The Class of 1964

Future Advanced Cadets: You have s uccessfully completed your first step toward a comm is sion in the U . S . Air For ce through the AF ROT C program. Upon being commis s ioned in the Armed Forces of the United States , a man incurs a lasting obligatio n to cherish and protect his co untry and to develop within himself that capacity and r eserv e s tre ngth which will enable him to serve its arms and t he welfare of his fellow Americans with inc r easing wisdom , diligence, and patriotic convic tion. This is the m ea ning of his commiss ion. It is not modified by any reason of as signment while in the service , nor is the obligation lessened on the day a n officer puts the unifo rm as ide and r eturns to c ivil life. Having been specially c hosen by the Unit ed States to s usta in the dignity a nd integr ity of its sover eign power , an officer is expected so to m a inta in himself, and so to exe rt his influe nce fo r so lo ng as he m a y live.
