Visitor Center Eco-Resort Nature Center Computational Design

From the beginning, the intent for this design was to create a space that honors the somber events of the Moore tornadoes that occurred less than 2.5 miles from the project site. A visitor center that uses water and simple materials to promote a sense of comfort and tranquility situated in an otherwise chaotic location. Completed as an entry for the AIA ACSA COTE Top Ten for Students Competition, the design also needed to address the COTE Ten Measures as they pertain to environmental and resilient design.

Located in the eclectic town of Medicine Park, OK, at the base of the popular Mount Scott, an eco-resort was designed to be a living piece of the hillside that emphasizes and educates the public about the importance of a healthy relationship between the built environment and nature.

The Oklahoma River north bank is a part of Southern OKC that is a popular place for possible urban expansion projects. This nature center is located on a popular biking and walking path close to the riverside. It houses ofďŹ ce and conference space, an educational center, 2nd oor dining area, as well as a nature walk that cuts into a small portion of the river itself.

This section model emphasizes the relationship between the building, the hillside, and the river. It also showcases the overall theme of flipping the orthodox building style of “man-made” on top of “nature,” to “nature” on top of “man-made;” thus creating a new type of “man-made nature.”

Done as a part of the Visions for the West River Bank for the city of Tulsa, OK, this bridge design was an exploration into the capabilities of computational design using Rhino and Grasshopper. The overall structure and cafe area for the bridge were a process of experimentation among group members.
Computational Design - Zinc Dam Bridge Project worked on with Lorena McDow, Westin Dinnes, William Danna, Yiwei Lin, and Sierra Brandon
