Sew, You Know…, page 4 with Charla Henney Do you have a sewing machine? Do you use it? If you are a little unsure of how to get started, this is the class for you! A series of simple projects will help you become familiar with your machine and gain confidence in using it. Bring your own sewing machine if you have one. Charla will have two sewing machines available to share during class.

Coffee Brewing Essentials, page10 with George Broxton, Broxton’s Coffee Calling all coffee lovers! In this two-hour class, George will endeavor to expand your education in all things coffee. Range of topics will include selecting the best coffee, grinding, brew time and temperature selection. Coffee tasting during class will be highlighting coffee profiles and brewing principles to craft that perfect cup of coffee. Participants of the class will take home a free bag of Broxton's Coffee specialty house blend.

Wonders of Santa Cruz County, Page 16 Take a journey through time and history. You will be part of a private guided tour at the Mission Tumacacori established by Father Kino in 1691. After your morning visit to the mission, you can enjoy a no-host lunch in Nogales. You will be part of an exclusive guided tour of the city’s history and learn about Nogales’ economic impact and future plans for economic development. Check-in to the El Esplendor Resort will be in the afternoon. You may choose to take a dip in the pool, visit with new friends by the outdoor fire place, enjoy the Jacuzzi, play tennis, hike or simply stay in your room for an afternoon siesta. The day will end with a delicious dinner served in the stately dining room at El Esplendor. On day two, you will visit the Titan Missile Museum to learn about the history of nuclear conflict – a history of keeping peace. Registration deadline is Oct. 6.

Printmaking for Greeting Cards with Heather Green Nothing says “I love you” like a handmade card. In this workshop, you can learn how to plan, carve and print multiple images to make greeting cards using a linoleum block. Discussion will include use of positive and negative space, transferring the image, carving techniques, different printing methods and ways to add color to a print. This ancient medium is easy enough for beginners, yet challenging enough for experienced artists. Once learned, printmaking can be enjoyed for a lifetime! Wet and Needle-Felted Holiday Ornaments with Lisa Thompson Add style to your holidays by using wet and needle felting techniques. Identify the differences between sheep’s wool and alpaca fleece ― the “Royal Fiber” in South NEW America. Create a wet-felted ornament of your own design. While your ornament dries, watch a demonstration of the needle-felting technique, and practice this skill on a project of your choice. Raven’s Nest Eco-Tour and Starry Safari with Vincent Pinto Join us for an inspirational eco-tour, delicious organic dinner and amazing starry skies at Raven's Nest Nature Sanctuary by Patagonia Lake. Wildlife biologist, ethno botanist and naturalist Vincent Pinto will guide you around this pristine nature sanctuary that serves as a template of sustainable living practices including rainwater harvesting systems, riparian recovery project, nature trails, organic gardens, native landscaping and much more. After the eco-tour, dinner will be served at NEW the African-style safari tented camp followed by amazing Arizona astronomy. Using high-tech equipment, Vincent will share facts as well as myths associated with our starry constellations. Wear appropriate outdoor clothing, socks and comfortable walking shoes, hat and sunscreen. Bring water and snacks. Camera and binoculars are optional. This field trip will entail a moderate amount of walking along nature trails for approximately 1.5 miles round trip. The Geology of Southeast Arizona with Glenn Minuth Become familiar with the prominent geological features of Eastern Cochise County via a one-day field trip to a world-class volcanic area. Glenn will include geologic map interpretation, flip chart diagrams, handouts, rock samples and guided discussions. This trip includes stops at Texas Canyon, Willcox Playa and the volcanic landscapes of the Chiricahua National Monument. The monument visit includes two stops for discussions in the Visitor’s Center and Massai Point kiosk and a guided hike through the monument’s spectacular Echo Canyon. Difficulty rating – pace is a slow 3.5 miles on the (optional) hike punctuated with numerous rest stops/discussions with a 500 feet elevation gain on a well-maintained trail rated “moderate” by the park service. Bring a sack lunch, beverages and water container. Water will be provided for refilling containers. Trips and Tours Wonders of Santa Cruz County Center for Lifelong Learning Staff Take a journey through time and history. In this fantastic excursion, you will be part of a private guided tour at the Mission Tumacacori established by Father Kino in NEW 1691. Your morning visit to the mission will be followed by a short trip to Nogales where you can enjoy a no-host lunch and an exclusive guided tour of the city’s history. You will also learn about Nogales’ economic impact and future plans for economic development. Later, check-in to the El Esplendor Resort. You may choose to take a dip in the pool, visit with new friends by the outdoor fire place, enjoy the Jacuzzi, play tennis, hike or simply stay in your room for an afternoon siesta. The day will end with a delicious dinner served in the stately dining room at El Esplendor. On day two, you will visit the Titan Missile Museum to learn about the history of nuclear conflict – a history of keeping peace. Registration deadline is Oct. 6. Wellness Yoga with Macaela with Macaela Cashman Reap benefits, reduce stress and experience yoga. As you may know, yoga means “yoke” or union, finding balance, joining together body, mind and spirit. Despite preconceptions, you do not need to be flexible to do yoga. Macaela will show you variations of the poses so you can adjust your practice to meet your needs. This class will be gentle and meditative while toning and strengthening. You’ve heard “no pain, no gain?” Macaela’s mantra is “No pain – no pain is our aim!” You can learn to listen to your body for better health and overall awareness. Bring yoga mat, blocks and belt. The bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments are identified systematically through visual, NEW physical and mental exercises to promote postural and upper body physical fitness. Through the use of physical fitness interval sets, the 43 facial muscles team up as they are identified and addressed to stimulate circulation and increase muscles tone and strength. Sinus, neck and throat function may be improved, as well as some soft tissue enhancement may be achieved. American Heart Association — Heartsaver Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers with Neil Gago Basic life support will cover CPR for adult, infant and child as well as the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in accordance with AHA guidelines. Core material covered will be: adult, child, and infant CPR, ventilations with a barrier device, 1 and 2 rescuer techniques, use of the bag-valve mask, automated external defibrillation (AED), and aid for choking victims.
