Thrive as a
KOHAWK Academic assistance. Health and wellness. Campus and community involvement. Professional preparation. Coe is your connection.
At Coe, start college with someone by your side. Before you even move in for your first term, you will connect with your very own Success Coach to ensure you're prepared for the beginning of your experience as a Kohawk. They can relate to the challenges and freedoms of moving from high school to college and help you anticipate the different needs and opportunities that come with the move. This person will be your confidant and source of inspiration and knowledge! Your success coach will: • Introduce you to resources on campus and in the Cedar Rapids community that will be invaluable during your time at Coe. • Connect with you to ensure you're aware of important milestones throughout your first year. • Act as the bridge to you and the many people, tools and resources needed to be successful. • Always be ready to answer any questions or provide guidance regarding any Coe-related topic (seriously, no question is too big or too small for our team)!
As a new student, you will not be expected to know everything about Coe or the college transition. The Office of Student Success and Persistence is here to help you adjust to life as a Kohawk.
This isn’t your run-of-the-mill academic support center with a few tutors — it’s an expansive, all-you-could-ask-for version. The Learning Commons in Stewart Memorial Library embodies “Coe makes it possible” by providing support for all academic needs. Within the Learning Commons, you’ll find… • Individual academic support and tutoring for any subject. • One of the largest undergraduate student-run writing centers in the country. • Academic technology assistance for when you need to create visual materials for class. • Speakout consultants who help you prepare and practice for class presentations. • The Office of Off-Campus Study to assist you with exploring options for a term away from campus. • Specialized support for submitting a national fellowship application.
To be your best,
you need to feel your best Achieve balance with an all-encompassing approach to health and wellness. On campus, there are convenient resources to ensure your mind, body and spirit are aligned because we want the whole you ready to thrive and grow.
DIRECT CARE AND TREATMENT
Registered healthcare providers are available for appointments on campus for illnesses and testing. Limited prescriptions and medications are available. These professionals are also available to provide referrals to off-campus providers as needed.
MENTAL HEALTH
Free counseling is always available, with references to a psychiatrist or therapist for long-term or specialized counseling to best meet your needs.
WELLNESS PROGRAMS
Positive sleep habits, simple residence hall exercises, healthy eating in college — all examples of campuswide wellness programs created to help you adopt healthy lifestyle choices.
SPIRITUALITY
Fellowship and reflection are cultivated between the Office of Health and Wellness and Office of Religious and Spiritual Life, which hosts interfaith programs and events.
NATURE
The neighborhoods surrounding campus are complete with lakes, parks, trails and opportunities for service. Fresh air and helping others are both valuable keys to holistic wellness!
FITNESS
Complete access to the Athletics and Recreation Complex (ARC), which includes two floors of fitness and weight equipment, swimming pool, climbing wall, indoor track and courts.
STRESS MANAGEMENT Meditation, healing sound baths, pet therapy, yoga… including goat yoga are examples of the opportunities to unwind.
OUR CONNECTIONS
Become Your Connections
Coe ranks in the top 1% of all private colleges in the nation for connecting students to internships and alumni networks.
Gaining professional experience and starting your professional network while still in college will give you a head start when it’s time to begin your career after graduation. At Coe, there is an entire center devoted to helping you do just that…
