Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument, page 11 with Glenn Minuth Celebrate our National Park Service’s birthday with a trip to the Gila Cliff Dwellings and Silver City, New Mexico. Day one includes a tour of Silver City, Fort Bayard and the Santa Rita Open Pit Mine. After a night’s rest, we will take a scenic excursion through the Gila National Forest to the Gila Cliff Dwellings. We will discuss the local geology and what is known about the Mogollon people who built the dwellings.

Owls: Rulers of the Night Skies, page 10 with Jeff Babson Owls have captivated the imagination of mankind for centuries, symbolizing everything from evil and death to wisdom and protection. In this class, we explore the classification, biology and conservation of these remarkable nocturnal birds. We also learn about the identification of owls by sight and sound. This class offers a great opportunity to see and hear these fascinating birds.

Arts Conversational Spanish II with Lori Sizemore Build on information and skills learned in Conversational Spanish I. This class offers additional grammar points NEW such as past and imperfect tense conjugation. Additional vocabulary and more involved conversations will help you create language based on real-life situations. From NEW 1879 – 1881, during the midst of the country's western expansion, the U.S. Army committed a substantial amount of assets attempting to counter the Apache threat. The Apaches employed extremely successful tactics in their raids and ambushes. This class will answer why the Apaches attacked horses and mules first and how they reacted to new technologies of the U.S. Army. Las Cienagas Natural History Field Trip with Vince Pinto Join naturalist and wildlife biologist Vince Pinto in a detailed exploration of one of our region’s most beautiful and diverse natural areas. Las Cienagas protects thouNEW sands of acres of rare habitat and animals, including reintroduced black-tailed prairie dogs and pronghorns. Guided by Pinto, you can learn about the area's birds, native plants, invertebrates and conservation initiatives during a relaxed walk of about two to three miles round-trip. These and many other questions will be explored in this trek into the amazing skies of southeastern Arizona. EthnobNEW otanist and naturalist Vincent Pinto will be your guidebook for how to find, identify, process and cook a broad variety of these wild plants. Learn about unique species – from desert to mountaintops and in between – that provide food, fiber, fire, shelter, tools, medicine, art, basketry material, dyes and an extensive variety of other uses. Law and Order: Galileo's Trial – The Galileo affair was a sequence of events, commencing around 1610, when Galileo Galilei came into opposition with the Catholic Church over his support of Copernican astronomy. Through this lecture, you can examine the entire episode and come to know the impact the trial had on other famous astronomers right up to modern times. CSI: Forensic Astronomy – Grasp the techniques astronomers use to determine the past position of celestial bodies. This information can then be used in forensic science for solving mysteries in legal questions to art history and military battles. Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument with Glenn Minuth Celebrate our National Park Service’s birthday with a trip to the Gila Cliff Dwellings and Silver City, New Mexico. Day one includes a tour of Silver City, Fort Bayard and the Santa NEW Rita Open Pit Mine. After a night’s rest, we will take a scenic excursion through the Gila National Forest to the Gila Cliff Dwellings. We will discuss the local geology and what is known about the Mogollon people who built the dwellings. The Cliff Dweller Canyon Trail is rated an easy half-mile hike along the canyon bottom to a viewpoint of the dwellings. However, to reach the actual dwellings, you must hike 175 feet up a rocky trail (rated moderate by the trip leader). Bring a picnic lunch and snacks for the first and second days. Saturday night dinner is no host in the Silver City area. Registration includes transportation, park fees, instructional guide, and one night lodging with breakfast at Holiday Inn Express.
