It is centered around breath, creating “a space where you have room for breathing between materials and composition,” says Bernardo. “We live in a time of overexposure in all kinds of spaces. We’re constantly bombarded with different materials, colors, and trends,” Bernardo explains. “Quiet luxury has the capacity to bring balance and harmony into your life.” Emphasizing tranquility and subtlety over grandeur and excess, Odami focuses on creating serene and sophisticated living spaces through clean lines, open spaces, and a seamless integration of indoor and outdoor environments — transforming the home into a rejuvenating respite from the cacophony of contemporary life. “It’s about finding elegance in refinement and doing a little bit less, but being really thoughtful and intentional about it,” Fohring agrees.
Deer Park House
One of the defining characteristics of quiet luxury is the intentional use of high-quality materials that have personality, in enough moderation to fully experience and appreciate them. Fohring says, “We generally try to find a degree of richness in materials, so they have some depth and character. This balance between simplicity and texture allows the surfaces to come alive in a way that is both subtle and captivating.”
The Odami team found this perfect balance in their renovation of Deer Park House, a historical home in Toronto. Opening up the floor plan of the family areas while respecting the intimacy of the individual rooms on the upper floors, balanced the space with room to breathe and the aspects of a private retreat. New materials were incorporated to enhance the celebration of natural light inherent to the original architecture. “In the living and kitchen area, we used lime paint on the ceiling to interact dynamically with natural light, changing the appearance throughout the day,” Fohring shares.
Deer Park also showcases Odami’s use of natural materials and biophilic design elements — incorporating nature into the built environment — to further enhance the sense of tranquility and connection to the natural world. From the fluted white and gray-veined marble fireplace to honeytoned wood accents, Deer Park incorporates the warmth and timeless elegance of natural materials. “We’ve always tried to break down the barrier between exterior and interior, not just through landscaping, but by using natural materials that bring the outside in,” Bernardo explains. This approach fosters a sense of continuity and harmony, making the interior spaces feel like a natural extension of the outdoors.
Collaboration is Key
Collaborations have become a way to effortlessly execute this growing trend. In London, Mylands has been mastering the art of finely pigmented paints with aspirational color depths since 1884. In their new collection, the company partnered with landscape designer Jinny Blom to create a palette of muted, earthy colors that reflect the subtle beauty of the natural world in both indoor and outdoor paint. Mylands x Jinny Blom helps create environments that feel calm and restorative. “I was struggling to find the colors I needed for outside,” Blom explains. “In the Mediterranean, there are clear color palettes, but they don’t always work for the soft light and watery skies of the British Isles.” Using these high-quality paints, each tone exudes a rich depth of experience, setting a contemplative, relaxing mood in every room and bringing in the gentle light and hushed fogs of the British landscape.

The trend’s emphasis on slow, intentional relationships with objects and materials in the home is perhaps best experienced in Zieta Studio’s collections. This Polish design studio specializes in minimalist furniture, fixtures, and objects crafted from highly polished stainless steel. Yet Zieta’s creations are not just about enjoying sculpturally beautiful and meticulously crafted pieces of furniture or art. It’s about forming a deeper relationship with natural light as it cascades across the surface, creating an ever-changing experience of the material and its reflections. “Due to the surface’s uneven topography, light is refracted and diffused in various directions, generating a dynamic and visually stimulating display of color and texture — this creates captivating and immersive installations that challenge the viewer’s perception of space and dimensionality,” explains Zieta spokesman, Rafat Ciemny.
