Lara Hawthorne Artist of the month Jungle life, mythical beasts and folkish creatures illustrate the front of the programme this month. In a bright and bold colour palette, Lara’s work is a tropical cornucopia of delights influenced, by travels to West Africa, she writes her own stories that are often influenced by folktales and myths. The surreal, sometimes dark nature of her work is light-hearted in its approach of finding humour in everyday life. You can’t help but notice influences from Henry Rousseau and Hieronymus Bosch. Lara’s first children’s storybook ‘Herberto’, follows the soft existential ponderings of a slug, and has been published in three languages since it’s initial release last year. See some of Lara’s work will be displayed in the Canteen from 1st-31st Aug. larahawthorne.com
Wonderful Woodcuts with Kate Leney This month we’re excited to be exhibiting Kate Leney’s large-scale relief prints. Her work combines Western and traditional techniques and has a focus on natural landscapes, plants and trees. Her hand printed wood cuts will be exhibited in the Gallery from the 12th-18th Aug. While there will also be a relief printing workshop running alongside the exhibition (more below).
