ABOUT THE POOLS FAQ’s - What is the proper way to swim Condition Swim? Condition Swim Etiquette Swimmers arriving at a pool should do three things before getting in the water: 1) Make note of “Fast, Medium, Slow” lane designations. If such signs aren't obvious at your pool, ask a lifeguard. a) An “Unstructured” lane may be available depending on the pool for activities such as water jogging etc. 2) Spend a few minutes observing and roughly timing the per-lap pace of swimmers already in the pool. 3) Select a lane containing swimmers moving as closely as possible to the pace that one realistically expects to swim throughout their entire workout rather than selecting a lane because there are no swimmers in it. a) A swimmer entering an open lane, or joining one person in a lane that's designated differently from their expected pace (i.e. faster swimmer in a “Slow” lane, or slower swimmer in a “Fast” lane), should stay aware of arriving swimmers, and be prepared to move to a more appropriate lane if/when other swimmers join them. 4) Follow the “Swimming Pattern” that is posted (i.e.) split lane or circular pattern a) When entering a lane with one or two swimmers make sure to confirm the pattern with the other swimmers especially when switching from split to circular 5) Respect and work with other swimmers to best enjoy your experience. If there are any issues that arise please enlist the assistance of the pool staff. Respect their decisions.

Happy 90th to the Prince of Wales Hotel If you happen to be in Waterton this summer, raise a glass to the Prince of Wales Hotel during its 90th year. The Prince of Wales opened on July 25, 1927.

The Lethbridge Herald noted the opening of the Prince of Wales meant Waterton would no longer be the playground of southern Albertans but would be an international playground for the world. Certainly the hotel was part of bringing Waterton to the attention of an international audience, particularly Americans.

The hotel was constructed as part of the Great Northern Hotel system. However, the Prince of Wales Hotel was not just about tourism but also about tourism during American prohibition. Having the hotel in Canada allowed wealthy American travellers to come to Alberta and enjoy the opportunity to drink, something they couldn’t do legally back home. The Prince of Wales remains a reminder of the golden age of railway resort development and has been named a Canadian National Historic Site.

Arigatou Gozaimashita (Thank You) ...to everyone that sponsored, donated, participated in and came to our 50th Anniversary celebrations. Many were involved in the success of this event. The visit of Princess Ayako of Takamado from Japan, her Honourable Lieutenant Governor General of Alberta - Lois Mitchell, dignitaries from St. Laurent - our sister city in Quebec, Market Place vendors, Lethbridge Sports Council, Bon Odori dancers, Nikkei Memory Capture Project, those that hosted our visitors, all the local representatives from many organizations... the list goes on. And without the participation of the volunteers and people from southern Alberta, this would not have been a success. Thank you all.

Feeding: fly catches aerial insects and will occasionally eat berries

Call is a quick, loud, chattering kit-kit-kitter-kitter

Rarely walk or hop on the ground—prefers to fly

Latin name is tyrannus tryannus perhaps to indicate the bird’s tyrannical behaviour

It may look like this bird is wearing a business suit,  Will defend its territory by pursuing, pecking, and with the characteristic black above and white below with plucking until the threat is white tipped-tail. This bird means business so take pause gone and enjoy the display. The Eastern Kingbird is common in Lethbridge from May to August.  Named for the red crown that
