The AdjustmentAs the Northern Hemisphere experience the vernal equinox, the equal night, symbolizing the rebirth of nature’s cycle; May we be reminded again of the inspiring beauty of birth, in all of the conceptual adaptations. May we be inspired by the faint color differentiations of cherry blossoms, reset our “clocks” with the thick stench of the flower as it is carried like the notes of a song through the wind singing to chime the bell of our internal tickers. May we be inspired to peal back the shell of cold that encompasses our revitalized winter, allowing for the warmth of the sun and the warmth from within, share in the transformative qualities of the spring rain, may the droplets caress our sweet budding heads, as we wipe from our brow the tepid soil to burst forth in this passage of becoming. May we experience, with the encouragement of our senses, awareness; May we be tantalized by the marching of lady bugs, roused to drink dew from teacups of daffodils, invigorated, initiated in the instant of a sneeze, activated by the love dust of natures gynoecium. In her wake sprout the spirits of jasmine and rose and rue. I remember her the first time I sunk my hands into rich soil, warm from the sun, and moist from her blood; one of those brilliant spectacles that holds in her all that be, and all that is becoming. I remember the first time she described the cycle of life to me, in all her enchantment. Expressing her stories through the art of dance and soft whispers and pattering of rain water against surfaces. She showed me death instead of extensive dialogue, she showed me birth without muttering a word, she is the dance of the interpreter, and that is the spirit she.

She taught me beauty is in all, in the decaying of leaves, in the spring sprouts lined behind the garden gate, in the tropical storm’s soft leering eye, and the roaring fire burning down the forest. She taught me duality is the appreciation that creates our viewpoint of beauty. All that I can vision is through her reflection, a real lesson. It is in her movement, her continuous grace in the reckless midst of you, of me. It is the all that harbors the glistening stones, that equates the pure vibrational qualities of matter, it is you, it is me; that is the lesson of she. There is a constant in our universe is known as The Fibonacci sequence. The Fibonacci sequence takes on many different forms and goes by many different approximations, including the golden ratio, the divine proportion, the golden square, and so on. The Fibonacci sequence looks something like this: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89… continuing forward in a simple pattern, such that every term is the sum of the two numbers that precede it. The ratio of consecutive terms of the Fibonacci sequence converges to a ratio of 1.618, also known as “The Golden Ratio.” This universal constant is visibly apparent in plants which grow their various ornaments, branches, seed heads, leaves, petals, etc., in patterns consistent with the Fibonacci sequence. You will not always find the Fibonacci numbers when inspecting a plant closely, although most of them come very close. In the instance of an ideal flower specimen, each petal is placed at 0.618 per turn out of a 360° circle, which allows for the best possible exposure to sunlight. The golden ratio appears again and again within nature, a literal mathematical expression for aesthetic beauty. Astoundingly our own bodies exhibit the existence of the golden ratio from the outside and within! Although there are many nuances to appearance, the spacing of the individual features on our faces follow the same pattern as the growth of flower petals- that is, all of these things can be directly related to the Fibonacci sequence. For example, the spacing of the joints in our fingers reflect the sensible design, as each section of your index finger (from the tip to the base of the wrist) is larger than the preceding one by about the Fibonacci ratio of 1.618. Even DNA molecules adhere strictly to this pattern! According to an article from The Guardian, doctors are able to determine whether a woman’s uterus appears healthy based on its relative dimensions. When women are at their most fertile (between the ages of 16 and 20) the ratio of length to width of a uterus is 1.6 – a very good approximation to the golden ratio! This thrilling discovery was made by Dr. Jasper Veguts, a gynaecologist at the University Hospital Leuven in Belgium. sustainable living, art and music

Encouraged by the air quality and wishes of the SLAM event organizers, I pulled up to the Jenkstar warehouse on my bicycle while riding along side the SLC Tracks in Sugar House. In the yard of the building are signs of creative process happening in the scraps of materials and unknown creations lying around. However, my first greeting as I approached the entrance to warehouse was from the Solar Saucer, a mobile solar powered DJ booth I recognized from music festivals I’ve attended in California. Upon entering the event space upstairs, I was welcomed a second time with a smile and a silver star on the cheek. The space was filled with beautiful people unique art made of recycled materials and gentle music. A DJ and speakers with powerful potential occupied the stage. After briefly touring the main space I went into separate room to listen to a talk and demonstrate about a handful of sustainable living practices. From his personal experience and equipment, the teacher exposed the most effective options for lighting with solar power using low cost setups and the situations in which solar is most efficient. More efficient options for other situations, like boiling water were shown. An anaerobic compost digester was setup with a system to catch the methane gas released from it into a bike tire inner tube, which could be used to fuel a gas burner to boil your water! We then covered the most effective and practical compost toilet design that he has found after many years of research and experimentation. We then went on to other sustainable living topics like small space food production. After connecting with a friend I haven’t seen in a while and sharing our excitement of future possibilities I walked back into the main space with a feeling of respect and camaraderie for everyone participating in this event and viewed the enchanting permanent and temporary art displays in the room. I sat in the cozy space in front of the stage where a presentation of Tantric theory and practice was offered. We gazed into the eyes of our partner, for the exercise, and shared deep connection. Following this presentation was a relationship counselor on how to be happy being alone. A seemingly odd thing to share before Valentines Day, but the importance of having your own life fulfillment, separate from your significant other in order to enjoy each other long term, was clearly expressed. To end the presentations was Nicole DeVaney, a Chek Practitioner and teacher, sharing her knowledge and experience of taking care of the Self. Her perspective is from the belief that we have the ability to care for ourselves with the help or our four personal doctors, Dr. Quiet, Dr. Movement, Dr. Diet, and Dr. Happiness. Which one have you neglected to consult? Now it is time to let loose, grab a handmade elixir from Bo Dean at the bar, and get down to the finest dance music artists in town. For me it was time to visit Dr. Quiet and go home early. “We would rule the world if the world was a small town school.” I tried to go back to that place for a moment, or at least figure out where it was. I thought of the textures, the sounds, the streaming observations – the interest, before there was a screen waiting inches away to distract me. I thought of the inane conversations, the chaperoned trips, the endless summer exploring days that would end next to friend, depleted of energy, imagining. It was hard see the habits of my days then as anything more than a fog, the majority of other faces and voices as anything other than ghostly static. I’d over explained the terror and the cheek hurting joy until it became synonymous with the past, unable determine the lines between point A and B at all. “Hush,” by Camptonville’s Davia Pratschner pushed me into the grey area of my youth. I saw the sparks in my faded day-to-day of the late nineties, memories rare and compressed becoming fragrant as I listened, intensely vivid, and strangely intimate like a rare smell Her authenticity and character demanded my attention from the first note, as if I stumbled across an old photo album and couldn’t put it down. On “Hush”, the title track, she shoulders the burden of young heartbreak with tortured pragmatism and maturity. Her understanding of release is

almost more painful than the loss itself, the falsetto in the pre-chorus seemingly waving goodbye. It’s these moments of self-reflection that make “Hush” as a whole so strikingly real. She seeks to understand her past which is why it is so easy to find oneself in that same headspace. Whereas some songwriters wallow, Davia pushes onward; her poetry playful, hopeful, honest and occasionally damaged. She has diverse talent as a storyteller, conveying themes with an array of different musical moods in sharp idiosyncratic way. As the first song on “Hush”, “Going Home”, is the perfect stage-setter. In her uniquely gorgeous coo she buckles you up for the road ahead, “Destination beyond words never before seen or heard.” The Instrumentation throughout “Going Home”, like the rest of the album is sparse yet incredibly tasteful, and as a guitarist Davia, doesn’t need to do much at all. Compared to any other instrumentation, the strings sprinkled throughout “Hush” bring depth and tension that just her guitar cannot. “Winter and Spring” is tethered by the shivering melodies the hums of Cello and Violin, creating a psychedelic childhood dreamscape. “Hush” has no resolution. There is only a naïve beauty in moments that should have lasted a little bit longer, and a heartbreaking disappointment that even if you could rewind time, people’s paths are often fixed. Davia is an old soul, in a young body that has elegantly captured a portrait of life that often hides in our mental clutter. Kenny had romantic notions. He thought that he could walk right up to a sad-faced lady and hand her a rock he had been carrying. Oh, It was a special rock alright. It was two-toned and the random design of the lighter color looked like inlaid mother of pearl. He wasn’t trying to pick her up. He merely wanted to walk up, hand her a rock and then walk away with out ever looking back. The deed was as much for himself as it was for the recipient. Just thinking about how good he WOULD feel made him feel good already and he got a dreamy smile on his face. As if rocks were written into his astrological chart for that day, she threw it as far as she could, and he ended up sitting for hours on another, larger one. HE would have thrown this one if only he could. “Bitch!” he muttered to himself, “What do they want, anyway? Their hearts are as cold as my ass is right now.” A chorus of sea lions on the rock below his sang their approval.

“WHAT DO THEY WANT?” he shouted to the sea lions. Agreeable as they were, they did not know either. “It ain’t natural,” he continued. “I am a man—a human being! Why can’t they be human beings?” The sea lions couldn’t have liked that one but that politely remained on their rock, giving him their solid support. After about four hours of cold contemplation the fog rolled in. At first, it passed thinly overhead; lacy, asymmetrical designs with great holes of blue sky in between. The wind

- Chantal Elena was increasing with the density of the fog. Kenny remained there on the rock, stoically presenting a warm buffer between his heart and certain attitudes he could readily recall. He thought he saw the figures of women in the fast-moving patches of fog. But as soon as his eye centered, they had dispersed. The sea lions announced in their raspy way that a heart was now floating by. One of them seemed to literally fall off the rock with laughter. -Tony Hardwick

“I’ve got a starting point, I just need to find it,” Let’s go all the way back to the very beginning, about three billion years ago, I’m kidding; When I was “Syama Antara Utsmaya Μιχαηλ Pandora” “Syama Antara Utsmaya Μιχαηλ Pandora” a kid, I would make mud balls, I was front handcarved Marble and Alabaster back handcarved Marble and Alabaster fascinated with making perfectly spherical mud balls. I would mix different types of soil and mud combining them to make distinct and different balls. I would dig into the different layers of sand and mud in the ground in my backyard, separating the different layers into piles differentiated by their textures, and colors. I was having this conversation with the earth. I would create balls with layers, some rocky, then sandy, then smooth. I would then throw them or drop them, disecting them to see the different layers exposed. My “real” art career started in painting, In school I started out in psychology, philosophy, theater, then jumped into Art, and started to become a painter. I went to the San Francisco Art Institute, It was there that I started connecting spiritually to my art. I would cloister myself on the balcony of the San Francisco art institute studios. I had pulled this desk from the first floor to the second floor balcony. We had to hoist it with ropes, some friends helped me. I stole a heater from the wood shop, grabbed and extension cord and a light. I would just sit there for days, and hours with a light, the heater, and the desk. I would make these little paintings, little fractal paintings. It was there when I started connecting spiritually to my work, having a deep sense of conscious presence with what I was creating and how it was important for me to infuse my work with a conscious intention. It was always there, I kind of always knew I didn’t want to make angry work, I didn’t want to make depressed work. I was always aware that I wanted to give people a certain experience. It was that point that I realized that, this actually has an Impact, when one engages consciously with the work. That was important to me. We have infinity to play with, what kind of infinity do we want to guide our infinite-selves towards? To me a big part of that is what we create in the physical world, what we manifest and what we guide the consciousness’s around us, where we lead them.

“What is placed in the stone?” It’s the stone that stays to tell the story, we look at all of our cultures of humanity, from the oldest to the newest, what we know most about the societies that came before ours and the cultures before ours are what they left in stone, some papyrus, some wood pieces, some ivory, very little metal, you know because all kinds of metal deteriorate. But stones, this world is designed to carry the story in stone, because it’s made of stone, the earth itself, It lasts on this planet. When you make your story in stone you can tell your story for thousands of years. I look at what is being told, and a lot of it is about sex. I wanted to weave that in with what our culture is about now which is consciousness. I really think what that mostly what the new minds, the young generations are striving for is an awakening, an awareness that surround conscious being. What captures the human’s imagination more than anything is sex. For me I view the female when I think of sex, I cut through all the bullshit and went straight for the bloom. I started this series called, “The Bloom Series” which are depictions of the vagina in orgasm, or rather post Bloom. I take a picture and translate the picture into something that can be universal in translation so when you look at it, if you are a prude you aren’t going to see a vagina right away. You might see the Georgia O’Keefe of stone. For me connecting consciousness and orgasm is something I am working on and value as important, consciousness is the universal Orgasm. We are a product of the Universal Orgasm. The oldest known object manipulated by human hands, is a stone hand-axe, which is 2.3 million years old, and housed in a British museum. To tell this story is really important to me, to let everyone engage with. It was those people who survived, the people, our tribe, whom had a curiosity around stone and what we could collaborate with it and engage/create with it that, which enables us to survive. The ones that made that stone axe lived through the Ice Ages, because they had the tools to survive, because they had a curiosity around the consciousness of stone. It’s a genetic component passed down from our ancestors, the curiosity of stone. When I work with stone I can feel it in my genes, pop up like a tingling sensation through my core, a sense of security and knowledge I attribute to stone being a component of our survival.

Thoughts from my head Healing Of The Nation

Medicine. It comes in so many forms. In some instances, medicine comes in orange bottles with white screw tops cleverly designed so that small young hands cannot access the pressed tabs and powder filled capsules. Tiny sugar pellets diluted tens if not hundreds of times homeopathically introducing your body to dis-eases so that it may naturally form a response in defense of one’s compromised system. Fresh and dried botanicals intuitively wild harvested, farmed and prepared utilizing the ‘spirits’ of the plant world seemingly crafted by the Gods and Goddess up above, down below and intertwined into all we see, touch, taste and smell. Drenched in the sounds and vibrations of music some report the therapeutic benefits of using their auditory senses and being soothed by the transmissions of the lyres and muses through time immemorial. Mathematically engineered compositions of musicians through the ages that have scientifically figured out the right proportions of notes to create divine sounds that only the angelic realms could have surmised while removing the

stresses of the daily routines and political workings. Reggae riddims that move you to a place of complete disillusion of life’s hardships that are referred to as ‘murder’ when they space out your head to a place of being ‘hit’ and yet feeling no pain. Driving bass lines and floating treble waves of EDM surrounded by crowds of people lost in the tribal dance of ‘nowness’ moving and grooving up and down the dance floor. Needles systematically placed through different energy points within the body. Varying degrees of pressure moved along our muscles and ‘trigger points’ work to move chi, prana, mana and tensions through and out of the body so that the intelligence of our physical and energetic systems can reset to a state of homeostasis. Allopathic, herbal, touch and vibrational medicines work on so many levels within our systems to create recognizable healing effects in our compromised beings as we trod through the roads of creation. A more micro look into the impacts on our systems from these different treatments reveal more about how they truly treat the issues at hand. Relief does not always mean healing and band-aids don’t always fix the problems. When we look at different forms of medicine we can see that they can be degenerative, sustainable or even regenerative for our bodies. In fact, we can take this same approach with the way that we impact the planet and our natural environments with our farming practices. With so much talk about natural, organic and even sustainable agriculture we can, and should, take a closer look as to what and how these practices might possibly be doing when we consider our impacts as we affect the planet and their respective results and effects on the current conditions as well as how they ripple out for generations to come. For anyone that watches a Big Pharma commercial about the new miracle cure they have synthesized and creatively managed to market to the masses they know what a degenerative medicine


looks like. Families gaily trotting through fields of flowers filled with pollen and yet the participant’s allergies are not impacting the sunny picnic that all have come to enjoy due to the new multi colored pill that allows one to enjoy their time off with the kids while not being inhibited by teary eyes, runny noses or uncontrollable sneezing. However, as this glorious day unfolds we are shown how many potential negative side effects we may incur from this temporary fix to our inconvenient interaction to the natural nuances of Spring time. These ‘side effects’ are the degenerative aspect of synthesized medicine. Sustainable medicines are the types of foods, herbs or treatments we ingest or receive that relieve us from our current state of imbalance without decreasing any other systems within our body. Massaging out a kink in our neck, drinking water to help relieve the effects of dehydration, a cup of Chamomile tea to calm the nerves or doses of Echinacea to trigger the immune system to fight off unwelcomed bacteria and viruses. Sustaining means its not getting any worse than it was when we started treating the problem. It is not until we get into regeneration that we start taking the approach of leaving things better than when we found it. Probiotics, adaptogens and reactors to systems such as the Endo-Cannabinoid system of the body that begin to heal what is ailing and recreating a system of health and well being is what this path of medicine embarks on to create. Once again we can take the same approach to agriculture when we speak to degeneration, sustainability and regenerative farming practices. Let’s take Cannabis cultivation for instance because, well, I like to talk about Cannabis and it seems to be the hottest conversation when speaking about agriculture these days. Today’s practices of Cannabis cultivation span the entire gamut of all of these approaches to production ranging from personal use to large scale commercial cultivation. Synthetic fertilizers laden with heavy salts and components that sterilize the medium in which they are being grown in fall into the category of degenerative practices. When grown in soil continued use of these inputs will render the medium dead and unable to support healthy life with the need for constant flushing and replacement of ‘organic’ matter. Hydroponically grown plants with recirculating reservoirs of heavy salt nutrient products are very difficult to dispose of in environmentally sound ways and more than often are released into public sanitation systems or septic systems and result in water ways laden with high levels of Nitrogen, Phosphorous and the like having severe impacts on the environment. Sterile manures, liquid guanos and mined minerals intended to create a more sustainable approach to cultivation have become the norm for farmers looking to ‘do their part’ and be part of what is considered today as organic agriculture. These

practices though potentially devastating the point of origin of the products are seemingly not degenerating the farm, whether indoors or out, and are looked upon favorably in today’s world of Cannabis production. Once we start looking at regenerative farming practices we start looking at how do we not only grow healthy abundant plants but also increase the soil biology, the quality of the water and in turn create a vibrant thriving environment. When we look at farming microbes we take a whole different approach to agriculture. Instead of actually concentrating our efforts on growing plants we turn our focus to creating a healthy and diverse microbiology and the result is an abundant disease-free plant that is the side effect of this beyond organic method of cultivation. Bio diversity creates resilience to molds, mildews, pests and diseases and affords the cultivator the ability to grow plants that can be truly consumed as medicine whether recreationally or in times of real physical, mental or spiritual need. Medicine for the people, planet and mindset of all humanity.
