Assess Fluency in Reading

Reception/P1 to Year 6/P7

Assess pupils’ speed, accuracy, expression and understanding (their reading fluency) with 60 ready-to-use assessment sheets mapped against age-related expectations.

● Identify gaps in your pupils’ reading attainment so they can be addressed

● Measure and record pupil progress in fluency

How does the assessment work?

• A child reads from a levelled text

• Record the number of Words read Per Minute (WPM)

• Errors are recorded and subtracted from the total number of words read to give the Words Correct Per Minute (WCPM)

• WCPM are divided by the WPM and multiplied by 100, to give an accuracy percentage
