Meet, Sauté, Love Speed dating. It’s a great concept in many ways. Like all the best games, it involves chance, challenge and enough pace to keep things interesting. Plus it’s one of the few situations where you’re guaranteed to meet other singletons. But my main issue with speed dating has always been, that’s it’s all a bit… random. Well that was before Pulled. Pulled is an event that combines speed dating with cookery. Now I love food, and I love people who love food. So all of a sudden, with visions of snatched conversation over frantically chopped onions and sizzling herbs, speed dating started to sound irresistible. And Pulled didn’t disappoint. Twenty of us fresh-faced hopefuls were ushered into the Coexist kitchen by cupids Jo and Bex. The room was decked out with a plentiful supply of gorgeous, fresh produce. We donned our pinnies and got stuck in. The way it works is simple. There are 10 stations, each with ingredients, instructions and tools. You have five minutes to get your head round the task, nail the prep and suss your ‘date’, before moving on to the next station. Wine and beer were on hand to banish nerves, and make the task of changing the electric whisk attachment ever so slightly more challenging. It was enlightening. It was fast-paced. It was fun. By the time the cooking was done, my belly ached from laughing. Because we were working on a task together, the conversation just flowed. And Hamilton House had attracted exactly the kind of creative, friendly, fascinating folk I’d hoped for. After all the mad chopping, mixing and heating, this delicious meal just appeared. As if by magic. And there was still the chance of meeting my match… Pulled – a speed dating cookery class returns on 10 April at 7pm for £25 Review by Danielle copywriter at capocopy.com

Matt Sibley Quartet - Rocking retro 80s-style fusion jazz outfit featuring tenor sax,

guitar, keys & drums.

Free live music - check the website for details. Me & My Friends - Rather stylish chamber-folk tapestries and elusive songs from a quintet featuring Nick Rasle's floaty-voiced vocals with added guitar, clarinet, cello, bass and percussion.

Samsara - This Brighton collective keep their classic reggae grooves sounding fresh. Elements of Afrobeat and European mestizo sit nicely in the mix, bringing a stylish danceability.

Bruce/Ilett 6 - Jonny Bruce's sizzling trumpet and Denny Ilett's swinging guitar has spawned an ace big band and this nifty sextet. Think of all the cool things about a swing orchestra.

Canteen Hip Hop Session - Guest MCs and musicians join the rhythm section of the ultra-funky DeCyphers collective for a monthly exploration of all things hip (and, indeed, hop). Mary Spender - Mary Spender can already notch recording in Nashville (her Faux Americana EP) and appearing at Ronnie Scotts on her career to date. Dubl Handi - Digging the Carolina Chocolate Drops? You'll love this lot, then, fresh from the hillbilly backwoods of … er … Brooklyn. No matter the postcode: this is proper old-time stuff. Brackish - ‘Experimental rock jazz' project with all the makings of an awesome progfest of uninhibited art-rockism in the Old Style. James Morton - One of the best Sax players to come out of the region, James Morton is a fine funkateer, a joyful jazzer and super-soulful when he chooses to be. Wormfood feat. Hot Border Special

- They call it ‘Afro funk soul rock' and there's all that and more in their untiring dance grooves from Lagos to Detroit and back again.

Acousticians - Ace violinist and Balkaneer Fiona Barrow selects a choice ensemble to join her for an unpredictable voyage into the wider realms of improvisation. Canteen Jazz Session

- An open jazz jam session for seasoned players to join the house trio and others in exploring classic jazz & Latin tunes.

Catlow & Hawes - Sheelanagig's demonic fiddle and guitar players turn their backs on the Balkans and heading for old-time country in search of moonshine, bluegrass and vocal harmonies.

Bitch’n’Monk Heidi Heidelberg's remarkable voice & jazz-punk guitar are well matched to Mauricio Velasierra's pedal-processed Colombian flutes; but it's their imagination that rules.

Roselly’s – This British Americana band have toured America's heartland, plucking it's heart strings with their swooning fiddle, dobro steel guitar and convincing country-style vocals. MON – THU LIVE MUSIC FROM 9.30PM

Count Bobo - You'll recognise the members of this 6-piece bunch from other fave outfits and you'll love their choice of vintage ska and rocksteady numbers with harmony vocals and tootin' sax. Ish Kabibble - A splendidly eclectic swing concoction of good time old-school jazz from the 30s and sizzling clarinet-led klezmer from forever. Bo-di-oh-do, anyone? Ewan McLennan - Ewan McLennan slipped quietly onto the UK folk scene, picking up awards thanks to an impeccable guitar style and one of those great storytelling voices.

Slimline Henry - Henry Slim's Americana comes with back porch fingerpicking guitar, a lonesome harmonica howl and takes you straight to a Mississippi crossroads or Kentucky campfire. Professor Nohair & The Wiglifters - The Prof learned his boogie-woogie trade in the mean streets of 70s Sarf London but formed this piano trio in the style of the great New Orleans players. Sefrial - Naming your band from a moody tune by NY art-musician John Zorn is a serious statement of intent, but alto-sax player Sophie Stockham knows exactly what she's doing with this new sextet. GlowRogues - Yet more quality nu-jazz from the thriving Manchester scene, adding jazz band grandeur to hip-hop and funk beats. Be schmoozed by the groove.

Theo Bard

– Bard has a new band in tow - including Björk drummer Tansy Omar - you can only guess he's found the on switch and an even bigger groove.

Kasai Masai - Super-danceable music from deep in the Kasai region of Congo (via London). Jangling guitar, shuffling soukous beats and lush harmony vocals? All present and correct.

Schmoozenbergs - They got the music from gypsy campfires and Paris cafes where the name Django has nothing to do with Tarrantino and everything to do with swinging beats. Canteen Jazz Session - An open jazz jam session for seasoned players to join the house trio and others in exploring classic jazz & Latin tunes. Guy Calhoun - One of Bristol's most accomplished singer-songwriters, Calhoun's rounded voice, crisp acoustic guitar and well-crafted songs show a clear heritage from classic British contemporary predecessors. Kate in the Kettle - Scottish fiddle-singer Kate Young is steeped in her own tradition but also explores a wider range of European folk music in developing her own ideas and vocal range. Cyborgs - Who are the Cyborgs? You can ask but they won't tell, preferring to deliver their ‘dirty blues elektro shit'behind anonymous welding masks. Think louche Doors-ish boogie music.

The Stringbeans -

The Stringbeans classic string quartet gets waylaid by the pop allure of Madonna and Michael Jackson and the classic sounds of he Beach Boys for a epic bowed treat.
