When most entertainment-driven businesses, like arcades or movie theatres, were forced to shut their doors at the pandemic’s genesis, both the businesses themselves and the shopping centers and plazas they often anchor felt the impact. Cineplex, a Canadian move theatre chain, reported a $178.4 million loss in the first quarter of 2020 alone. Even when shopping centers were able to welcome back customers, the doors of these theatres remained closed, leading to an ongoing loss of any spillover foot traffic.
