Reception: Thursday, October 6, 5:00 - 9:30 PM Pacific Design Center Blue Building: Lobby & Second Floor 8687 Melrose Avenue, West Hollywood, CA
DESIGNLAB AT PACIFIC DESIGN CENTER FEATURES LEGENDARY WARHOL SHOW CURATED BY MAURICE TUCHMAN designLAb is pleased to announce its fall season with new art and design exhibitions that open with a public reception on Thursday, October 6 from 5:00 - 9:30 PM. Exhibitions will be on view in Pacific Design Center’s Blue Building Lobby and Second Floor. Highlights include a new digital augmentation of Andy Warhol’s legendary Rain Machine (Daisy Waterfall) 1969, curated by Maurice Tuchman, Senior Curator Emeritus, LACMA at Young Projects, on view through mid January. Rain Machine (Daisy Waterfall) was first presented at EXPO 70, Osaka, in the section NEW AMERICAN ART in the United States Pavilion. Artist Refik Anadol replaces the actual rain water used in the original Rain Machine with a fully immersive space filled with digital rain. The result is a one-of-a-kind collaboration, between a leg-end of the 20th century with one of today’s most brilliant wunderkinds of the technological age, to create an artwork of extraordinary presence, vision and timeliness. In addition, designLAb proudly presents the new Espace Franck Bailleul, the French artist’s debut in the US comprising oil paintings depicting skies. His first exhibition in his sky series is entitled From the sky, the earth, a scrap, a passing shape and a spider’s web. The title aptly describes Bailleul’s observation as he captures specific points in time, suspending a soluble moment in an image that both echoes and transcends the multiplicity of pictorial as well as literary representations of the sky. A new site-specific sculpture installation by Los Angeles artist Brad Howe is on view through July 29 in the Blue Lobby. Howe is internationally recognized for his signature colorful, lyrical abstract sculpture however his new work at the PDC reflects a new direction inspired by minimalism’s reductive objective language. During the reception, enjoy happy hour (cash bar) at Red Seven, located on the first floor of the Green Building. Valet, garage, and street parking are available and complimentary parking for press is available by calling the PDC Parking Office one day in advance, Monday – Friday at 310-360-6417.
