Took It To Social!

DESPITE THE MANY shutdowns and uncertainty that defined 2020, the pandemic sparked a great revival in golf. The National Golf Foundation cited an increase of 61 million more rounds being played in 2020 by U.S. golfers. During this time, the percentage increase in beginners and youth golfers also recorded its biggest gain since 1997 (the year Tiger Woods won the Masters). With this growth in golfers, came a growth in golf apps. And since almost everything is going digital these days, it comes as no surprise that even one of the world’s oldest sports would follow suit. These are two of the myriad apps that have spiked in downloads over the past year as golfers searched for valuable course insights.

GOLFSHOT According to Apptopia, Golfshot more than doubled its downloads this past April. This app offers an award-winning augmented-reality feature that allows golfers to get a 360-degree view of the entire course by using their iPhone camera.* New this month: Using Golfshot on your Apple Watch, you can review each shot you’ve taken after every round.* Golfshot offers three different plans: a standard free edition, Golfshot Pro ($50 per year), or the Golfshot Pro + Golfplan Combo ($70). The Golfplan Combo plan also includes instruction videos from Revolution Golf. *Currently available only for devices running versions of iOS 11 or later.

SWINGU SwingU reported a subscription revenue of more than 85 percent in the first four months of this year compared to the beginning of 2020. This app offers a GPS for every course, scorecards and stats, wind speed and elevation, shot tracking, in-round betting games, virtual lessons and an overall analysis of your golf game. With an increase in new golfers and the opportunity to have a virtual caddie, it’s no wonder so many people got this app during the pandemic. SwingU is free to download, but accessing advanced digital scorecards and stats will cost a golfer $100 annually.
