COVID 19 UPDATE FOR CNG Starting on March 16th, 2020, CNG shifted to distance learning prioritizing the safety and health of all of our community and adhering to local and national guidelines. The 2020-2021 school year began in early August online mode, and we were able to have 16 weeks of hybrid teaching on and off last year, depending on the number of cases, COVID peaks, and local governmental restrictions. There were no extracurricular activities or athletic games and tournaments until the beginning of this current school year. Virtual community service opportunities were created for the students to comply with their mandatory hours. The 2021-2022 school year began with in-person classes for all K4 -12 students along with a full complement of on-campus activities, sports, and co-curricular opportunities. However, we have all the protocols and systems ready if we need to change to virtual or hybrid at any time. Since the start of the pandemic, all SAT and ACT test dates were canceled in Bogota until last October when they opened with very limited seating, leaving many of our seniors without the possibility of testing, causing a lot of additional stress for them. Please take all this information into account when evaluating our students’ applications. There has been no change to our grading policies or scale, and students have been held to the same rigorous academic standards that are at the core of our mission and vision. AP exams in May 2021 were taken online and many of our students have opted to take the TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition and the Duolingo test in order to comply with the language proficiency requirements.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT SERVICES

COMMUNITY SERVICE

CNG believes in maximizing the individual potential of all students. In High School, students with learning exceptionalities receive different levels of support based upon their needs through our Learning Center or our Gifted-and-Talented programs. Students with exceptional learning needs can have support in the form of an IEP, IAP, or ILP, and through specially designed classes.

CNG empowers students to become citizens of leadership and service through community service and service learning projects aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Our core social action cause is our sister-school, Colegio Fundación Nueva Granada. All students carry out at least 80 hours of service during their HS years. HS students served 13,344 hours during the 2020-2021 school year.

GOA AND VHS ONLINE CLASSES

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

As of last year, high school students have been able to take online classes through Global Online Academy (GOA), a consortium of leading independent schools from around the world reimagining learning to empower students and educators to thrive in a globally networked society learners, as well as from Virtual High School (VHS), a fully online, asynchronous secondary school accredited by Cognia, MSA, and WASC, and offers high quality credit courses.

High School students have numerous opportunities to participate in athletics, visual and performing arts, community service options, student organizations, and academic clubs. Our activities snapshot includes Ambassadors, Model United Nations, Student Council, National Honor Society, Athletics, Drama Productions, CNG Heroes, and Math and Physics Olympiad competitions.

SENIOR RESEARCH PROJECT (SRP)

CLASSROOM WITHOUT WALLS (CWW)

All Seniors take AP Research or Grade 12 English/Research. Both of these courses help students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to independently undertake the SRP with teacher guidance. Through their SRP, students will be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of academic research skills needed in university.

The experience of a lifetime! Students are challenged to take what they are learning (curriculum) and apply it, supported by the United Nations Sustainability Goals, in a real world context. The program is built around CNG’s vision statement, with a community service focus. Students are empowered locally and / or nationally.
