Fact!
Scientists measure the temperature of several places around the world throughout the year, every year, to work out the average temperature of Earth’s surface for that year.
But, around 10,000 years ago, volcanic activity slowed, causing Earth’s temperature to stabilise. It’s hardly changed since! This has allowed all living things, including humans, to thrive. In the last 50 years, however, temperatures have crept upward. This is global warming. In 2015, Earth’s “average temperature” was the hottest it’s been in 11,000 years!
