The Community School of Performing Arts is committed to making the highest quality music education available to all. The Music Academy brings exceptional pre-college students from around the world to Colburn, where they take their training to the next level. Young musicians ages 12–18 balance performance, musical instruction, and academics in a comprehensive program that allows them to flourish and develop their artistry.

The Conservatory of Music opened in 2003 with one goal: to train the very highest level of classical instrumental performers for careers in music. Outstanding performance opportunities; unparalleled faculty; and full scholarships covering tuition, room, and board for all students have allowed the Conservatory to produce dynamic young soloists, chamber groups, educators, and orchestra musicians.

The Trudl Zipper Dance Institute is dedicated to developing the talent and ambitions of its students, from beginners in Youth Dance to aspiring professionals in the Dance Academy. Performers of all levels receive sequential training in ballet, modern, tap, and jazz genres in a cohesive curriculum that emphasizes the joy of dance through artistic and technical accomplishment.

Dedicated to emigre, composer, and long-time Los Angeles resident Walter Arlen, this program features premieres of works by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Walter Arlen, who both fled fascism and artistic repression in Europe and made their home in Los Angeles. Special guests will discuss the life-defining challenges European artists faced in the 1930s and 40s and what must be done today to keep their work alive.

Early childhood music programs from ages 7 months–5 years introduce children to the wonders of the performing arts, and private lessons, group classes, and ensemble programs are available from age 5 through to adult, for all levels of experience.
