PARKING
Free parking is available in the Fine Arts Center parking lot at 30 W. Dale St., across from the main entrance to the FAC. To access the studio classrooms, enter the FAC through the main doors and follow the turquoise signs for Bemis School of Art.
If there is no parking available in the lot, there is street parking available at the base of the hill and around Monument Valley Park and Mesa Road. Please be aware that parking along Cache La Poudre Street requires a city permit Monday through Friday, 7 a.m.–5 p.m., but is available to visitors on weekdays after 5 p.m. and on weekends. Metered parking is available along Dale Street.
Lot W7 (north side of the Bemis building) is now paid permit parking only. Vehicles without appropriate permits are subject to being ticketed.

PROGRAMS
In-person courses, semiprivate courses, and workshops are offered in a variety of mediums at the Bemis School of Art. The semiprivate offerings allow for a limited number of students to receive personalized instruction.
Military Artistic Healing classes are offered in-person and virtually for greater access for veterans, active-duty military personnel, and their spouses.
Offsite and travel classes are offered in partnership and collaboration with other organizations. Students attending offsite and travel classes or workshops must follow the COVID-19 guidelines provided by the host businesses.
SUPPLIES
Supplies will be provided for youth classes unless otherwise noted. Students enrolled in adult classes must provide their own supplies. Each course’s supply list may be found on the corresponding course webpage at artschool.csfineartscenter.org/ classes. There may be instructors who opt to provide specialty supplies for an additional materials fee payable to them on the first day of class. This option will be noted in the corresponding course description. In case you are unable to attend class, consider purchasing supplies that are returnable.

Course tuition covers only a portion of our costs, and we depend on your generous support to underwrite the remaining expenses. Please read all registration procedures and related policies carefully. You may register online or by phone. Full payment is due upon enrollment. Checks, cash, and all major credit cards are accepted.
Registration should be made as soon as possible. Class sizes are limited and spaces are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

CLASS LEVELS
Level A — All levels welcome.
Level 0 — This class is for the true beginner with no prior experience in the medium.
Level I — This class is for those with some familiarity with the medium. This could include informal use of the medium outside of the classroom.
Level II — This class is for those who have taken at least one class in the medium. Students should be comfortable with the basics of how to use and manipulate the medium.
Level III —This class is for those who have significant experience in the medium –2-3 or more classes or a year or more of experience.
Registration implies the responsible party understands the course levels above and has selected a course that matches their skill level. Students who are identified as being enrolled in a class above their actual level will be encouraged to move into a class that better fits their level of skills.
Clay and Nature

Using nature as inspiration, we will use clay to make our own nature-stamped plates, cactus vases, rock rattles, and more! We will learn how to use basic handbuilding skills to construct our projects and wrap everything up with various glazing and mixed-media techniques for the perfect result! Supplies will be provided.

Painting BIG

This class is for artistic kids who crave MORE. Over this course, we will paint two large-scale paintings in acrylic on a subject of their choosing. Learn how to use acrylic paint properly, how to plan a composition, pick references, understand value, and make smart color choices, as well as techniques for painting BIG! This class is focused on fun with sneaky lessons about art principles woven in (like veggies in mac and cheese). Supplies will be provided.

Mini Masters

Have you heard of Picasso, Matisse, O’Keeffe, or Van Gogh?
These are the master artists we will learn about in this class! Create a self-portrait styled after Pablo, cut paper and collage like Henri, paint magnified blossoms like Georgia, and create a starry night painting courtesy of Vincent. Mixed media and a bit of art history come together in this class for a playful approach to making art. Supplies will be provided.

Portrait Painting for Kids

Does your kid love to get messy? Or do they struggle to let loose? Are they a little artist who wants to try something new? In this class, students will learn how to paint portraits, use watercolor, enjoy the process, get messy with purpose, understand colors and values, and more! Fundamentals of Painting

This course is designed to build confidence in colorful selfexpression through exploration and the study and application of painting fundamentals! Water Marbling Workshop

Learn how to transfer paint onto fibers! During this course, students will learn three different traditional techniques in water marbling. Throughout this process, people will learn how to let go of artistic control and find beauty in the creative process. Students will create three unique works of art and take them home that day. Beginning Wheel Throwing

Whether just starting out, practicing recently learned skills, or looking for a way to polish some dusty skills, this class covers and reinforces everything necessary to be comfortable while throwing pots. Pinhole Photography
Instructor: Richard Rinker
Imagine using a camera that you build yourself from everyday materials to take pictures from a unique view of the world. We will spend one Saturday learning about pinhole photography and making the cameras. On the following Saturday, we will venture outside with our cameras and then return to the darkroom to develop and print our photographs. You will discover that making a pinhole camera is fun and can yield some interesting surprises! Supplies will be provided.

Curiosities in Clay

Beginning Wheel Throwing

In this introductory class, we will be learning and practicing the basics of ceramic wheel throwing. We will learn the tools required, how to be comfortable while throwing, and a set of techniques that are essential for all stages of the throwing process. Also, we will fire pieces to learn about the wonderful world of glaze and different glazing techniques. This class is meant to be a low-stakes, comfortable space to learn and practice throwing at your own pace and hopefully walk away with some cute pieces of your own just in time for the holidays! Ceramic Sea Creatures

Teen Wheel Throwing Plus

Watercolor Portrait Painting

Abstracting from Nature

Create A Sketchbook — From TRASH!

Do you have piles of trash in your room? Turn them into a sketchbook! Bring your old paper bags, junk mail, wrapping paper, and other random items, and make them into a usable sketchbook in this two-day course! Spooky Gourds
Instructor: Beth Meyerson Sterkel
In this fun course, families will design two spooky gourds! Using acrylic paint, we will paint a ghost and a pumpkin onto these onto these dried gourds which harden like wood. They can be used for decoration indoors or outside. There is a material fee of $10 per pair due to the instructor on the first day of class. This class is for students ages 9 and up with a participating adult.

Día de Muertos Sugar Skulls

Sugar Skulls are and have been an important part of Mexican culture and are often used as decorations on graves and altars during Dia de Muertos or Day of the Dead. Ronee Smith will share the history and meaning behind Día de Muertos and will lead the group in making and decorating sugar skulls to take home. Get creative and expand your understanding of a rich piece of Mexican culture! Supplies will be provided. This class is for students ages 9 and up with a participating adult.

Introduction to Pastel Techniques

Bemis ArtTrax: Drawing
Instructor: Ronee Smith
Bemis ArtTrax is a new curriculum created to provide equitable and accessible pathways to the arts. ArtTrax courses introduce the fundamental concepts of painting, drawing, and sculpting through a series of engaging exercises. Emphasis is not on producing finished works of art but rather on developing a basic skill set through practice and repetition. No prior knowledge or experience in the medium is needed or expected for level I classes. The courses proceed sequentially, each level building upon what was previously presented. Perspective for Artists

Level II - This class is for those who have taken at least one class in the medium. Students should be comfortable with the basics of how to use and manipulate the medium.
Perspective does not have to be all math and rulers! There are a few basics to learn, but once you understand the concepts, they become second nature. We will cover one-, two-, and three-point linear perspectives, as well as multipoint and atmospheric perspectives. We can use all these techniques to create the illusion of depth in paintings and drawings. It’s a fun way to challenge yourself and expand on your skills! Supply list online. 16-Adult

Shading 101

Level II – This class is for those who have taken at least one class in the medium. Students should be comfortable with the basics of how to use and manipulate the medium.
This class is designed to build confidence in your drawing skills, and after it, you’ll be able to go beyond the outlines! We’ll introduce drawing on toned paper, practice with various charcoal and conte’ crayons, and drawing light as well as dark. Value and shading will share equal importance to outline. We’ll develop our skills through various class exercises, including using photos as references. This class will transform your two-dimensional drawings into three-dimensional art works. Zentangle ® Basics and Beyond

The Zentangle® Method is an easy-to-learn, relaxing, and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. It is a meditative and mindful way of creativity. This course will take you through the basic philosophy and terminology of Zentangle® and introduce you to a variety of patterns and techniques. Portrait drawing can seem like a challenging skill to learn since every face is unique and filled with detail but in this course, you will learn how to draw portraits down to the finer details! The instructor will guide you through each stage of drawing from proportion, structure, and how to draw facial features by drawing from real life. Bemis ArtTrax: Painting

Speed Up Your Drawing
Instructor: Michael Forde
Level I – This class is for those with some familiarity with the medium. This could include informal use of medium outside of the classroom.
This class will emphasize speed and accuracy in your drawings including how to start drawings faster. Students will be pushed on speed earlier in the class and then can relax into a longer drawing in the second half of the class. No laid-back, leisurely drawing in this class. Standing is required to get an accurate drawing with speed and movement. Like athletics, quick drawing requires active body movement and the ability to move to get a better angle. Drawing faster requires repetitive practice. Supply list online. Adults

Stone Mold Making and Latex Casting
