Breaking the Street Program: Wellness Center Location: Main street, Buffalo, NY Studio: ARC 301

All public buildings have 4 relationships. People and street, People and building, Building and street, and building and interior. These relationships can be either positive or negative depending on the design. In this project, the street and the building are incorporated in to one envelope. The buildings are laid out based on program and the need for immediate access. The buildings are then related to each other across the street. They are then rotated so that the face of the buildings are perpendicular to each other. This sets up a direct relationship between entrances across the street.

Program: AIAS Design Competition Location: Main street, Buffalo, NY Results: First Place

The design focuses on combining the elegance of the Art Deco era, rustic elements of the southwest vernacular, and the sophistication of contemporary design. This design stays true to the successful aspects of THE STEER to create a new icon for Main street Buffalo. This new design addresses: ADA requirements, the need to separate patron from pedestrian circulation, and the enhancement of the aesthetics of the college bar area. The integration of Art Deco, Western, and contemporary designs on the faรงade are united through specific materials and elements.

The Media Lab is a collection of 6 multi-disciplinary lab units in one building. The architecture itself encourages the mixing of different project ideas and disciplines. Each lab unit is organized with a double hight lab space and a mezzanine level for office space. The lab space has raised floors to run utilities and to create an adaptable space.
