PERFECT DAY ITINERARY - WASHINGTON, D.C.
The capital of the United States of America is a wonder to behold — a concentrated mix of history, power, politics, art, culture and exceptional food, all dispersed among grand historic monuments. Here’s how to spend a perfect day exploring the District of Columbia’s fascinating past and present.
7:30 AM
Awake refreshed from a restful night’s sleep at The Jefferson, an iconic D.C. destination that began as a luxury BeauxArts-style apartment block in 1923. In the hotel’s stately Greenhouse restaurant — under a restored skylight that was hidden for decades after World War II — enjoy a leisurely breakfast of omelets, pastries, cappuccinos and freshly squeezed orange juice.
9:00 AM
After your meal, you’re picked up for an exclusive VIP tour of working U.S. government buildings with a special access guide. Given The Jefferson’s prime location, just north of the White House and Capitol Building, it won’t take long before you’re experiencing the inner workings of the nation’s capital. After the tour, your driver will take you to visit other significant sites including the Washington Memorial, Lincoln Memorial and World War II Memorial.
1:00 PM
Next you’re off to the cobblestoned streets of Georgetown, a neighborhood founded before the American Revolution — and therefore one bursting with stories. Among the historic federalist architecture and mid-1700s estates, you’ll find your way to Chez Billy Sud, a charming bistro that feels as though it’s been plucked directly from the French countryside. Savor classics like steak tartare and moules frites for lunch.
2:30 PM
Explore the exceptionally pretty streets of Georgetown, popping into shops along world-renowned M Street and browsing local boutiques hidden in nearby lanes. The Dumbarton Oaks Gardens beckon, as does Tudor Place, a grand house that was once home to six generations of Martha Washington’s descendants.
5:00 PM
Back at The Jefferson, it’s time to unwind. Relax in your comfortable suite, or settle in with a leather-bound volume in the hotel’s cozy and distinguished Book Room.
7:00 PM
For dinner, head west to the renowned Imperfecto, where you’ll take a seat at the restaurant’s ‘Michelin Star Table’ to experience head chef Enrique Limardo’s tasting menu. The 12+ course, Omakase-style degustación takes diners on a journey from South America to the Mediterranean, while à la carte dishes are also offered — think burrata with tamarind hummus; sweet potato with sumac-seasoned labneh; and white chocolate ice cream with milk chocolate custard, 66% ganache, cacao nibs, lemon gel and sweet plantain.
9:00 PM
Close out the day by exploring D.C. from an entirely new perspective: the water. During a private boat tour along the Potomac River, you’ll take in the illuminated sites of the Kennedy Center, Key Bridge, Roosevelt Island, Arlington House and more.
