International Programs and Education Abroad

Students at The University of Akron have a wide variety of education abroad program options in almost any academic field and geographic location, including exchanges, faculty-led programs, internships, servicelearning programs, and programs through affiliated partners.

Program durations vary from a few weeks to a full academic year. Scholarship and grant information is available. Planning ahead helps students determine the best fit academically, personally, and financially. Studies have found that education abroad contributes to improved academic performance upon returning to the home campus, higher graduation rates, and increased knowledge and appreciation of diverse cultural practices. In addition, it helps rather than hinders academic performance for at-risk students. Studies also show that students who participate in education abroad have a high rate of employment within 12 months of graduation.
