Students at Kingsway Christian Academy are Equipped to Encounter and Excel while embracing their God-Given identities KingsWay Christian Academy offers its students a bible-based education that integrates Christian principals and scriptural truths with academic and social expectations for every student, and parents couldn’t be more pleased. Proud that KingsWay Christian Academy offers a nurturing learning environment where the primary mission is to raise children who love God and become servant leaders, parent, Jessa Johnson, said it’s wonderful that they provide a place where her children are safe to talk about Jesus, and a place where it’s absolutely OK to pray before eating a meal. “KingsWay Christian Academy has small class sizes and amazing teachers who love and pour their hearts into the kids,” Johnson said. “But, the priority for me is they love the Lord.” Small class sizes have always been a priority at KingsWay. “With smaller class sizes and low teacher-student ratios, we’re able to give each students individualized attention, care and meet the social and educational needs of each student,” said school principal Torrence Jackson. “This personalized approach also lends to a more successful relationship as students find mentors and trusted leaders in their teachers.” With his daughter attending KingsWay, which is open to students between preschool and sixth grade, Jim Liberatore said he believes his children will be prepared. Future preparedness comes into the school’s guiding philosophy to Encounter, Equip and Excel. Kingsway creates an atmosphere for students to encounter the fullness and love of God, equip them to become critical thinkers and servant leaders, and to excel in all areas of life by embracing their God-given identities. “If your kid comes here, and leaves and graduates from this school, they are going to be prepared to handle stress and anxiety,” Liberatore said. “They are going to be filled with joy. They are going to be filled with promise, purpose and hope.” With a focus on the Lord, the principal at KingsWay Christian Academy stresses that all denominations are welcome. The school, which is not affiliated with any church, is open to Christian and nonChristian families. For some parents, attending KingsWay makes perfect sense. “God is at the center of everything we do in our lives,” said parent, Brad Pearse. “God is at the center of family, at the
center of our community. It was really important to also have (God) at the center of our education.” Besides a quality education and focus on God, KingsWay Christian Academy also provides the following: Convenient Location: Just off Interstate 25 and Meadows Parkway, at 4760 Castleton Way, the school is easily accessible School Security: Equipped with security cameras throughout the property, and security doors- students are kept safe at all times. Parent Volunteer program: Parents know that when it comes to the education or the children, making Christian education is an important priority. Parents are always allowed to volunteer in the classroom, outdoor activities and to work however they’d like to invest time and care in their child’s education. Through curriculum, teaching and leadership, KingsWay focuses on developing future leaders of our community, state, nation and world. Uniforms: Students are required to wear uniforms while attending. Affordable tuition: In offering a comprehensive preschool through sixthgrade education, Kingsway Christian Academy offers affordable rates, and for those who qualify, a tuition assistance program. Rigorous education/academic: Helping students to excel in all areas, KingsWay Christian Academy curriculum is developed by Christian Worldview, which emphasizes critical thinking skills and encourages student input. Quality administration and staff: KingsWay teachers have a combined 60 years of teaching experience, and the school Principal brings educational leadership than spans more than 15 years in leading faith-based schools. hassle-free tips
for protecting your student’s valuables at school
(BPT) - From phones and tablets, to computers and headphones, technology has quickly become an integral component within the daily lives of students of all ages. A departure from the contents of students’ backpacks as little as 10 years ago, these pieces of technology have, on the one hand, made students’ lives easier - including communication and access to necessary information - but also have made the cargo in their bags much more valuable and, consequently, attractive to potential thieves. Low-level theft is an unfortunate reality for schools across the nation. In fact, a recent study from the National Center for Education Statistics found that more students experience incidents of theft and violence at school than away from school. The crime rate works out to roughly 33 victimizations per 1,000 students at school per year. And with backpacks carrying more expensive tech, these thefts at school have left more at stake for students. To make sure your child’s valuable electronics, books and other essentials are safely stored away this school year, the security solutions experts at Master Lock have collected a handful of easy-to-follow safety measures to protect the belongings students - and their parents - value most. • Is it necessary: A natural first step in helping to protect your child’s valuable belongings is to establish if the item is a must-have in school. While they might love their new tablet, so might potential thieves. Having an open discussion about responsibility and what’s necessary will go a long way in keeping their belongings safe. • Quick change: By the time they hit middle school, many students are required to navigate the halls between classes with speed. To make sure they are not late to class while still securing their belongings, try the Master Lock Speed Dial Padlock. With up/down/left/
right directional movements, the Master Lock Speed Dial Padlock provides students unparalleled quickness and convenience when opening their lockers in-between periods. • Security on-the-move: Depending on the age, juggling a phone, keys, debit cards and other small valuables is a reality for many students walking the halls at school or paths on campus. The Master Lock Portable Personal Safe is an ideal solution for students looking to securely lock up their belongings between classes or in their dorms at college. • Hide in plain sight: Larger electronics such as laptops, tablets and cameras can often come with their own carrying cases, and when thieves are looking for an item to steal, they look for the cases themselves, trusting the contents will be inside. To help protect your student’s possessions, mix it up and find some other bag or transportation method to house their tech. If thieves don’t see your student walking around with the case
in their hands, they’ll be less likely to realize there is something for them to steal. • No key, no problem: While protecting from unwanted intruders, securely locking up a locker at school or in gym class can also accidentally keep out the owners themselves due to a forgotten combination or lost key. Master Lock’s award-winning Indoor Bluetooth Padlock offers students a new way to keep their items safe via a Bluetooth-enabled padlock which turns their phones into the key. This eliminates the hassle of a forgotten combination and gives students a lock only they or authorized users can open. As your child heads back to school this fall, following these simple safety tips can help ensure their valuables don’t fall into the wrong hands. To learn more about protecting your child’s belongings at school with the innovative security solutions from Master Lock, visit Masterlock.com/personal-use/school-gym-health-club.

The Power of STEAM
At American Academy, we reach for academic excellence every day, full STEAM ahead! A charter public school (no tuition), American Academy serves Kindergarten through eighth grade at three Douglas County campus locations, and children ages 3-5 at our private preschools (KindiePrep). We deliver a solid academic foundation using Core Knowledge curriculum and a STEAM emphasis (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) in a climate of support and student-teacher connectedness. We teach the whole child, addressing socialemotional growth along with academic achievement, and meeting each student at their own level of readiness. We teach character and manners so students can connect successfully with the world. And we focus on STEAM so we can tie the challenges and skills of science and technology to the creativity of the arts while providing a wide range of opportunities for students to explore diverse interests and passions. A Solid Foundation We use the Core Knowledge curriculum to build a sequenced, common foundation of history, world civilizations, geography, art, culture, and music. Our language arts and math curriculums complement Core Knowledge perfectly, developing those skills in an incremental and sequential manner to ensure longterm retention and deeper understanding. Our daily science curriculum and proprietary STEM curriculum (STEM Discovery Weeks and Engineering Academy) are designed to meet Next Generation Science Standards. We round out each day with a regular rotation of art, music, technology, and physical education classes. A Challenge for Every Child
We know that not all students start at the same level, learn in the same way, or master skills at the same pace. To meet every child at their individual level of readiness, American Academy uses flexible ability grouping. Ability groups allow our teachers to challenge each student with concepts and skills appropriate to their particular level of readiness while also requiring them to grow and master new ones. To form an accurate picture of whole student readiness, we assess
students in several ways in multiple subjects throughout the school year and combine that information with teacher and learning support staff insight. Students move between ability groups over the years as we work to meet their individual needs for support and challenge. Building Character The American Academy Character program highlights those character traits which lead to truthfulness, academic and personal excellence, and consideration for others. We teach and encourage American Academy Manners in order to support those character traits and to help students put them into action. These character traits and manners are implemented, modeled, and repeated in and out of the classroom at every opportunity, every single day. The result is a school culture of kindness, respect, and personal responsibility, and a body of students who are able to engage positively and productively with others at school and beyond. A STEAM Emphasis Our school-day STEAM curriculum instructs students in core subjects, teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving. It also provides students with a safe space to try, fail and learn to persevere. Our extensive extracurricular STEAM programming is divided into two major areas of concentration — STEM and Performing Arts — and provides students with a wide range of exciting opportunities to explore! All students are encouraged to try new things in both concentrations and many programs intentionally connect across these areas of concentration. Some examples of STEAM extracurriculars include acting techniques, instrumental classes, band and orchestra, choir, theater tech, visual arts clubs, school musicals, FIRST Lego League and FIRST Robotics Competition, science club, yearbook, broadcasting club, music theory, dance, engineering certification, and performing arts certification. We are always looking for new ways to challenge and inspire our students with STEAM! Learn more at www.aak8.org and sign up to take a tour!

PUBLIC EDUCATION “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically.” -Martin Luther King, Jr. “The whole people must take upon themselves the education of the whole people and be willing to bear the expenses of it. There should not be a district of one mile square, without a school in it, not founded by a charitable individual, but maintained at the public expense of the people themselves.” - John Adams “Education is here placed among the articles of public care, not that it would be proposed to take its ordinary branches out of the hands of private enterprise, which manages so much better all the concerns to which it is equal; but a public institution can alone supply those sciences which, though rarely called for, are yet necessary to complete the circle, all the parts of which contribute to the improvement of the country, and some of them to its preservation.” -Thomas Jefferson

In Cherry Creek Schools, we launch students to successful futures Our success as a district is tied directly to our students’ success in school and beyond. That’s why even as one of the highest-achieving school districts in the state, Cherry Creek is committed to continuously improving and continuously striving for higher levels of achievement. The Cherry Creek School District is located in the southeast Denver, Colorado metropolitan area where “fruited plains” meet the “purple mountain majesties.” Our mission is “to inspire every student to think, to learn, to achieve, to care.” We educate more than 54,000 children and serve over 300,000 residents in 108 square miles that spread across eight municipalities: Cherry Hills Village, Centennial, Foxfield, Glendale, Greenwood Village and portions of Aurora, Englewood and Denver. Every day, Cherry Creek students rise to the challenge of
high expectations and achieve amazing things. Our four-year graduation rate is 88%, higher than the state and national average, and our students consistently score higher than state and national averages on assessments such as the ACT and SAT. While Cherry Creek students excel in the classroom, they also shine in the outside world. Our students grapple with real-world challenges, collaborate to discover realworld solutions, and lead real-world community engagement. Whether it’s Eaglecrest High School students sending science experiments to outer space aboard a NASA spacecraft or Cherokee Trail students engraving wooden plaques for the crew members of the U.S. Navy’s newest nuclear submarine, the USS Colorado, Cherry Creek students are leading the way.
District Goals and Priorities: Inclusive Excellence – We are raising the academic achievement of all students, closing the gap between the highest- and lowest-performing students, and eliminating the predictability of achievement by race. College and Post-Secondary Preparedness and Success – We are preparing students for success in college and other post-secondary options, including vocational education, the military and the workforce. Innovation – It’s the standard in every Cherry Creek school and every classroom, helping prepare every student for success in their future. You’ll find
innovation in our elementary schools, where even our youngest students are writing computer code, building robots and launching weather balloons. In our middle schools, innovation drives increasingly rigorous academics and challenging co-curricular activities. Innovation in our high schools encompasses outstanding academic programs including Honors, Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate, as well as Career and Technical Education offerings in high-demand fields. To learn more, visit our website at cherrycreekschools.org.
Investing in Excellence – Last November, voters approved a bond and budget package that included $250 million in bonds for projects that will transform student futures, including: • A new, state-of-the-art facility for 11th and 12th graders dedicated to career and technical education, including automotive, construction, health, hospitality, energy, advanced manufacturing, aviation/aerospace and computer science. • A faster and better-protected wireless network, web filtering and firewalls.
• Construction of “innovation spaces” at every elementary and middle school, learning areas designed to ignite curiosity and creativity. • A new elementary school and new middle school to alleviate overcrowding in the district’s eastern-most schools.
Great Neighborhood Schools WORLDS OF OPPORTUNITY What does the future of excellence look like in Cherry Creek Schools? Construction of innovation spaces at every elementary and middle school to ignite curiosity and deepen learning. A new Career and Innovation Academy to prepare the next generation of problem finders and problem solvers. Move Mountains with your academic and career goals at ACC By: Jeff Duggan, Arapahoe Community College Communications Coordinator Arapahoe Community College is the perfect place to begin – or continue – your journey towards Moving Mountains with your academic and career goals. ACC offers an affordable education (lowest tuition among state-funded schools) with instructors who are experts in their field. Classes are available online and at our campuses in Littleton, Parker and Castle Rock. We’re close to home, and our small class sizes allow students to receive individual attention. Students can get involved with clubs and organizations as they acclimate to college life. ACC also has a fully-accredited childcare center on site, providing students, employees and members of the community with a clean, healthy and nurturing
environment for little ones. Our Career & Transfer Center provides guidance for students looking to continue their education beyond ACC. In fact, we offer guaranteed transfer programs to all four-year Colorado public institutions. Transfer fairs, employment expos and career exploration events are held throughout the year. The Colorado Department of Higher Education recently announced that ACC served more high school students in dual-enrollment programs (4,403) than any other two-year public institution of higher education in the state for the second consecutive year. Even more, ACC offers FAFSA assistance (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for all college-bound students. It is estimated that 95% of ACC students will remain in Colorado – filling important jobs in health care, law enforcement, computer specialties and a host of other critically-needed occupations that affect our lives every day. The ACC Foundation provides instrumental support and opportunities for these students, making a direct impact on the
economic growth of our community through the development of an educated workforce. Employment opportunities for electricians are growing faster than the average for all occupations in the U.S. Colorado’s building boom in homes and businesses up and down the Front Range require more wiring, electrical power, and systems automation including communications, lighting and control systems. Yet many employers report difficulty finding qualified applicants. The Independent Electrical Contractors Rocky Mountain (IECRM) helps contractors recruit apprentices on a year-round basis. The organization offers apprenticeship training and continuing education programs to support education in the residential, commercial and industrial aspects of the industry. This includes basic electrical theory and practices, safety, new electric code regulations and changes, motor control and system applications, and other required certifications and skills needed in the profession.

As a career, electrical contracting ensures life-long learning for new methods, regulations, code changes and technology. “It is a field where high quality, good work is rewarded, paying more than average jobs in other trade sectors,” says Stansbury.

Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County is a tuition-free K-12 charter public school opening its doors in northern Douglas County in the fall of 2018. Ascent Classical Academy is one of 18 classical charter schools across the USA that is affiliated with the Hillsdale College Barney Charter School Initiative. Classical schools are unique among school choice options for three main reasons; a high or noble purpose, a content-rich curriculum, and a traditional classroom environment.
is taught with an emphasis upon our own history and traditions as American citizens and inheritors of the Western tradition. A classical education requires more than functional literacy. It teaches children from an early age high standards of grammar, precision in word choice, and an eloquence that can emanate only from a love of language.
Ascent Classical Academy teaches children to value knowledge for its own sake with a curriculum that delivers real content. Students learn about historical events, characters, stories, fables, myths, scientific facts, and mathematical proofs. They read whole books in great depth, and learn to approach books both with moderation to learn and courage to question.
The classrooms at Ascent Classical Academy emphasize the authority of the teacher, and therewith his or her expertise and responsibility to deliver it to students. Students are not the passive recipients of knowledge, but active participants in classroom discussion. This develops a love of learning in your child! An orderly environment facilitates attention, focus, and engagement. This helps students to know that they are not mere cogs in a machine; rather, they have the capacity to know, to think, to feel, and to act.
Children at Ascent Classical do not merely learn “critical thinking skills,” but also to furnish their minds and imaginations with something to think about. The emphasis of the curriculum is upon the core disciplines of math, science, history, language arts, and also music and art. Each of these disciplines

At this age, children are actively seeking out information and they learn quickly and easily, when exposed to developmentally appropriate materials. Research shows that children are especially interested in demonstrating their independence at early age and there is a strong hand-brain connection in their development. Mapleton Public Schools is building toward the future Earth movers and cement mixers are as common as school buses in Mapleton Public Schools this fall, with crews digging into a robust list of capital construction projects in all corners of the District. It hasn’t been a full year since the Mapleton community came out in support of the 2016 bond, and students are already learning in renovated schools and classrooms and playing on brand new turf at DiTirro Stadium. After spending last school year in a remodeled gym, students and staff from Big Picture College and Career Academy started this year on Broadway. Using funds from the sale of property in a largely industrial corridor, miles away from schools and families, Mapleton purchased the building located at 7350 N. Broadway. Half of the building was converted into Big Picture. Mapleton’s Administration Building moved into the other half of the building on Broadway. This move brings many resources under the same roof for the first time in decades. The former Administration Building on 80th Avenue and Washington Street is now the Operations Center and houses the Transportation Department, Operations and Maintenance, Warehouse and Nutrition Services. The Broadway Building will also host an expanded CareerX center, Mapleton’s
career and technical program. Students and staff returned to Welby Community School in September. Students were excited to find a mountainthemed library, a new cafeteria and renovated classrooms. Construction on the new gym and classroom additions are expected to wrap up in January. In the next few months, both the new Adventure Elementary school building the Global Primary Academy building will begin to take shape. Adventure and Global Primary Academy will open to students in the fall of 2018. Design work on Global Leadership Academy is wrapping up, and construction will start soon in preparation for a January 2019 opening. Design on the new school in the Midtown neighborhood is complete and construction will begin as soon as the District receives ownership of the five-acre plot. Mapleton is looking for volunteers to oversee the success and implementation of upcoming construction projects by serving on the Citizens Construction Advisory Committee. If you are interested in serving on the committee, please email communications@mapleton.us, or call 303.853.1000. To learn more about Mapleton’s capital construction projects visit www.mapleton.us.

Community is in our name! We are a home-grown, locally governed school of choice! We are not affiliated with a “national charter school chain” or managed by an educational management organization (EMO). This means local tax dollars remain here, benefitting our children. We are opening K-6, eventually adding grades until we are PK-8th grades. We are families that have come together to envision Apex Community School, whose mission is to provide an innovative and inclusive learning community that will welcome the breadth of student population, regardless of ability, socio-economic background, and/or language proficiency. Apex’s model will provide students with rigorous, research-based curricula selected for their proven effectiveness and systematically delivered using Direct Instruction. The curriculum includes: • Core Knowledge Scope and Sequence • Core Knowledge Language Arts, a phonemic based approach to literacy • Jump Mathematics, and • An integrated liberal arts program (Music, Art and Physical Education)
Additionally, Apex will utilize a literature-based and integrated character education program. Our enrollment is weighted in favor of students that are learning the English language, have IEPs and/or are experiencing socio-economic struggles. Apex’s school fees will be assessed on a sliding scale and uniforms will be practical and affordable. We desire to be part of the community fabric in the Meadows and to that end, have forged a partnership with the Meadows Neighborhood Company, together seeking to see the emerging community around the Taft House and Pool become a significant community hub of events and offerings! Ben Franklin Academy: FULL STEAM AHEAD! Looking for a school that provides rigorous academic curriculum with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM), as well as character education? Ben Franklin Academy is The Core Knowledge STEAM School of Choice in Douglas County because we do all that AND MORE! At Ben Franklin Academy (BFA), our mission is to develop students from preschool through eighth grade who are well-read, scientifically curious and civically engaged. That’s why we provide daily instruction in core classes—science, math, social studies and language arts—as well as weekly instruction in technology, art, music, physical education and science lab. Middle school students (grades 6-8) also have core classes daily, as well as STEAM lab, Spanish, Physical Education, Life Skills, Technology and Electives. Here’s why BFA is proud to say that we are The Core Knowledge STEAM School of Choice: Science – Students learn complex material in an age appropriate way and their lessons are reinforced by weekly hands-on experiments which incorpo-
rate math, art, engineering, technology and inquiry into the scientific method. Our kids participate in Space Week, Earth Week, Engineering Week, Code Week, Playground Physics, Science Fair, the STEAM Expo, Star Lab and a number of dissections. Technology – The use of technology is incorporated into the very fabric of BFA—from state-of–theart classroom technology, to the iPads and computers each student can access. Elementary students not only learn the basics of how to use a computer, typing skills and Google Applications, but they also focus on elements of computer science and coding. Middle school students gain hands-on experience in a variety of intersecting fields to encourage ingenuity, persistence and confidence, including digital photography, graphic design, 3D modeling/printing, electronics and more! And, beginning in fifth grade, students have
access to their very own Chromebooks. Engineering – Various engineering concepts are routinely integrated into BFA’s curriculum. Additionally, elementary students complete a mini-engineering unit, and middle school students learn the basics of robotics, construct objects using 3D modeling software, and study software engineering through game design. Arts – BFA’s strong art curriculum engages the whole child and fosters high achievement in critical thinking, problem solving and collaborative learning. The music program offers a variety of opportunities for students to showcase their creativity and talent, such as musical performances in front of a live audience and introduction to instruments. Middle school kids have the opportunity to be involved in a full-scale musical production on our beautiful stage or take classes on technical theatre, song writing or guitar, to name a few.
Math – BFA uses Saxon Math because its innovative, instructional approach breaks complex concepts into simpler increments that are easier to learn. Research shows that the Saxon approach has produced significantly higher levels of student learning. Students thrive at BFA because we focus on the success of each individual student through the use of flexible ability grouping and differentiated instruction. And, we’re proud that our rigorous curriculum, character education and STEAM focus ensure students are successful when they transition to high school. Kids and parents aren’t the only ones who appreciate Ben Franklin Academy— with a supportive administration, autonomy in the classroom and small class sizes—our staff and accredited teachers do as well! That’s why we can boast about a 90 percent average teacher retention rate from year-to-year. Leman Academy of Excellence The world is full of knowledge, and to the classical mind, all knowledge is interrelated. Leman Academy of Excellence (LAE) offers a Classical Education unlike any other in Douglas County. LAE’s Classical Education uses history as its organizing outline. Literature, science, geography, art and music are taught in connection to the time period under study in history, allowing our scholars’ minds to feast on a rich, meaningful, and interrelated curriculum. LAE’s curriculum further includes Spanish, Latin, Saxon Math, and Shurley English, all taught through a classical approach. Classical learning follows three basic stages of development, called the Trivium: Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric. Such an approach teaches “with the grain” and equips scholars to meaningfully absorb, synthesize, and apply their learning in age-appropriate ways. The ultimate aim of our classical program is to train tomorrow’s leaders in wisdom and virtue. We believe this happens within a safe and encouraging environment, in partnership with supportive families. While the classical curriculum differentiates the school, what truly makes LAE unique is that the parenting and
child development philosophies of Dr. Kevin Leman are incorporated into the classroom, fostering a school culture that is encouraging and respectful. LAE offers a learning environment for youth that willingly engages and embraces parents in the educational process, highlighting the parent-teacher-scholar relationship to bring out the best in the child. This partnership with parents is a cornerstone of LAE and is essential in maximizing a scholar’s educational experience. Conveniently located at the intersection of Stroh and Parker roads, LAE is currently building a K-8 facility. Like all charter schools, LAE is a tuition-free, public school that enrolls students by way of a lottery. The lottery will take place on November 20, 2017 for the 2018-2019 school year. Students shall be considered for enrollment without regard to race, income, creed, gender, national origin, religion, ancestry, disability or need for special education. For more information or to enroll your child visit www.LemanAcademy.com/ parker or attend an Open House on November 15th at 10:00 a.m. or 6:30 p.m. at the Parker Library.
Our mission is to honor Christ by teaching, encouraging, training and grounding students in God’s truth within a dynamic, academic environment. For Christ...Heart, Soul, Mind, Strength. It is our desire and commitment to build students up who have a heart to serve Jesus and others, a soul that desires a close relationship with the Lord, a mind that seeks purity and wisdom and strength of character and community. FOR CHRIST…Heart, Soul, Mind, Strength The HEART of Cherry Hills Christian is to help the next generation develop a lifestyle of service and giving so that they will continually ask, “What needs to be done?” and then do it - at home, in their community, and in the world. Creating a desire within our students to take care of God’s world and the people in it is a priority to us. We want students to leave CHC with heads, hearts and hands for service. CHC is committed to educating the
whole child, nurturing the SOUL of each student. Our students’ foundation is God’s truth found in His Word. We are equally concerned with the spiritual, emotional and social development of our students. We believe God created each child as His divine masterpiece, capable as learners and uniquely gifted for His purpose. Academics at CHC are dynamic: everevolving and rigorous. Student MINDS benefit from small class sizes and low student-teacher ratios. The intentional integration and use of technology creates a collaborative work environment that fosters critical thinking and creativity. CHC is dually accredited, many of our teachers have advanced degrees and we have been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School since 2014. Cherry Hills students gain STRENGTH from the depth and breadth of our programs. At every level, we place high value on serving others through nationally recognized community outreach programs. Education is successful when parents, Cherry Hills Christian, and a community of believers partner in this important responsibility. We look forward to partnering with your family!

Are all STEM schools alike?
STEM, the acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math is increasing in popularity as an educational choice in Colorado. Last year, Chalkbeat Colorado wrote, “a buzzword in public education and a popular concept with the business community, STEM is billed as an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to learning that exposes students to hands-on experiences to prepare them for the 21st century economy.” In the same Chalkbeat article, Stephanie Veck, executive director of the development council, which studies the state’s job market stressed that not all schools with
STEM-based curriculums are alike. She stated, “STEM, it’s a bit of a hot thing. Some schools and some programs will slap STEM on a program and it doesn’t necessarily deliver the outcome we hope for students.” STEM School Highlands Ranch is one of the few STEM curriculums that infuses STEM learning in all aspects of education. The school also is the only school in Colorado that offers this integrated STEM education from kindergarten through high school. “We worked very hard to open our school to the youngest learners,” said Dr. Penelope Eucker, the Executive Director of STEM School Highlands Ranch. “We believe it is vital that children become excited about science, math, computers and all technology at the very youngest of ages. They grow to appreciate and understand the infusion of STEM that will carve the path for the rest of their education and beyond.”
industry level IT certificates by taking classes in A+, Net+, and Security+. In our engineering Labs, students fine-tune their problem-solving and creative skills as they take classes in manufacturing, robotics, Computer Aided Design (CAD), digital electronics, and transportation technologies. The infusion of technology is also integral ini the liberal arts classroom as a tool to help students use information and build new knowledge. Teachers facilitate students through significant problem based learning (PBL) experiences where they are not simply acquiring new information, but working collaboratively to solve realworld problems in real-world contexts. The school also offers a myriad of Advanced Placement classes and Concurrent Enrollment (CE) enabling students to take classes both on and off campus for college credit, while still enrolled in high school. One of the most misunderstood aspects of a STEM curriculum is that students miss out on writing, arts and
Enrichment Learning at STEM School Highlands Ranch doesn’t stop in the classroom. From BEST Robotics, soccer, cross country and basketball to ballet, cheerleading, theater and fencing, students are engaged in learning after the bell rings at the end of the day. Students are eager to learn even outside the classroom, says Sara Phelps, Enrichment Director. “It’s an opportunity for them to not only discover new areas of learning, but also to make new friends, while developing their teamwork skills.”
Beneath it All
Problem Based Learning At STEM School Highlands Ranch, students are challenged to develop the essential soft skills necessary to be productive and valued members of the 21st Century workforce. As the student progresses, the engineering, technology and computer science classes become more rigorous and students begin programming in a variety of languages, learn creative applications like 3D animation/ modeling and designing, and build games. Additionally by high school, students are able to earn

humanities. “Not so, at STEM School Highlands Ranch, “ adds Eucker. “One of the attributes of STEM School Highlands Ranch is that the school offers rigorous humanities courses, arts, foreign languages, and a theater and a music program that was selected as one of the most innovative by the Entertainment Industry Foundation, but all infused with STEM.”
Career Discovery STEM School Highlands Ranch Career Discovery is the first of its kind career program for high school students in Colorado. The program offers students a menu of options to explore business fields in real world settings that can potentially lead to an internship/apprenticeship or full/ part-time job after graduation and during college. Currently students are working at many Colorado companies including Panther Industries, Arrow Electronics, Home Advisor and Swift Page. Junior Reade Webb, who worked at Arrow Electronics last summer explains,
In the end, our focus is on ensuring that all students become productive citizens of the world with strong character, and mastered skills in reading, writing, communication, math and critical thinking. We aim to support and challenge students and provide the firm foundation necessary to be successful with whatever pathway they choose to take after high school. STEM School Highlands Ranch is open every Wednesday at 10 am for tours and no appointment is necessary. The school also accepts open enrollment applications all year long.
