The Messenger SOLID FOUNDATION By Lakan Mariano Fred Rike, a good friend and one of our elders at College Hills, said this one time as he and I were encouraging somebody to stick to the Bible, “If it's true, it's not new; if it's new, it's not true.” There are many misguided people who peddle “new ideas” from the Bible. Something that no one in the last two thousand years of the Church's existence has ever seen. While we certainly can learn new things we did not know before in the Bible, the reliability of the Bible is not in its newness, but in its consistent, unchanging message. The Apostle Paul, writing to Timothy, says, “What you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men” (2 Timothy 2:2). When the Apostle Peter got up and preached Christ to those gathered at Pentecost, he appealed to the scriptures that they already knew. He quoted over and over the Hebrew Bible, our Old Testament. The Apostle Paul did the same when he shared the gospel as his defense after his arrest. The Bible, God's Word, is established truth. It is a foundation that does not shift. It is ancient and it is always fresh. It is the wisdom of the ages and so it is always relevant. It gives us the clear lens through which we can view life—our mortality, our future, our needs, our family, our brokenness, our sins, our struggles. In This Issue
“LORD, If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction” (Psalm 119:92).

The Bible is God speaking to us, and he has not changed his message. Don't fall for some new-fangled shiny trinkets that spiritual shysters peddle. Trust God's enduring Word, the Bible. ~Lakan
