Watch for these signs in the future to help you understand where different recreation and sports opportunities fall into the spectrum of physical literacy and the long-term athlete development model!
The first three stages: Active Start (0-6) - fun, part of daily life! Active play in safe and challenging environments is best
FUNdamentals (6-9 boys, 6-8 girls) - skill development is best achieved as a combination of unstructured play in a safe and challenging environment
Learn to Train (9-12 boys, 8-11 girls) -- a period of accelerated learning of coordination and fine motor skills! Time to develop all fundamental movement skills and learn overall sports skills
