Second Year Experience

The Center for Academic Success and Achievement (CASA) is responsible for the Second Year Experience (SYEJ) Program which is designed to engage all first-year students returning to Morgan State for their second year in out-of-classroom (experiential) learning opportunities to enhance their career readiness skills.

By engaging in experiential learning opportunities such as internships, job shadowing, campus-to-career field trips, and study abroad, students are able to acquire the soft skills employers desire. Soft skills include communication, selfmotivation, leadership, responsibility, teamwork, problem-solving, negotiation and conflict, and time management. All second year students are assigned an SYE Coach to assist with matching students with the most appropriate experiential learning opportunities. Student participation is documented through the completion of an Experiential Learning Plan (ELP) developed by the student with the support of their SYE Coach. For more information about the SYE Program, please visit morgan.edu/sye.
