Ian Weaver’s artistic practice is interdisciplinary in nature and he uses a variety of media including drawing, collage, assemblage, sculpture, photography, and film to explore memory and consider how individuals and communities construct their own identities. While his research and approach is centered within a personal and familial investigation of Chicago’s African American community, his work speaks to wider ideas of commemoration and the imagining and fashioning of objects used to create archives.
