The Messenger IN CHRIST ALONE By Lakan Mariano Most of them did not grasp the enormity of what was happening. Jesus had climbed up the Mount of Beatitudes and began to teach. This was no ordinary day. This was the fulfillment of what Isaiah prophesied:

“All your children shall be taught by YHWH, and great shall be the peace of your children” (Isaiah 54:13). I have been up on this mountain. I am taking a group back to this mountain in two weeks. It is amazing to stand on this mountain and remember that God himself in the flesh, Jesus the Messiah, sat here and taught his people. And on this mountain Jesus reminded the people that as impossible as it was for them to fulfill the laws Moses gave them at another mountain, Mount Sinai, it is even more impossible for them to fulfill the intent of those laws. “You’re familiar with the command to the ancients, ‘Do not murder.’ I’m telling you that anyone who is so much as angry with a brother or sister is guilty of murder” (Matthew 5:21-22, MSG).

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Matthew 5:27-28). No one—no one then, no one today—can be saved by following the law. But Jesus told us how we can be justified, how we can be saved. “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them” (Matthew 5:17). Jesus fulfilled the law we cannot fulfill. Only in him, in his finished work on the cross, can a person be saved. Your inability to fulfill the law condemns you. But your faith in Christ who alone fulfilled the law saves you. This is the Gospel. “It’s news I’m most proud to proclaim, this extraordinary Message of God’s powerful plan to rescue everyone who trusts him (the Gospel), starting with Jews and then right on to everyone else! God’s way of putting people right shows up in the acts of faith, confirming what Scripture has said all along: “The person in right standing be fore God by trusting him really lives” (Romans 1:16-17, MSG). ~Lakan
