The Messenger SPIRITUAL MALPRACTICE By Lakan Mariano
It is medical malpractice if a cardiologist, knowing that his patient's major arteries are clogged, simply tells his patient to take two baby aspirins every morning. A good doctor will be willing to tell his patient that he has to cut his chest open, pull back his ribs and repair the arteries.
It is spiritual malpractice for any evangelical pastor to tell people gathered at a funeral service that everyone is going to heaven. To assert that false statement is to rob people of the truth, of the only way that they can be admitted in heaven. The Bible says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life... Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son” (John 3:16, 18). That same truth applies to the person who died. The greatest deception the devil has peddled and many have bought is that everyone who dies goes to a better place. There are two places a person who dies can go to: one is heaven, the other hell. Entry to heaven is only for those people who have put their whole-hearted trust in Christ to save them. The person who died and did not believe in the saving work of Christ will go to hell. Hell is never a better place.

Speaking the clear gospel truth is the most kind and loving thing an evangelical pastor can say. “But how can they call on him (Christ) to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?” (Romans 10:14).
A pastor does not make people feel better at a funeral service by telling everyone present without knowing if they have trusted Christ or not that they are all going to heaven. That is spiritual malpractice the consequence of which is eternal. The kind and loving pastor is the one who speaks the loving truth of God's love expressed in Jesus' death on the cross. ~Lakan
