NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS IN DESIGN Regents Give Green Light to Two New Graduate Degrees

At its Aug. 3 meeting in Cedar Falls, the Iowa Board of Regents approved two new graduate degrees in the ISU College of Design: the Master of Urban Design (MUD) and the Master of Design (MDes) in Sustainable Environments. These interdisciplinary programs will begin accepting applications this fall for summer 2013 (MUD) and fall 2013 (MDes) admission. [Read more]

Art Professor Helps Mississippi Delta Students ‘Put Community Back in the Blues’ Jennifer Drinkwater, lecturer in integrated studio arts, recently completed a six-week mural camp for middle-schoolers in Clarksdale, Miss. She received a grant from actor Morgan Freeman’s Rock River Foundation, a grant-matching organization that supports education and the arts, to work with local youth on the Clarksdale Revitalization Inc. Mural Project. She and students designed and painted two murals on the sides of the Ground Zero Blues Club, which Freeman co-owns. [Read more]

NOTEWORTHY ALUMS Clark Colby III, Kristen Greteman

Clark Colby III, Associate AIA (BArch 2011 Architecture), pictured, and Kristen Greteman, Associate AIA (BArch 2011 Architecture), have been recognized as participants in the AIA Iowa Citizen Architect Program by the Iowa Chapter of the American Institute of Architects for their service to the central Iowa area. Lynn Crosswaite

Lynn Crosswaite (BS 1971 Applied Art – Advertising Design) is co-founder and creative director of The Pharm Girls, a freelance pharmaceutical advertising company. She previously was the creative and art director at DDB New York.


Diane (Demers) Daiker

Diane (Demers) Daiker, RID, LEED AP, IIDA (BFA 2005 Interior Design), is a 2012-2013 co-director of the International Interior Design Association Great Plains Chapter – Eastern Iowa City Center Committee.

Jon Fahning

Jon Fahning (BLA 1992 Landscape Architecture) has joined Shingobee Real Estate Company LLC, a business unit of Shingobee Builders Inc., Loretto, Minn., as vice president of real estate development and designated broker to help the regionally acclaimed construction and development firm expand its business segments in the Midwest. He had been the founder and president of Diversified Development Services LLC, a Phoenix-based consulting firm focused on solutions-based services within the real estate development leasing design and construction communities.

Matthew Getch

Matthew Edward Getch (BLA 1998 Landscape Architecture), design director of Aecom London, and Mattia Gambardella, architect at Zaha Hadid Architects, were awarded an Honorable Mention for their participation in the Parco Urbano di Piazza d’Armi Competition in L’Aquila, Italy.

Darlene Gluck

Darlene Gluck, LEED AP (MArch 2005 Architecture), recently accepted a position as assistant director of facilities management District 2 leader at Ohio State University. She is responsible for the daily operation of all activities related to maintenance and building services for a large portion of campus, including the medical and veterinary facilities. She supervises zone leaders and other frontline managers overseeing the work of 100-150 personnel and contract services.

Rebecca Greco

Rebecca Greco, AIA (BA 1976 Architecture), managing principal of Minneapolis-based Hammel, Green and Abrahamson (HGA), will receive the 2012 Christian Petersen Design Award from the College of Design Monday, Aug. 20, at the college’s annual welcome reception. [Read more]

Lynnette Ewoldt Jones

Lynnette Ewoldt Jones (BFA 1990 Graphic Design) has created a business to market her illustrations on invitations for birthday parties, weddings, bridal and baby showers.


Paul G. May

Paul G. May, AIA (BA 1983 Architecture), Minneapolis, has been appointed to the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design through Jan. 4, 2016.

Michele Rosenboom

Michele Rosenboom (BFA 2000 Interior Design / MA 2012 Graphic Design) won The Printed Bolt’s Repeat fabric design competition with her Bella Roma collection, inspired by her study abroad experiences with the College of Design Rome Program. She also won the Reader’s Choice Award. Rosenboom will showcase her designs and meet industry representatives at International Quilt Market Houston 2012 in October.

Robyn Vettraino

Robyn Vettraino, LEED AP, Homes, BD+C (BArch 2000 Architecture), Aliso Viejo, Calif., is president of verde@ParkerProperties and a member of the U.S. Green Building Council Orange County Chapter board of directors.

Melanie Vote

Melanie Vote (BFA 1995 Art & Design - Craft Design), Brooklyn, N.Y., was the featured artist on the Artist a Day website on July 29. Her work is part of the “Year One” group exhibition at Hionas Gallery, New York City, through Aug. 11.
