Dear Douglas County Residents: The Douglas County Community Foundation (DCCF) is a tax-exempt, nonprofit with a goal of building permanent, named funds for the benefit of the residents in Douglas County. DCCF also supports local charities by assisting with financial and administrative tasks. In very broad terms, the DCCF is a way to connect people who care, with causes that matter. The DCCF partnered with Douglas County Gives (DCG) to increase the awareness, and support of, charitable organizations located in Douglas County. On this one, special day, people around our state participate by providing urgently-needed resources. The emphasis of DCG is to Give Where You Live. We know our residents are generous, and together with The Community First Foundation, DCG is an easy and convenient way to support favorite organizations within Douglas County. With the season of giving upon us, we hope you’ll take the time to consider donating to one of the organizations in the Giving Guide and directly help Douglas County. Each charitable organization listed in the Giving Guide is a member of DCG, a coalition of nonprofits in Douglas County, and has met the rigorous eligibility requirements needed to participate in Colorado Gives Day. This year, Colorado Gives Day is on December 6th. We hope you’ll take the opportunity to look through the Giving Guide and learn about the many nonprofits located in our community. We know Douglas County is a wonderful place to live, but it’s also a wonderful place to give! Douglas County is home to an amazing array of charities working in a variety of areas including animal welfare, arts, advocacy for those with special needs, education, land and wildlife conservation, youth and adult health and welfare, and so much more. The Giving Guide also includes information about how to give on Colorado Gives Day and throughout the year. We are grateful to Colorado Community Media and its continued support of our community through various efforts, including its production and distribution of the Giving Guide. ABOUT US Founded in 1965, Arapahoe Community College (ACC) was the first community college to open in the Denver area. What began as Arapahoe Junior College with 550 students has grown into a vibrant community college with campuses in Littleton, Parker and Castle Rock serving over 21,000 students annually. It is estimated that 95% of ACC students will remain in Colorado – filling important jobs in health care, law enforcement, computer specialties and a host of other critically needed occupations that affect our lives every day. ABOUT US Seniors are living longer and boomers are redefining what aging gracefully means. The demand for services for the Senior Center’s growing 900+ members is increasing, while funds are squeezed to meet these needs. More than 140 activities are planned monthly for the diverse population ranging from active seniors desiring to try new things, like those trips on their “bucket lists,” to those elderly folks who are in need of wellness programs, social activities and hot meals. Among the Center’s services is a vital transportation program, providing rides to doctor appointments, grocery stores and on errands. Donations are sought on behalf of these folks who led our nation, fought for our freedoms, lived productive lives, and raised generations of hard workers. They have earned our respect and now it’s time for us to help them “love life in the second half.”

ABOUT US The Chelsea Hutchison Foundation serves individuals, families and communities affected by epilepsy by raising awareness of the common yet little-known condition SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy), by providing support and equipment for prevention of this occurrence, and by creating a safe space and raising awareness within the greater community. We raise funds to provide education about SUDEP and to provide seizure response dog grants and movement monitors that help to protect against SUDEP. Our in-home and school speech/language program is often paired with our hippotherapy (Wee Ride) program to ensure the best outcome. In the home, we are able to work individually with the child to help them master certain sounds and words. Through hippotherapy a child is able to bond with a horse, build social skills, decrease sensory issues, while gaining core muscle strength to help with everyday tasks including talking and walking! This is, by far, our best combination but also our most expensive. Directly make an impact with children by donating to CAN and helping them benefit from this popular and successful therapy!

At CALF’s Lowell Ranch we take joy in sharing real life agricultural experiences with people of all ages and abilities. ABOUT US We have seen how violence that begins in the home, and in relationships, spreads into the community. If not addressed, we know that domestic violence is detrimental to families and the community as a whole. The victims the Crisis Center serves have experienced physical and emotional trauma, sometimes for the majority of their lives. The Crisis Center is often the first point of contact for victims of domestic violence. Without our programs and services, these victims would remain unsafe and without the resources to help them break the cycle of abuse and obtain self-sufficiency.

Annually, the DCEF recognizes outstanding teachers and staff at the Apple Awards. GIVING OPPORTUNITIES Donations will help repair/replace equipment – ropes, medical equipment, and our 1998 Chevy 2500. Formerly an ambulance, it’s now our command post, but it’s expensive to maintain and must be replaced soon. We also need our own permanent space. Rescue trucks are currently parked in an open lot – weather is hard on it, delays responses (e.g., removing ice, dead batteries), requires maintenance to be done outside, and we have nowhere to dry wet equipment.
ABOUT US Douglas County Search and Rescue (DCSAR) was formed in September 1998. El Paso County Search and Rescue (south of Douglas County) loaned us equipment, provided instruction, and allowed our team to use its facility for training. After intensive team member training that fall, the team was operational in December. Our first mission was Feb. 10, 1999, searching for two missing dirt bike riders on Rampart Range. We located the missing bikers in near blizzard conditions. They were cold, but alive. Since then, we have served Douglas County, Greater Denver, and Colorado with distinction, averaging 130 missions per year. In 2015, we conducted 116 searches, including 54 in urban areas, 23 rescues (many technical), 11 out of county missions, and 2 body recoveries. To accomplish this, the team donated 12,000+ hours to the community and drove 104,000 miles on personal vehicles.
ABOUT US The Douglas County Veterans Monument Foundation (DCVMF) is an all-volunteer, Colorado 501(c)3 non-profit, that maintains an award winning monument and gathering place at the corner of 4th and Wilcox in Castle Rock. The monument “Freedoms Keeper” was erected in 2013 to honor all of Douglas County past, present and future veterans. The DCVMF is continually dedicated to putting the needs of our veterans at the forefront. Working with the community, we help to educate, support and honor our veterans by hosting various events and by providing Veterans assistance grants of up to $1,000 to our very own Douglas County Veterans.

ABOUT US Douglas Land Conservancy (DLC) is a non-profit organization made up of concerned citizens. Based in Castle Rock, Colorado, DLC primarily serves Douglas County. However, recognizing the importance of a regional approach in land conservation DLC has recently broadened its focus to support surrounding counties, including Jefferson and Elbert. Since 1987 DLC has protected 22,100 acres from being developed, in perpetuity. These lands include agricultural lands, public recreation open space, scenic viewscapes, critical wildlife habitat, and wetlands. Of those 22,100 acres, 11,102 acres are open to the public and provide great trails and recreational experiences for all to enjoy. 10,998 acres are private lands that protect agricultural operations, open space, scenic viewscapes, critical wildlife habitat, and wetlands from ever being developed. It is DLC’s job to ensure that these properties are protected in perpetuity by visiting each property annually. The hardest part of our job begins once a conservation easement is put in place on the land.

HawkQuest is entirely outreach - we bring our birds and educational programs to your location. We also have a program to fund Douglas County High School low income or homeless students who typically pass up on educational field trips or extra-curricular activities essential to their education because of their family’s financial distress. ABOUT US Nature’s Educators is a volunteerdriven educational wildlife program in Douglas County. We are licensed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service to care for non-releasable raptors for educational programming. We also care for a variety of reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. We travel the state (and surrounding) to give presentations on conservation, habitats, adaptations, anatomy, and so much more. We visit hundreds of schools, festivals, meetings, events, nature centers, and
assisted living homes each year. It is so important to learn about the animals we share our ecosystems with. Our volunteers work so hard to care for our amazing animals, give great presentations, and constantly be researching new ways to get audiences excited about wildlife. We are currently building a brand new nature center and your donations will help us to finish this dream as well as feed our ambassadors.

ABOUT US The Parker Task Force was founded in 1987 by four local women, representing four area churches, and the Parker Fire Safety District. We are a 100% volunteer organization. ABOUT US RMCR serves all of Colorado and neighboring states by working with various rescues, shelters and individuals to make a significant and lasting difference in the lives of Cocker Spaniels. We are governed by Colorado’s Pet Animal Care Facilities Act (PACFA), a licensing and inspection program and the only Cocker Spaniel rescue in Colorado licensed by PACFA. Since starting in 2009, we have rescued more than 1000 cockers and cocker-mixes. Every dog is spayed/neutered and given a full exam by a veterinarian. RMCR pays all expenses, e.g., food, grooming, vet care, while the dog lives in a pre-screened volunteer’s home. We have an excellent hospice program and do not refuse dogs solely on age or health. After evaluating a dogs’ behavior, many volunteers will also train or socialize the dog to help it find a forever home that will allow it to thrive and succeed.
