Q. What female celebrity do you wish was your sister? I think celebrity is an interesting notion in itself so to decide on a sister I’ve never met would certainly be something I find hard to imagine. I’m going to give an answer that I don’t think many would expect from from me as I don’t listen to a lot of her music but you know, maybe Selena Gomez. I’ve actually only really heard one track of hers properly… Fetish but I quite liked it. I think she’s a person constantly trying to do and be better and she seems to have a humble, down to earth attitude considering she is in the very depths of 21st century celebrity culture. Adele would be fun and Beyoncé could be empowering…That would be an interesting little new-age family right there.

Q.What do you think about the role of women in the music industry? I think it’s an opportunity, challenge and responsibility to be any person in music today. I think every human should be free to express themselves and it’s great that women are so strong and sexy in their work today. Personally, I think maybe for a minute the industry has over sexualised women and I only say that as I think you don’t need to be in a music video wearing nothing to be exuding female confidence or more that I think it’s cool to express sexuality artistically - not to always be the obvious provocateur. That’s just me and I guess the beauty of creativity is I may change my mind on that next week to as it’s a self-discovery of expression that shapes who you are as an artist. I’m down with people being themselves, whatever that is. I just hope women continue to make great things happen and we move more and more towards equality - that we vocalise, embrace and celebrate equality in ourselves and each other. I think it’s brilliant to be at the forefront of

“I hope women continue to make great things happen”

creating art that see race, gender, sexuality and age become obsolete labels of identity. We should define ourselves however we wish not by how others define us.
