Local Access Parking Permits
LOCAL AREA
TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT AND PARKING PLANS Birmingham city centre will become a central hub for spectators travelling to venues across the region for the entire Games period, including the venues located within the city centre itself; Smithfield and Arena Birmingham. As a result, it will be busier than normal, particularly at public transport hubs such as Birmingham New Street station. Allow extra time for your journey if you are travelling by public transport.
WHAT IS IT?
Event day temporary traffic management and parking restrictions to protect residents, and businesses and to support the venue operations during the games period.
IMPACT ON YOU
Traffic management and parking restrictions will be in place. Areas will be very busy, particularly at the start and end of event sessions.
WHERE IS IT?
The local area traffic management and parking plans will be introduced at
all competition and non-competition venues. Over the next two pages you will see maps demonstrating the local area traffic management and parking plans that will be implemented during the period of the Commonwealth Games.
PERMITS
Any vehicle looking to pass through a vehicle permit checkpoint to access a business will need a permit. Permits will be issued by Birmingham City Council and will need to be applied for using an online portal, which will launch shortly.
DELIVERIES
Any delivery driver or service provider trying to pass a vehicle permit checkpoint will need to provide: – proof of manifest/ order – confirmation to the address they are travelling to – their personal company ID
DELIVERY DRIVERS WILL NOT NEED A PERMIT
Properties and/or businesses within a Commonwealth Games ‘event zone’ where traffic management and parking controls will be in place are being contacted to apply now for Local Access Parking Permit (LAPPs). These temporary restrictions are to protect residents and businesses and support the operation of venues during the Games. All residents and businesses within an event zone will need to apply for LAPPs which allow both access and parking and should be displayed in vehicle windscreens. The permits will make it easier to pass through marshal check points during the Games.
HOW TO APPLY
Online: The easiest and quickest way to apply is online, by visiting www. birmingham.gov.uk/ cwglapp In person: Members of the ‘Get Set for the Games’ team can assist you to apply at the community drop-in sessions in the run up to the Games. A list of where the Get Set sessions are, can be found at: https://www. birmingham2022.com/ getset/sessions By phone (reserved for those who require assistance): If you do not have access to a computer or the internet, you can phone the contact centre who will help you apply, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, on 0121 303 7616. Please note the contact centre deal with hundreds of calls every day so should only be used by those who absolutely need assistance. If you are able to apply online, this is the quickest way to do so. Once your application has been received, please allow up to 10 working days for processing by Birmingham City Council and the permit(s) will be sent to your property in the post. These are free of charge.

VICTORIA SQUARE
FREE bunting available for businesses
FESTIVAL SITE To bring people together to celebrate the Commonwealth Games, Victoria Square will play host to a free Festival Site providing entertainment for local people and visitors to the city during what will be the biggest event ever to be staged in the West Midlands. As well as a daily schedule which includes sunrise stretch sessions, a disco with Perry the Birmingham 2022 mascot, and a showcase of up and coming local talent, the Victoria Square Festival Site will host some very special events. These include watch parties for the Birmingham 2022 Opening Ceremony on 28 July and the Closing Ceremony on 8 August, and a special celebration, including music and cultural acts, to mark the 60th anniversary of Jamaican Independence. The District’s leisure and hospitality businesses will be on hand at a new popup catering facility; The Floozie Food and Drink, providing a range of tasty breakfast, lunch and dinner treats daily from 8am to 10pm. From lunchtime, the square will
also be licensed for people to enjoy drinks from the bar, including a menu from The Florence, Purecraft Bar & Kitchen, Loki Wines, Primitivo and Miss Macaroon. Purecraft will be serving morning kombucha and coffee before switching to a selection of lagers and ales. Hookways will provide healthy breakfasts and salads, and Waylands Yard some of its fresh deli bakes, cakes and pastries. At lunchtime you can pick up vegan cakes and muffins, plus ciabatta and focaccia from 200 Degrees. Asha’s and Zen Metro will be serving up delicious dishes including biryani, spicy chicken noodles and veggie stir fry to enjoy whilst listening to the Fountain Stage Music programme. The Florence will be serving kebab wraps and Shawarmas with selections of salads, pickles, and sauces. Vegan options include crispy tofu meaning Games visitors will be spoilt for choice. Look out for the full daily programme on the Colmore BID website
If you’d like to give your business an extra splash of colour and get into the spirit of the Commonwealth Games, Colmore BID has secured a supply of bunting and window vinyls which we are offering to businesses at no cost. If you are interested in decorating your business, please contact info@colmorebid.co.uk. Supplies are limited so décor will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

APPLYING THE BRAND The following assets have been designed to support the hospitality and retail sectors in the rollout of the Celebrate and Welcome 2022 Badge: – Logos – Web banners (Leaderboard, MPU) Only one permitted Games asset should be used per application so that it is never overexposed or dominating a platform. For example, the logo and MPU should not both be used on the same page. One visual of the Celebrate 2022 or Welcome 2022 badge is enough to show your visitors that you are welcoming the Games.
