Thank You

Today's performance is made possible by contributions from members like you. Thank you to our community of donors who have supported Colburn with gifts. The Community School is proud to recognize the excellence and dedication of its students through

Community School Scholarships

Jumpstart, Herbert Zipper, and Amplify Scholarships, and to provide additional scholarship awards in recognition of merit and financial need.

Central to the Colburn School’s commitment to providing equitable access to excellence, Jumpstart equips students with the knowledge and resources they need to become thriving artists by offering 100% scholarship-supported access to the highest quality music education. Jumpstart students receive instruments and materials at no cost and participate in weekly classes led by distinguished Colburn faculty and Conservatory Teaching Fellows. The Jumpstart program directly addresses the lack of arts education within public schools and serves as a pathway for students to acquire skills linked to both personal and academic success through music.

The Herbert Zipper Scholars program offers highly motivated, deserving students the opportunity to engage in comprehensive music education at Colburn, one of the nation’s premier arts organizations. Herbert Zipper Scholars receive instruction in music theory, private lessons, and ensemble participation, among many other academic and performance opportunities.

In alignment with the expansion of Colburn’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives, the Community School offers Amplify Scholarships for Black and Latinx students. Colburn links recruiting activities and scholarship support and works with local and national partners to reach diverse populations of talented students.

Special appreciation this year goes to the extraordinary scholarship support of Marilyn Ziering; Christine and Sean Yu; Marisa Silver and Ken Kwapis, in memory of Marjorie Kwapis; and Atis A. and Diana Liepins, and Sandra Liepins Busby. Generous endowments in support of scholarships include:

Dance Scholarships

Special appreciation goes to the Colburn Society members whose annual support of dance makes programs like this at the Colburn School possible, as well as the extraordinary scholarship support of Ann Mulally, David Kobrin, and Michael S. Turner.

Millepied Scholarships, named for former NYC Ballet Principal Dancer, Benjamin Millepied, who was instrumental in the formation of the Dance Academy, support tuition and dormitory expenses for young male dancers each year. This scholarship program, made possible in part through generous support from Ann Mulally, enables Colburn to offer a separate boys’ training program, which is vital to impart the different technique and skill requirements for male dancers as well as providing a comprehensive and balanced training environment for Colburn’s female dancers. In addition, need-based scholarships are available to young women in the Dance Academy and to qualifying children in the afterschool Youth Dance programs.

The Beverly, Donald, and David Kobrin Scholarship Fund supports young male dancers of color, who are traditionally underrepresented in classical dance. In addition to tuition, the Fund helps cover room and board, wardrobe, special classes, and other academic and performance opportunities. This scholarship helps exemplify the School’s commitment to access to excellence to all who wish to pursue their dreams here.

Margaret K. Turner Scholarship supports young dancers in their aspiration to pursue professional careers in ballet. Through a nomination and committee process, this scholarship is awarded in the fall of each academic year and seeks to honor the late Margaret K. Turner for her passion of dance and youth education.
