WELCOME FROM
THE CHANCELLOR
My name is Dr. Rhonda Capron, and I consider it a privilege and great pleasure to serve as the Interim Chancellor of Embry-Riddle’s Prescott, Arizona campus. I joined the University in September 2018 after 14 years in higher education. It’s been my honor to engage in campus life including the academic, athletic, and student life programs that make our Embry-Riddle students the envy of the aviation, engineering, intelligence, business, and science sectors. From my experiences in higher education administration, industry, and government, I can relate to the challenges our students face. They, like everyone here at the campus, are committed to excellence, integrity, and good citizenship — foundational values that have never been more important. Your student is the reason I come to work every day. Let me tell you about what some of our students have been up to and will be doing this fall. Sixteen of our College of Security and Intelligence students have spent the past semester working with the Cottonwood Police Department analyzing evidence from Arizona’s
6
biggest and yet unsolved bank robbery to see if they could offer any new theories or insight into the cold case. Our national champion “Golden Eagles Flight Team” continues to be the winningest flight team of the past 20 years with 12 NIFA SAFECON titles. Forty-five of our students were recently initiated into the honor society Phi Kappa Phi Chapter 337, the nation’s oldest and most selective multidisciplinary collegiate honor society. A team of physics students assisted with neutrino detection research at the Los Alamos National Lab in search of dark matter. One of our students has been named a Robertson Safety Institute-International Society of Air Safety Investigators Research Fellow. Our Engineering students are patenting new inventions, and all of our students have the opportunity to get involved in undergraduate research through our dynamic Undergraduate Research Institute. Study Abroad programs are taking students to Iceland, Switzerland, Taiwan, South Africa, and all points in between. Another group of students is constructing our second earthorbiting satellite (Cube Sat) that will be launched in late 2019, on the heels of our first satellite launched out of Vandenberg AFB, California, in fall 2017. Last year we debuted an exciting new master’s degree program in Cyber Security and Intelligence. We look forward to these

graduates taking Embry-Riddle into new industries and companies. We were so very pleased to dedicate the Security and Intelligence building on campus in the name of Glen Doherty, an Embry-Riddle Prescott alumnus who tragically lost his life during the Benghazi Consulate attacks while bravely defending his country. The campus is undergoing many significant enhancements. Last fall our campus opened the new 280-bed Thumb Butte Complex Suites residence hall with spectacular views and great living and collaboration spaces for our incoming first-year students. Our Prescott campus graduated its largest class of students at the 2019 spring commencement ceremony in May with over 400 students, which included 46 receiving military commissions: 36 from Air Force ROTC and 10 from Army ROTC. Additionally, this fall our campus will welcome our largest student attendance at just over 3,000 incredibly gifted young scholars. This past year our athletic programs entered their seventh year in the California Pacific (Cal Pac) athletic conference, which placed our Embry-Riddle scholar athletes in front of a new and greater west coast audience. To date, they have earned 28 outright Cal Pac championships, which are proudly displayed in our Activity Center. This past year has come with titles in men’s and women’s cross country, women’s soccer, women’s volleyball, women’s golf, and a Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship for wrestling. For the first time ever, all of our teams have competed in their respective conference championships, an incredible achievement from the talented athletes and coaches who continue to make us so proud. No wonder the Eagles earned our fifth Cal Pac Commissioners Cup this year! All this while maintaining an amazing record of academic achievement with our teams earning “Scholar Athlete Team” recognition by the NAIA.
largest and highest quality single group of commercial pilots in the world. They make our skies safer every day. Graduates of our Global Security and Aviation Business programs are taking seats at the Treasury Department, State Department, CIA, FBI, and in the boardrooms of aviation businesses around the country. As I shook our graduates’ hands in May, I was so impressed by the variety, quality, and quantity of jobs and careers ahead of them. Please take a moment to join the Embry-Riddle Parent & Family Association. It is a wonderful organization that connects parents with administrators, faculty, staff, and other parents. I highly recommend it. Since its inception a little over seven years ago, it has grown to over 2,400 members. You are now part of the Embry-Riddle family, and we take our responsibility in supporting your student’s success seriously. Please do not hesitate to call or email me with any questions, suggestions, or concerns. Also, please communicate with our Deans and Department Chairs. They can especially assist you with academic issues. The best part of Embry-Riddle is the close relationship between students, faculty, and parents that starts at the top. I look forward to getting to know you better and meeting you at our Parent & Family Weekend this fall. Warm regards, Dr. Rhonda Capron Interim Chancellor CAPRONR@erau.edu (928) 777-3800
We are so proud of our alumni. Over 4,000 Embry-Riddle grads work proudly for the Boeing Company and are the first choice for so many of the major aviation/aerospace manufacturers. Embry-Riddle pilots are the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Prescott

WELCOME FROM
THE PARENT & FAMILY PROGRAMS OFFICE
At Embry-Riddle, we understand and appreciate the vital role that parents play in the lives of our students. Whether you are the family of a new traditional student, returning student, veteran, or transfer student, our faculty and staff are here to assist and support you and your student’s goals. We work diligently to provide the support you seek to assist your student in completing their academic degree, and developing professionally and socially. This process takes a team effort from the staff, faculty, students, and you. This guide introduces you to campus student organizations and services that are available to you and your student. We’ve provided information about the offices that can best

answer your questions and support your needs. It is each student’s responsibility to know their rights and responsibilities as members of the Embry-Riddle Prescott community, as well as the basic Standards of Conduct. Students are encouraged to review these documents online at prescott.erau.edu. These guidelines are in place to provide a safe and supportive campus for all of our students to pursue their educational goals. In addition, our Student Handbook is available online for all students and includes information regarding student rights and responsibilities. We are confident that the programs and educational opportunities in which your student participates during this academic year will provide valuable experiences. We also hope these lifelong learning experiences will encourage them to continue their involvement well into their professional lives as alumni of Embry-Riddle. Please encourage your student to take advantage of the many student organizations and professional opportunities available on campus. These co-curricular opportunities, including professional, academic, community service, and recreational

activities, will enhance your student’s college experience. Through association with students of similar interests, lifelong friendships are developed and relationships that support future employment opportunities are forged. Encourage your student to not underestimate the power of networking opportunities with other students — who will soon be colleagues in their professional careers. These activities will aid in their personal, physical, spiritual, social, emotional, and career growth. Through campus involvement, students are more apt to stay in school — retention is higher for involved students — and improve their chances of finding an exciting position they seek in industry. Finally, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) dictates that the University consider students as adults and, as such, all educational records relating to their progress (academic, social, and financial) cannot be shared without their approval. Instructions on how your student can approve access for you to review any confidential information and allow University staff and faculty to discuss specific concerns is contained within this guide. (This information is also shared with your student during Orientation.) On behalf of all of us at Embry-Riddle Prescott, welcome! We look forward to being involved in this wonderful new chapter in your student’s life! Sally Jackson Parent & Family Liaison Sally.Jackson@erau.edu (928) 777-3879
PARENT & FAMILY WEEKEND October 18–20, 2019 You are invited to join us for the annual Prescott Campus Parent & Family Weekend, an event for the families and loved ones of our students. The weekend features updates by the Chancellor and presentations by the College Deans and is an opportunity for you to interact with staff and faculty who support your student. Of course, you will also have time to spend with your student, and perhaps take them (and their friends) to dinner in town. ACADEMIC ADVISING AND SUPPORT Academic Advising at EmbryRiddle empowers students to plan, develop, and achieve their personal educational, career, and life goals. Faculty, staff, academic and career advisors, and student mentors provide one-on-one interaction to help promote student success. Each student is assigned a faculty advisor in their field of study. Each college also has an academic advisor who works primarily with incoming students and also provides additional support for faculty advisors and current Embry-Riddle students. Students are encouraged to communicate with their faculty advisors frequently. Free peer tutoring is also available for all students.
Disability Support Services (DSS) Disability Support Services (DSS) assigns reasonable accommodations to qualifying students with documented disabilities for
equal access. Students and parents should be aware that colleges and universities provide this service under different laws than those that govern services in the K–12 system. For example, while this may be a parent’s last chance to convey important information to the University, it is the student’s first chance to self-advocate, as is expected at this level. There is no IEP, and the University makes its own determination of what accommodations are assigned based on the documentation of disability and their interview with the student. Academic programs that are FAA-certified are subject to regulations that may delay or preclude participation or licensure in those programs by persons with certain disabilities. Students should consult the DSS website regarding the application process and requirements. Contact DSS several months prior to arriving on campus and allow six weeks for the process. To apply: email Kellerm3@erau.edu or call (928) 777-6750 or (928) 777-6749 for more information.

STUDENT ACTIVITIES AND CAMPUS LIFE

Student Engagement
Student Clubs and Organizations
Truly the hub of student involvement, the Department of Student Engagement develops and implements programs that contribute to a meaningful co-curricular experience. Programs include Board of Campus Activities Events, Music, Orientation, Volunteering, OctoberWest, and the Leadership Engagement and Development Retreat (LEAD). This department offers comprehensive support to all registered campus clubs and organizations including fraternity and sorority life.
The Prescott Campus recognizes over 150 student clubs and organizations. These include academic, service, club sport, cultural, fraternity and sorority life, military-affiliated, and professional organizations. Involvement in these groups hones important life skills that can be applied in the career field, provides fun and creative outlets for students, and offers outstanding networking opportunities — enriching student’s personal and professional lives. Students have the opportunity to learn about our organizations at the Fall and Spring Student Activity Fairs.
www.collegiateparent.com/embry-riddle-aeronautical-university-prescott
Competitive Spirit In addition to our athletic programs, our students compete for various titles and recognitions nationally. Among them, Phi Beta Lambda, the business club, has consistently swept top honors in the statewide competition. The Golden Eagles Flight Team is ranked among the top teams in the country in the Safety and Flight Evaluation Conference (SAFECON) competitions and has captured the national championship title 12 times. Female flight students also have a special opportunity to represent the campus in the Annual Women’s Air Race, a transcontinental race for women that dates back to 1929. Other clubs that participate in various competitions include rugby, e-sports, bowling, spikeball, lacrosse, volleyball, and fencing.
Student Government Association (SGA) The Student Government Association Student Council is elected each Spring for the
subsequent year by the student body. SGA provides a communication link between the students and the administration. SGA council members lead a student panel during New Student Orientation and participate in almost every committee on campus. The president of the SGA is a student delegate to EmbryRiddle’s Board of Trustees. The SGA serves as the voice of the students and provides many enhancements to student life through its service organizations: Student Campus Enhancement Fund (SCEF), Board of Campus Activities (BCA), and Horizons Newspaper. Additionally, SGA provides services for students including, but not limited to, free beverage service, Safe Ride (a free taxi ride to students who feel they are in an unsafe situation), lockers, and a Free Snack Friday. There is also a weekly shuttle on Wednesday evenings that visits local shopping centers. For questions, comments, or concerns, email prsga@erau.edu or call (928) 777-3959 or (928) 777-3784.

WOMEN’S AND DIVERSITY CENTER
Located in the Hunt Student Union, the purpose of the Prescott Campus Women’s and Diversity Center is to act as both a resource and an advocate for diversity, including groups underrepresented on the Embry-Riddle campus (women, people of color, LGBTQ, diverse socioeconomic groups, etc.). 24
Our goal is to assist in the improvement of the diversity climate on campus for students, staff, and faculty by promoting mutual respect for the celebration of differences. The Center accomplishes this through educational programs, recommendations to various University departments, and development of long-term initiatives focused on increasing campus diversity. The Women’s and Diversity Center is supported by the Diversity Advisory Board, composed of student, faculty, and staff representatives from the Embry-Riddle Prescott Campus. The Board advises the director and campus on policy and program issues, contributes to various programming efforts, and provides direct financial support to diversity-focused efforts on campus.

Q
Are cars allowed on campus? Yes, students may choose to bring one licensed and insured car or truck to campus (your student may also register one motorcycle if they choose to keep one on campus). Your student will be required to register the vehicle online at embryriddle.t2hosted.com/cmn/auth_ext.aspx to obtain an annual parking permit. The cost of the permit will be charged to the student’s account. Your student needs to do this the day they bring their car to campus; there is no “grace period.” Non-motorized bicycles and skateboards are popular choices for getting around campus. For the safety of all, anyone using bikes or boards on campus walkways or roadways is expected to exercise courtesy, good sense, and due caution, especially when traversing the inner campus. Helmets and lights are recommended. Lights are required if riding in the City of Prescott after dark. Bicycle registration is required; the permit is free.
What if I want information concerning my student’s records (grade reports, judicial actions) released? FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) prevents any higher educational institution from releasing information without prior authorization from the student. Students who want information from their records released to parents or any other designee must log on to their ERNIE account, navigate to Campus Solutions, and set up Auxiliary Access for these individuals. Further information can be obtained from the Office of the Registrar in Building 12. Students may give access to their student account to someone by following these steps: • Log into ERNIE. On the ERNIE homepage, click into the CS Student Center. • Scroll down the homepage to the Personal Information Section.

Are there other exceptions to FERPA guidelines that allow for release of information without the student’s approval? In accordance with this statute, Embry-Riddle reserves the right to disclose to parents and legal guardians of students under the age of 21, without the student’s consent, information regarding the student’s violation of any federal, state, or local laws or any rule or policy of the institution governing the use or possession of alcohol or a prescription or non-prescription drug. In addition, if a student is hospitalized/treated with a serious or life-threatening accident or illness, the University is permitted to contact the legal guardian (or emergency contact) without the student’s expressed permission.
