WE BELIEVE GOD WORKS THROUGH PRAYER

In this guide, you will learn more about College Church supported ministry partners and become better equipped to pray for them. We believe that God works through prayer, and we invite you to participate in his mighty plan for the world in this way.

The prayer guide is arranged into three sections: 1) Global Workers, 2) Global Partners, and 3) Local Partners. Please join us in asking the Lord for strength, wisdom, endurance, faithfulness and fruitfulness for both the individuals and institutions in this prayer guide.

We invite you to read through this guide in its entirety, as you pray for a ministry partner each day. Also, you might consider receiving the newsletter of a particular individual, personally connecting with them or supporting them. If you would like to get in touch with any of our ministry partners, our staff is more than happy to connect you. Please email missions@college-church.org or call (630) 668-0878. May the Lord bless you as you seek him in prayer.

I PRAY that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. EPHESIANS 1:18-19 (NIV)

JESUS came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. MATTHEW 28:18-20

Paul & Mary Adams

serve with WordPartners in the work of developing a team of global partners who encourage and equip pastors to teach God’s Word with God’s heart. Paul coordinates the effort to communicate what God is doing to transform the lives and ministries of pastors all around the world and occasionally gets to be part of workshops where pastors learn to discover the riches of God’s Word. Pray that Paul would continue to strive for a healthy work-life balance. Pray for the WordPartners team as they seek to be faithful to the Lord in a season with a lot of changes.

Dick & Roslyn Albright

serve with Training Leaders International (TLI). Dick is an international trainer, mentoring and leading teams of other theological trainers, pastors and seminary students. These groups bring theological education and training in biblical interpretation and expository preaching to pastors and church leaders around the world, most of whom lack the means to attend Bible school or seminary.

Pray for wise decision-making as the TLI team looks to restart some pastoral training programs that were paused due to COVID. Pray for healing as Roslyn continues to battle a rare and progressive brain disease.

Tim & Carol Avery work with Pioneers International in Nairobi, Kenya. Tim serves as publishing director for Ekklesia Afrika, a local ministry that exists to supply the African church with sound theological resources. As part of that role, Tim helps African pastors write books to distribute in East Africa and beyond. In addition, Tim teaches part-time in a local seminary. Tim and Carol are part of a local church. They have three young daughters. Pray for the Avery family as they all adjust to a new culture and new country to call home. Pray that the Lord would be exalted in the work Tim and Carol are doing.

Phil & Ann Baur

have been actively involved in ministry for over 35 years. Presently they both serve at the headquarters of Pioneers International/USA in Orlando, Florida. Pioneers’ mission is the relentless pursuit of God’s glory among the unreached through

10

church planting. Together Phil and Ann work alongside the president of Pioneers, assisting with international collaboration gatherings, board meetings, advancement events, crisis manage ment and providing executive support wherever needed. Ann also serves on the board of directors of CAMP-of-the-WOODS in upstate New York.

Pray for wisdom for the Baurs as they model Christ to their children and grandchildren. Pray for Phil and Ann as they each take on more responsibilities within their roles at Pioneers.

Norm & Cathy Beasley

work with Wycliffe Bible Translators in Waxhaw, North Carolina. Norm is the director of global crisis management services. He trains missionaries to assess and avoid risk, planning for contingencies and ensuring that members are cared for during and after a crisis. He is also an investigator on the team that works to protect missionary children. Norm networks with many missions organizations and interacts with multiple government agencies, building relationships to partner with them in the event of a crisis for global missionaries.

Pray for wisdom as Norm resumes travel and seeks to maintain healthy relationships at home. Pray for Cathy as she supports Norm in his role, as well as their adult children.

Nathan & Vera Beck

serve with Greater Europe Mission in Opava, Czech Republic. They are involved in various teaching, training and preaching ministries. Their passion and focus is making disciples, and Nathan regularly coaches missionaries across the continent in the discipleship multiplication process. Together with local Christians, they use Discovery Bible Studies to reach non-believers in their community and around the country. Nathan and Vera are both passionate about equipping missionaries, pastors and lay believers around Europe to be disciples of Jesus.

Pray for Czech believers to grow in discipleship and gain a vision to reach all people with the gospel.

Pray for joy for Nathan and Vera in this season of parenting as they send their first child to college this year.

11

Robbie & Lauren Becker

Robbie is the high school Bible teacher and chaplain. Lauren takes care of their four children at home, seeks to build relationships with their neighbors, leads a young mom’s Bible study and is vice president of the ECA board. A major focus of their ministry is to disciple and send out Colombians as missionaries to the unreached peoples of Colombia and the world.

Pray for wisdom as Robbie and Lauren lead in a variety of ways and seek to spread a passion for missions to the unreached among Colombians. Pray for strategic ideas and partnerships with solid local churches to help send out missionaries. Pray for softened hearts and open eyes for Robbie’s students as he shares the gospel and needs of the world with them.

Matt & Lisa Befus

serve through Christian education in Costa Rica. For the past 24 years, they have developed La Palabra de Vida (LPDV), a Christian school with approximately 300 preschool through high school Costa Rican national students. Lisa and Matt continue to serve LPDV, but have turned over many of those responsibilities and are helping to establish the first Christian school in the area of Jacó on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica.

Pray for LPDV administrators and teachers to lead and mentor well. Pray for the planning and government permits needed for building and opening a new school, and  for safety in weekly travel between LPDV and Jacó. Pray for daughters Natalia, attending online high school and serving in her youth group, and Lynnea and Katrina, both starting jobs in the U.S.

Brian & Warrie Blackburn

Pray that Brian and Warrie would know the leading of the Lord in their work and in this unique season of parenting.

Judy Blumhofer

She serves in medical (pediatrician, attending pediatric patients) and administrative roles within the ministry. She is also a long-term foster parent and works within the broader fostercare community through collaboration with various NGOs to bring medical and trauma-informed care techniques to foster children and families.

Pray for Judy to know how to balance her commitments as well as regularly find times to rest and be rejuvenated. Pray for the families she cares for to come to know Jesus as their one true hope.

Karen Bradley

The Bradleys’ mentorship of local leaders serves as the fuel for coaches to have a Christ-centered impact on more than 750 athletes that participate in daily sports academies.

Pray for the kids who are connected with GO to be drawn to the love of Jesus and come to saving faith in him. Pray for Kyle and Dariana as they serve and bring up their children in the love of the Lord.

Pray for wisdom and strength as they serve in many roles. Pray for times of spiritual rest that would equip them from any attacks from the devil.

Anita Deyneka (Missions Associate) works with Mission Eurasia, serving primarily with A Family for Every Orphan (AFFEO). AFFEO helps to place orphans and vulnerable children in Chris tian families, rather than institutional care, when ever possible, by finding caring homes within their birth countries. AFFEO helps to further alliances between churches and organizations. The church is the center of this ministry; however, for children to receive the best care possible, it is essential to con nect with government, social and judicial workers. She also travels to countries where the movement for a World Without Orphans has spread since it originated in Ukraine.

Pray for wisdom to know how to best support and love the increased number of Ukrainian orphans at this time of war in that nation. Pray that Anita would rejoice in the Lord for the work he has given her to do.

Pray for an increase in the number of patio “walkto” churches in the city. Pray for unity within these fellowships. Pray for more Jesus followers who will make a difference in their culture and in their cities.

Joshua & Kara Dunckel live in Budapest, Hungary. Joshua leads the strategic collaboration team of ReachGlobal’s Europe division. His team works in the “white spaces” of Europe where their organization does not have teams on the ground, but where opportunities exist for them to support and work alongside European ministry leaders. His three main areas of focus are Ukraine refugee response, missions mobilization and building unity between churches and organizations. Their goal is always to see healthy churches multiplying across Europe and beyond. While Joshua serves across Europe, Kara works at home assisting Joshua, teaching and serving their community.

Pray for wisdom and discernment for Joshua as he makes connections between ministry workers. Pray for Kara as she serves their family and community.

Praise God for the faithful prayer partners around the world who daily lift up the Fabers and their team. Pray for wisdom as Bob and Becky navigate their commitments and seek to do each thing well.

WATCH Workers

Some of our missionaries work in places where Christianity is not welcome. Governments, societies and cultures suppress religious freedoms and can sometimes endanger our missionaries and the people with whom they work. We protect these workers by guarding their identities so they can continue their ministry in places that need the light of Christ.

TWO WORKERS serve in the Middle East in an area of over two million people, the majority of which have no access to the gospel. However, there are incredible movements taking place among refugees and displaced persons in the country. During their two years of language learning, it is this group of individuals they hope to serve. They will work closely with local leaders, pastors and volunteers to meet the needs of national and immigrant populations in the country.

Pray for these workers as they sub merge themselves in a new language and culture. Pray for positive team building experiences as they reach out to the lost.

PHILIP is serving in Thailand, a country where approximately 1% of the population knows Jesus as Lord. His vision is to make disciples and to equip communities of faith to join God’s work. Philip is studying the Thai language in Bangkok, Thailand, in preparation for a ministry of teaching and discipleship in Southeast Asia.

Pray for Philip as he desires to serve the church in Thailand. Pray for op portunities for him to serve in Bible teaching and discipleship.

TWO WORKERS are on a team that uses digital tools to distribute God’s Word among a least-reached people group in one of the most inaccessible places in the world. After doing faceto-face ministry overseas for nearly

a decade, they left their host country when the door closed for effective ministry three years ago. Their team formed shortly after they returned to the States. Since that time, the team has been able to share the Scriptures with thousands of individuals who lack access to the Word of God and Christian witness.

Pray that the door to this effective dig ital ministry would remain open. Pray for wisdom as they seek to continue to share the gospel as new restrictions make it riskier.

JOAN (Missions Associate) disciples and shares Christ through the vehicle of English Bible studies and language learning.

Pray that her light will shine brightly to her students and friends who need Jesus.

TWO WORKERS provide regional leadership and support to projects across Asia. This includes support related to staffing as well as placing believing teachers at national schools and coming alongside schools who are supporting ministry families serving in the region. In addition, they resource informal education projects such as language centers and English camps as a way to develop relationships with those who attend.

Praise God for the ways he has grown their ministry. Pray for their family to continue to develop connections in their neighborhood and on their team.

36

TWO WORKERS in Asia are primarily focused on serving the church in its strategies to help people engage with Scripture and Bible stories, often through audio players, and also by coordinating funding for translation projects. Both are building God’s kingdom where they are.

Pray for protection and wisdom as these workers press ahead to support the church in getting believers into God’s Word daily, sharing Scripture with their neighbors and supporting development of new Scripture re sources. Pray for their ability to learn to learn the local language so they can communicate well with their neighbors.

TWO WORKERS come alongside middle-class families in South Asia, bearing witness to Christ through community. They are dedicated to introducing families to Christ, teaching them what it means to follow His path and supporting holistic growth in faith, love, hope and truth. Working together in their maternal/child health community-based business, they support the local and national lactation profession by providing education to a growing number of lactation professionals and support families during this crucial time of life. They are a part of a local fellowship where they mutually participate in the body of Christ.

Praise God for the 10 years of ministering that he has given these global partners. Pray for wisdom for these global partners as they seek to faithfully serve the Lord in each season of ministry.

ONE WORKER is based in the States and supports global workers in the Middle East.

Pray for perseverance and joy as this worker supports an increasing number

of workers. Pray for times of rest and recovery amidst the many international trips this worker takes.

ONE WORKER has been a professor at a university. She interacts with Muslims, Tibetan Buddhists and atheists in an unreached people place that is spiritually and politically oppressive. She builds relationships with students, teachers and neighbors, seeking to be a light for Christ in this dark place.

Pray for doors to open for this worker to return to her country of ministry. Pray for her city that remains in turmoil from the effects of COVID.

ONE WORKER serves in a Middle Eastern country. She is on a team that exists to create a system of ministries to bring life to oppressed migrants and refugees, walking alongside them to help them develop sustainable solutions to holistically better their lives in all aspects. The team willingly steps into the dark places of the city to bring God’s light. They hold one-on-one and group discipleship circles where they study the Bible and talk about how to carry out what they read in daily life. The team also grows, trains and disciples multiple refugee churches.

Praise God for her recent marriage. Pray that the Lord would bless her marriage and that it would be a light in the midst of a place with multitudes of unhealthy, abusive marriages.

The college’s Christian studies faculty serve a Christian minority in Pakistan with a Master’s program that is well-equipped for training in biblical studies. Daniel feels privileged to have students in his continued on next page

courses who are eager to study the Bible carefully while constantly considering its significance for the church. It is his hope and vision that the next generation of Pakistani Bible teachers will teach exegesis and biblical theology with humility, maturity and academic thoroughness. Daniel and his colleagues are seeing more and more gifted Pakistani theologians replace the expats who trained them, and he is excited and grateful to be a part of that story.

Pray for wisdom and productivity as Daniel teaches and writes several textbooks, seeking to optimize his courses. Pray for the students to study well and to use their degrees to go out and make more disciples.

TWO WORKERS are doing church planting with Buddhist peoples in Asia. They live and work among these significant communities while learning the language. They are currently exploring new ministry opportunities with existing churches and engaging with local communities.

Praise God for the doors he opened for these workers to do ministry in this region. Pray that they would be able to connect with neighbors, churches and new friends to share the gospel with.

TWO WORKERS (Missions Associates) work to reach Muslim international students, refugees and immigrants in Canada. They disciple new believers and help them get established in churches and fellowships. They use their skills to open doors to friendship with Muslims. He meets with men for coffee and helps people in practical ways. She practices hospitality and friendliness, does home visits and offers prayer. She also has been blessed with a gift

of writing, which she uses to equip and mentor Christians for Muslim ministry. Together, they praise God for the growing number of Christians who are praying for and befriending Muslims in North America.

Pray for hungry hearts for the Word among the people they are discipling. Pray that the Lord would strengthen them with encouragement as they proclaim the gospel.

ONE WORKER serves in the Middle East, working in language learning consultancy. Her work helps to equip other kingdom workers to share Christ in the local language. She seeks to develop relationships with local women and families in order to introduce them to and deepen their relationships with Jesus

Praise God for the ways this worker has seen the Lord at work through some of her friends this year. Pray for wisdom, grace and love as this worker and her colleagues disciple those in their ministry. Pray that, as a team, they would “put on the whole armor of God, that [they] may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil” (Eph. 6:11).

TWO WORKERS serve in Asia, developing web apps that give opportunities for people to access the gospel in restricted areas. Their mission is to see gospel content customized in apps for further evangelism among the unreached, so that everyone has the chance to hear the good news.

Pray for the Lord to provide ways that these workers can connect with people who have never heard the gospel. Pray that these apps would be used to transform lives.

38

TWO WORKERS are university professors in Africa. They seek to develop relationships with students and point them to Christ.

Pray for patience and wisdom for these two workers as they learn the local language and train with their organization. Pray for good relationships to develop between these workers and their students.

ONE WORKER serves as Christar’s regional member care person for the South and Central Asia region. She will be working in collaboration with regional leadership. As this is a new role, she is in the process of learning the ropes while preparing to support those who work internationally.

Pray for her to grow in her ability to serve missionaries serving in South and Central Asia. Pray for the Lord to restore and renew those to whom she will provide care and counsel.

TWO WORKERS serve in Thailand with their two children. One worker has finished his preliminary training for Bible translation work and is now working toward translating the Bible for an unreached, Bible-less language group, starting with study of the target language. This people group is predominantly Buddhist in name, though spiritism is prevalent. They are resistant to the gospel, but a small church is slowly growing despite persecution.

Pray for the people they are working with to come to know the Lord and be released from the pressures of their beliefs. Pray for wisdom as these workers love and support their young children.

TWO WORKERS serve with OMF in campus ministry with international students. They work in partnership with local churches and campus ministry organizations to reach and disciple international students at area campuses. This involves evangelism, discipleship and preparing those returning to their home countries. The U.S. hosts over a million international students each year. They primarily serve students at the Illinois Institute of Technology (near White Sox park), where 37% of all students are international!

Pray for God to open the eyes of international students and to prepare them to return to their countries with the gospel, that students at IIT would not just attend events, but would come to Bible studies. Pray for them to encourage the spiritual, emotional and intellectual growth of their kids (ranging in age from kindergarten to college).

TWO WORKERS recently transitioned to service in Vienna, Austria. They assist with the development of an international student ministry and work alongside a community development ministry in Bratslava, Slovakia, to provide spiritual leadership to the young believers in the ministry.

Pray for their transition to new ministry in a part of the world where they have served in previous years. Pray for their three daughters as they experience a new culture and language and are united with family members living in Slovakia.

swimming pool and splash pad. Teams come for times away to seek God together and to discover the next steps forward in their ministries. They also provide logistical support for Africa Inland Mission’s local unit. This includes remodeling houses for new workers, setting up solar systems on houses and helping keep vehicles on the road.

Praise God for the completion of the Retreat. Pray for missionaries  to find rest and rejuvenation in their time there.

TWO WORKERS serve worldwide with the leadership team of their organization. They help to make crucial decisions as they care for the missionaries and teams of people serving in the areas of member care, human resources, retirees, onboarding and supporting.

Thank the Lord that meetings have resumed in person and that workers are overcoming the challenges presented by COVID, slowly making their way back overseas. Pray for continued wisdom as they build a larger team on the “home side” to support their cross-cultural workers.

TWO WORKERS serve in Asia, where they have been for ten years. Their primary ministry is pastoral care for their organization’s regional missionaries. They are additionally involved in biblical counseling, encouragement and support within their local community.

Pray for wisdom and grace as these workers encourage the kingdom workers around them. Pray that they would be able to love and support their children even as they are apart.

ONE WORKER is a teacher in Central Asia. She seeks to develop relationships with students in order to introduce them to Jesus and deepen their relationships with him.

Pray for God’s provision and protection for this worker. Pray for the Lord to work in the hearts of this worker’s students.

TWO WORKERS live in Southeast Asia and serve at a Christian school. One teaches, spearheads the English curriculum department at the school and coaches the basketball team. The other coaches the swimming and cross-country teams, maintains the home and occasionally substitute teaches at the school. They both have had opportunities to help several families with work and ministry opportunities.

Pray for God to provide new mission aries in his timing to come to their country. Pray for the time that these workers will spend in the States over the next year to be fruitful and rejuvenating.

DANIEL & JULIE support the work of Bible translation through administration, supporting a team of over 200 Bible translation and language development team members. Their organization’s goal is to make the Word available in every person’s heart language. The team currently has 77 active projects. They have two sons.

Pray for wisdom as Daniel and Julie support and love their sons. Pray for the translated Bibles to be taken to places and people who have never heard the gospel.

40

TWO WORKERS have been living  in a large city in Eurasia where the gospel is not welcome. One of them has been serving as the pastor of an international church.

Praise God for the opportunity he has given them to be part of what he is doing in that city. Pray that the Lord would guide them this year on home assignment and enable them to complete a written project about the transforming power of the gospel in the region where they have served.

Due to the sensitive location in which these missionaries serve, in most cases, names and photos are not disclosed.

WATCH in Practice

We assume that all mail and email correspondence could be read by someone else before it reaches our workers, and “that someone” is probably a government employee concerned about the political and religious stability of their country. For their protection, we refrain from using religious language or references using the names of God.

Receiving emails is just as (if not more) encouraging for these Christians, and we would happily facilitate communication between you and our missionaries serving in these places. We do ask that communication is sent through the missions office so that we can take an extra measure of safety and can have an extra set of eyes on what is passed along.

If you would like for us to email one of our WATCH workers on your behalf, please reach out to our office at missions@collegechurch.org

National Schools

The largest Christian communities today are in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Despite persecution and poverty, the non-Western church is spreading. With this growth comes a significant need for leadership development and theological training. It is estimated that 90% of churches worldwide are led by pastors with no formal training.
