OUR MISSION The mission of the Parkinson Foundation of the Heartland is to improve t h e q u a l i t y of life for people w i t h Pa rk i n s o n’s, their caregivers, and families as well as inform the community about Parkinson’s disease and fund research for the cure. We accomplish this through a variety of services such as support groups, exercise and specialty classes and professional and general educational programs. We publish a quarterly newsletter and organize an annual s y m p o s i u m . O u r s t a f f a n d v o l u n t e e r s are available each week day to provide services, answer questions, offer information and make referrals. Call, fax or e-mail us today and request a packet of information about Parkinson’s disease or stop by the office and browse in our lending library of books and tapes. We are here for you! The Parkinson Foundation of the Heartland is a voluntary health service organization active throughout Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma. The foundation is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization.

Phil Kroeker is a 64-year-old retired veteran with Parkinson’s disease. Kroeker was diagnosed in July 2009. On top of seeing a neurologist, Kroeker also chose a physical therapist to assist him after watching a Good Morning America segment on forced exercise. His Theracycle worked so well that he decided to educate the community on the benefits of forced exercise for people with Parkinson’s disease.

Janet Hamburg is a registered Somatic Movement Therapist, a Certified Laban Movement Analyst, a professor of dance and an associate of the Gerontology Center at the University of Kansas. She developed the award-winning exercise program Motivating Moves for People with Parkinson’s. She also presented at the 2010 International Congress on Gait and Mental Function, the 2008 Movement Disorder Society’s International Congress, the first national Roundtable on Exercise in 2007, the 2006 World Parkinson Congress and the 2005 Parkinson’s Action Network Annual Forum.

DR. MUHAMMAD M. NASHATIZADEH, MD Dr. Nashatizadeh is a medical professional specializing in movement disorders including Parkinson’s Disease, tremor, restless leg syndrome, tics, and Tourette syndrome. He obtained a medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine (UKSM) with an internal medicine residency at UKSM in Wichita followed by a neurology residency at UKSM Kansas City, Kansas where he was chief resident. Dr. Nashatizadeh is currently practicing with the Overland Park Medical Specialists, LLC where he also does inpatient and outpatient consultations at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
