1 Jess ’s expedition
Dear Reader,
I’m glad you are here, because I’m about to embark on a very important science expedition. Did you know that many species of bears are at risk of going extinct? Their habitats are being destroyed by humans and some are hunted by poachers.
The most endangered species of all are the wild bears found deep in the heart of the Enchanted Forest. There have only been a few sightings of them recorded in history! But I, Jessy Locks, plan to find them and figure out how we can best protect them.
So, whatever you think you know about Enchanted Forest bears – forget it. I’m about to uncover the truth about what these rare bears are really like.

6:05 a.m.
It’s me, Jessy Locks, recording my first-ever science log. I’ve got everything I need. The sun is just starting to rise. Time to track some bears!
6:06 a.m.
Well, actually, I need to comb my hair first. I reckon my curls are harder to tame than a wild horse.
Note to self: One day, track a wild horse to confirm theory.

6:15 a.m.
OK, now I’m ready to track some bears and test my navigating skills. I’ll need my compass and, of course, the one-and-only map of the Enchanted Forest. This map wasn’t easy to come by, I can assure you (but that’s a story for another day).
