What is the most unusual thing you’ve encountered while working in Real Estate? I always lead the way when we view homes. One time I was heading toward the basement only to find NO STAIRS! Protecting my clients from falling into the basement.

One can be far too close to the transaction, which makes objectivity more difficult. The other can be too far removed to see the needs from the perspective of an owner/occupant
How long have you lived in the Douglas County area? I moved to Denver Metro in 1983 and have lived in Douglas County since 1991. We are in our third home in Castle Rock since 1994. What do you like most about it? Unbelievable views and open spaces - excellent schools - thoughtful and progressive town leadership.

Location is hurdle #1. Then careful calibration between “want and need,” – budgetary clarity is paramount #2. Reasonable goals and expectations are #3. What is the most unusual thing you’ve encountered while working in Real Estate? Now, mind you, I have been in the business for a long time, but I guess the most “unusual” thing I have encountered is probably what makes the business so interesting. Based on the type of transaction, real estate is one of the few events experienced that can and does bring out the best and the worst in people, sometimes on the same day!

What is the most challenging part of what you do? Balance is the most difficult part of my job. I walk a tightrope between Owner and Tenant every day. I have learned to offer the best possible customer service to my Tenants, while enforcing the terms of the lease and protecting my Owner’s investment. What do you most enjoy doing when you’re not working? I work long hours, but when I’m not in the office, I can be found fishing one of Colorado’s lakes or rivers. In the wintertime, I’ll be preparing for next year’s fishing adventures, daydreaming about trout, and tying flies. What is one tip you have for an Owner wanting to rent their house? Engage a Property Management Specialist to assist you, preferably a NARPM member. Leases, maintenance, and legal compliance are sticky situations and are most efficiently handled by someone who deals with those issues on a daily basis. What is one tip you have for a Tenant looking for a rental home? The Colorado rental market is highly competitive. Be prepared to submit an application at the showing appointment (we often receive multiple applications for each rental). Be aware of online rental scams. Always meet an Owner or Manager in person, and never send funds overseas.
What do you like most about it? I am absolutely in love with Colorado’s mountains. Having known them all my life, the view still takes my breath away. Additionally, we have world-class fishing, hiking, skiing, bike trails, and any other healthy outdoor activity you could want. There is absolutely no better place to live.
What is the most unusual thing you’ve encountered while working in Real Estate? Property Management is an unusual field in itself. Every day brings a new learning opportunity. My Team and I have learned to deal with issues such as a house fire, a raccoon breaking in through the attic, and a Tenant passing away in a rental home. Fortunately, we are equipped to handle such issues.

In preparing, they understand what is all involved from before the sign is in the yard until they move into their new place. By preparing before selling the process is mentally easier to navigate. The 30-minute shows on television are only a glimpse to what it takes to sell a home.
What is the most unusual thing you’ve encountered while working in Real Estate? In Real Estate, you see many different or unusual things in people’s houses when you show them. The most unusual would be the single-family home in a middle-income residential subdivision, which was being used as a small farm. There were eight chickens, two pigs, and a goat - not to mention the two dogs and a cat.
What is one tip you have for someone looking to buy a house? The tip would be to find out

I have lived here all my life. I have seen the area grow and prosper. In this unique economic time, which has a broad impact on the real estate market, the most challenging part is keeping the real estate transaction together from the time of contract to the closing table.
