America’s beloved (if goofy) Groundhog Day. Super Bowl Sunday is on February 13 this year, followed by Valentine’s Day on February 14. Don’t forget that it’s Black History Month, that there’s a school vacation week to plan for, and that Mardi Gras will be celebrated on March 1!

FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

Take the kids to see Monster Jam on February 4-6 at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence (dunkindonutscenter.com). Watch the Festival Ballet Providence’s performance of “Goldilocks and the

Three Bears” at the Black Box Theatre February 5-20 (festivalballetprovidence.org). Sharpen your ice skates (or rent them) at indoor skating rinks in Southeastern Massachusetts (fmcicesports.com/rinks), the huge outdoor rink (and bumper cars) in Providence (theprovidencerink.com), or the outdoor skating rink in Newport (gurneysresorts.com). Enjoy free family fun and entertainment on the second Thursday of every month at New Bedford’s AHA Nights (ahanewbedford.org). Treat the little ones to “Trolls Live!” at The VETS in Providence February 19-20 (vmari.com). “Discover Buzzards Bay” offers an online portal with information about more than 100 public places to walk,

Go on a guided Seal Watch boat tour with Save The Bay, departing from Bowen’s Ferry Landing in Newport through April (savebay.org/seals). Get a glimpse of snowy owls and other migratory birds at the Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge in Middletown (fws.gov/ sachuestpoint)!. Buy your tickets online for the indoor planetarium shows on Saturdays and Sundays year-round, and daily during school vacation

CLASSICAL ACTS

Relax and listen to the “English Folk Song Gala: The Music of Grainger, Holst and Vaughn Williams,” performed by the Tri-County Symphonic Band, on February 13 at Old Rochester Regional HS in Mattapoisett (tricountysymphonicband.org). Don’t miss the Fall River Symphony Orchestra’s Winter Concert on February 27 at Bristol Community College’s Jackson Theatre on February 27 (fallriversymphonyorchestra. org). Listen to “Scheherazade!”
