It was great to be with the West Chapter a few weeks ago for their Spring Membership Meeting. Ed Marzec has done an outstanding job leading the Chapter and we look forward to his continued service as he begins his term on the Section Board of Directors. In fact, it is good to see the strong representation from the West Chapter as they will have four professionals representing them on our Board. Some of you may have heard the announcement that Adam Scott, PGM, Director at UCCS, will be moving to be the next Head Golf Professional at the Mississippi State University Golf Course. I am proud of the impact Adam has made at the UCCS program and know that the future is bright. The decision to move was prompted from personal matters and we wish he and his wife our best. As we launch into the season, I hope you are refreshed and nearing full capacity for the season. There are long days ahead so take a moment to appreciate the little things around you. I would encourage you to take a couple minutes (include your staff if applicable) and write down 7-10 things you are grateful for at your current facility. Many times the key to greater satisfaction in your job is gaining perspective. Gratitude can do that for you and for those you lead. “Learn from the past, plan for the future, and be present in the present” Enjoy the season!

Sign Up for IVY Pro Am on May 23 The IVY Pro Am is an annual event that pairs one PGA Professional with three members of the armed forces, either active duty or veterans. It is put on by the Colorado PGA and hosted by Cheyenne Shadows Golf Course at Ft. Carson. The Pro Am will be played on Wednesday, May 23, 2018, and will begin with lunch and warm-up at 12:00pm followed by the 4-person scramble tournament at 1:30pm. In addition to playing, PGA Professionals are asked to bring along tee gifts from your golf shop for each member of your team, such as sleeves of balls, hats, shirts, etc. Following golf, there will be a hosted dinner and award ceremony. It’s Time for the Colorado PGA to Shine--Again! Volunteers Needed!!! By Eddie Ainsworth, PGA

very now and then I have to pause and take a moment to absorb everything our Colorado PGA Professionals do to serve our local communities and grow the game of golf. It almost seems like yesterday when, under the leadership of our Board of Directors, the Colorado PGA Golf in Schools Program was created and, as a Section, we hit the ground running in the Junior Golf space. Now when you think of all this Section does in the arena of Junior Golf – Golf in Schools, PGA Jr. League, Drive, Chip and Putt, and all things JGAC (Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado) – it is quite amazing.

To think back to when I first received an email from a young Army Captain in Iraq asking if we might possibly be able to help support a welcome Home Golf Outing for the 204th Brigade Support Battalion at Fort Carson, we hit the ground running in Supporting Our Military. Now we have multiple PGA HOPE Programs across the Section, annually award a Mortgage Free Home to a Combat Wounded Veteran and host the IVY Pro-Am every May. When the call went out to the Golf Industry that we needed to become a more Diverse and Inclusive sport, the Colorado Section once again hit the ground running in our efforts to make a positive impact in this

area as well. For several years now, we have been partnering with the U.S. Olympic Committee’s F.L.A.M.E. (Finding Leaders Among Minorities Everywhere) Program, where we introduce the game of golf to these college students and speak with them about how the game is good for business and life. Additionally, our Growth of the Game Grants target programs that introduce people to the game of golf who may not otherwise have a chance to learn and enjoy the sport. At the center of each and every one of these programs are our Colorado PGA Professionals that are making them happen!!! It’s our PGA Members who are going into schools, Captaining PGA Jr. League Teams, Playing Golf with our Veterans and conducting golf clinics for minority college students. It’s our Colorado PGA Professionals who are the best-of-the-best in what a PGA Professional does each and every day. Just today, I received a call from a High School Girl’s Golf parent commending PGA Professional Tom Buzbee at Gypsum Creek. Tom recently hosted a Girl’s High School Match and this parent was so impressed with the impact Tom and his

hope everyone is enjoying a great spring season. It seems as if winter keeps making return engagements – at least that’s been the case in Idaho! The tournament season is starting up in many PGA Sections across the country, and the PGA of America is no different. May starts “Major” tournament season for the PGA. Look forward to the following events as we embark on a historic season for the PGA of America: 79th KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship | May 22-27 51st PGA Professional Championship | June 17-20 64th KPMG Women’s PGA Championship | June 26-July 1 43rd Girls Junior PGA Championship | July 9-12 43rd Boys Junior PGA Championship | July 31-Aug 3 100th PGA Championship | August 6-12 42nd Ryder Cup | September 28-30 30th Senior PGA Professional Championship | Oct. 25-28 It will be a historic season as we stage the 100th PGA Championship at Bellerive, as well as the first Ryder Cup to be played in France. It should be a great Championship Season!

Golf Industry leaders participated in a record-high 230 meetings with members of Congress representing 40 states to discuss the game’s economic, social and environmental contributions to society during the 11th Annual National Golf Day on Capitol Hill on April 25. Produced by WE ARE GOLF – the coalition of the game’s leading associations and industry partners – National Golf Day brought together heads of golf organizations and companies from throughout the United States, including many PGA members. Coinciding with National Golf Day was the release of the new U.S. Golf Economy Report showing $84.1 billion in activity that was directly driven by golf in 2016. This represents a 22 percent rise from the report issued in 2011. The golf industry supported $191.9

billion in total annual activity, including 1.89 million jobs and $58.7 billion in wages and benefits. Demonstrating golfers’ and businesses’ commitments to charity, $39.4 billion was raised in 2016 through tournaments and other golf activities. Very encouraging numbers! I would like to inform you of a change the PGA Board of Directors has made to the PGA Constitution and Bylaws. While retaining the historically consistent requirement that individuals seeking PGA Membership be a U.S. Citizen, Resident Alien or Temporary Resident Alien at the time they gain PGA Membership, the PGA Board removed the clause that mandated the termination of PGA Membership for those who do not retain or lost their status as a U.S. Citizen, Resident Alien or Temporary Resident Alien after they gain PGA Membership. The decision resulted in the removal of the following clause in the PGA Constitution and Bylaws: APPENDIX A MEMBERSHIP MATTERS, ARTICLE V, Section 10. Citizenship The membership of Members who are no longer U.S. citizens, resident aliens or temporary resident aliens shall be terminated. In summary, individuals who gain PGA Membership as U.S. Citizens, Resident Aliens or Temporary Resident Aliens and subsequently lose that status will now be able to retain PGA Membership. In order to gain PGA Membership, individuals will continue to be required to be a U.S. Citizen, Resident Alien or Temporary Resident Alien. The PGA Global and Membership Committees unanimously recommended to the Board the removal of this termination clause as it will allow the PGA to maintain the value of an association with Members who pursue efforts internationally, while retaining the current standards of election to membership. Scott to Step Down from UCCS Golf Management Program

Adam Scott, PGA, Program Director for the University of Colorado â&#x20AC;&#x201C; Colorado Springs Golf Management program, has announced his resignation from the position. Scott will take on the new role of Head Professional at the Mississippi State University Golf Course. Scott, received a bachelor of business administration degree in marketing and professional golf management in 2007, and a master of business administration degree in 2010, both from Mississippi State University (MSU). Prior to taking his position at UCCS, Scott served as the Assistant Director of the MSU PGA Golf Management program. Prior to joining the MSU PGA Golf Management staff, Adam worked at the Mississippi State University Golf Course in Starkville, Miss.; and Pebble Beach Golf Links in Monterey, Calif. Scott submitted the following letter to the Colorado PGA upon his resignation.

PGA Jr. League Player Scholarships Available Player registration for the 2018 PGA Jr. League season is underway. Through a scholarship program offered by the PGA REACH Foundation and DICK’S Sporting Goods Sports Matter Scholarship Grant, participation in the program is open and attainable for all. Scholarships are available to any youth participant in PGA Jr. League captained by a PGA or LPGA Professional who qualifies for financial need or has a parent/guardian in the military. Rinker and Hanson to Co-Host West Chapter Teaching Workshop T

he West Chapter will be holding a Teaching Workshop at Red Sky Golf Club on June 5 from noon to 4 p.m. Hosting the event will be longtime PGA Tour Player and Red Sky Golf Club Director of Instruction Larry Rinker, along with the Director of Golf Jeff Hanson. The duo will focus on the philosophy of teaching golf and how to be most effective teaching members. The summit will include keynote addresses, networking opportunities and panel discussions with Colorado Women and Global Industry. Keynote Speaker: Tamara Lundgren Tamara has been President and Chief Executive Officer with Schnitzer Steel Industries since December 2008. She joined the Company in September 2005 as Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer and held roles of increasing responsibility, including Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining Schnitzer, Tamara was an investment banker and lawyer with 25 years of experience in the United States and Europe. She was a Managing Director in the Investment Banking Division of JPMorgan Chase, which she joined in 2001, and Deutsche Bank, which she joined in 1996. Earlier, she was a partner in the Washington, DC, law firm of Hogan Lovells (then Hogan & Hartson, LLP). Leadership – The Mission Isn’t Complete Until the Ball is Holed Suzanne “Zan” Vautrinot Suzanne “Zan” Vautrinot is President of Kilovolt Consulting Inc. and currently serves on the Boards of Directors for Wells Fargo, Symantec Corporation, ECOLAB Inc., Parsons Corporation and Battelle Memorial Institute. Previously, Zan achieved the rank of Major General in the U.S. Air Force where she accumulated over three decades of experience in space and cyber operations. Before retiring from active duty, Zan served as the commander of all Air Force cyber forces where she oversaw a multi-billion dollar cyber enterprise; leading a workforce of 14,000 military, civilian and contractor personnel, while conducting worldwide cyber operations on behalf of 850,000 customers. Zan was instrumental in the establishment and early operation of U.S. Cyber Command with responsibility for conducting offensive and defensive cyber activities for the Department of Defense. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree as one of the earliest female graduates the U.S. Air Force Academy, has a Master of Science degree from the University of Southern California, and was a National Security Fellow at Harvard University. She is also a graduate of the United States Air Force’s Air Command and Staff and Air War Colleges, as well as the Harvard Black Sea and International and National Security Programs.

Kathy Boe Kathy Boe, Founder and CEO of Boecore, Inc., is an entrepreneur with more than 25+ years of engineering and leadership experience supporting the Department of Defense. Her career began as a software programmer for a complex missile system and advanced through a series of technical and managerial roles prior to founding Boecore in 2000. Under Kathy’s leadership the company has grown to a workforce totaling 250 employees supporting a variety of mission critical programs with technical disciplines to include Advanced Software Engineering and Cybersecurity. Boecore is headquartered in Colorado Springs, CO with a regional office in Huntsville, AL and site operations in New Mexico, California, Washington, North Carolina and Virginia. Kathy holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from Pepperdine University. She is married to her husband Scott and they have three beautiful children.

Sandy Cross A member of the PGA of America staff since 1996, Sandy serves as Senior Director of Diversity & Inclusion and is responsible for developing, embedding, and advancing PGA’s diversity and inclusion strategies for cultural and business impact within the workforce, workplace, supply chain and the community. West Chapter Elects Apple and Thayer to Board Positions A

t its Spring Membership Meeting, the West Chapter Members elected two new Board Members to serve two-year terms. Elected were Tom Apple, PGA, Master Professional at the Country Club of the Rockies, and Kenny Thayer, PGA, Director of Golf with Beaver Creek Golf Club.

When asked what it means to be elected to the West Chapter Board, Apple commented, “As a member of the Chapter for 43 years and having been on the Board more than 30 years ago, I look forward to again serving my West Chapter brethren. “From the early 70’s when the West Chapter consisted of a dozen or so PGA Professionals, it’s gratifying to see nearly 100 Members in atKenny Thayer, PGA Tom Apple, PGA tendance at recent Spring and Fall West Chapter Beavercreek Golf Club Country Club of the Rockies Business Meetings. Our Chapter has grown from a handful of 9-hole and two 18-hole courses in 1973 to include some of the finest golf facilities and golf professionals in Western United States,” continued Apple. Golf has been a mainstay for Apple having begun his career as a junior golfer and caddy in Bucks Country, Penn., at the age of six. His past is dotted with Junior Championships, college golf and PGA Tour play. Since turning Professional while at Scottsdale (Ariz.) Country Club, he has served the members at Eagle Vail Golf Club, Country Club of the Rockies, PGA National Academy of Golf and Ballentrae Golf Club, to name a few. He is the recipient of many local awards. In contrast, Thayer’s efforts were focused on the slopes where he logged 20 years as ski instructor. He got into the golf business for a fun summer job that led him to Kapalua Golf Club on the Island of Maui. After six years, he returned to Colorado where he joined the team at Beaver Creek Golf Club as Head Golf Professional and then Director of Golf. Asked the same question, Thayer indicated, “It is very exciting for me. Being a Board Member has always been something I have wanted to be a part of but have always reasoned that I didn’t have the time. I finally came to the conclusion that I wanted to step-up to the plate and be a part of the success of the West Chapter.” Thayer’s goals for his time on the Board are straightforward. “My ultimate goal for becoming a West Chapter Board Members was to get involved. I am looking forward to working with the current Board Members, learning as much as possible and helping in any way I can.” “During my time on the West Chapter Board,” said Apple, “it would be my goal to encourage the involvement and participation of each of our Chapter Members to do our part in growing and giving back to the game.” Congratulations to these two PGA Professionals and thank you for your service!

Members who have served the PGA of America with honor and pride for 25 years are elected to the Quarter Century Club. Their steadfast promotion of our great sport is recognized with a letter from the PGA President, a special Quarter Century Club certificate and a gold Quarter Century Club lapel pin. Where did you grow up? I grew up in Wichita, Kansas, and lived there for 22 years until my graduation from Wichita State University in 1974. What was your first introduction to the game of golf? My dad introduced me to golf at the age of 12 after six years of playing little league baseball. I took to the game right away and played on both my high school and college golf teams. Why did you choose to become a PGA Golf Professional? I was very honored to become a PGA Golf Professional largely because I’ve always enjoyed playing and teaching this wonderful game. Most of my life has been centered around golf. What makes you most proud about being a PGA Professional? I am most proud of being able to represent the game of golf at a professional level and the stature that is afforded to those of us that honor and respect this great game. Golf has provided a wonderful living for my family as well as many social benefits that we have enjoyed over the years. What golf facilities have you been employed at and in what capacity? I started my golf career with American Golf Corporation at Applewood Golf Course in 1988 as an instructor here in Golden, Colorado. Soon after, I was transferred to Broomfield, Colorado, as the Head Professional at Eagle Trace Golf Course where I stayed for five years. In 1993, I became the PGA Head Golf Professional at Fox Hollow Golf Course here in Lakewood, Colorado, and now also oversee The Homestead Golf Course here in Lakewood, which opened in 2002. Between the two courses, we offer 45 holes of very high quality golf and beautiful conditions surrounded by a 2,600 acre regional park.

What do you feel is the most meaningful contribution to the game of golf you have made? My most meaningful contribution has been the thousands of people that I have influenced both directly and indirectly from teaching them, playing with them, or simply providing for them a wonderful place to play golf. Whenever I have contact with people, I look at that as an opportunity to make their day a little better and golf is a way to make that happen. What hobbies do you have outside of golf? My hobbies include being a loving and supportive grandparent along with my wife and spending as much time as possible with our four grandchildren. I can’t think of anything more rewarding. As time allows, my wife Terri and I love to travel and spend quality time together playing golf and tennis. If you could have a dream foursome, who would it be and why? My dream foursome would have been my family playing with Arnold Palmer. I know they would have loved meeting him and knowing Arnold, he would have loved meeting them. That’s more than a foursome but we would have had a great day!!

Hebinck and Buffalo Run March Forward to Salute Our Military T

he Supporting Our Military Pillar Award Winner for 2018 is Paul Hebinck, PGA, Manager of Golf at Buffalo Run Golf Course. What Hebinck started as a community program at Buffalo Run to engage those in Commerce City connected to the military has, in just its second year, transformed into one of seven Colorado PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) Chapters. Hebinck’s respect for those who have served our country originates from his father’s service – a career Air Force man. Having grown up in a military family, he is mindful of this group’s service to our country and he endeavors to give back. So, when First Assistant Golf Professional at Buffalo Run, Jordan LeBlanc, approached him with a plan to support Armed Forces members, they set out to create a program specifically catered for them. Helpful to this process was an adaptive golf-training course that both professionals completed through the Colorado Section to more effectively instruct people that may be in need of adaptation.

“I feel honored to have Jordan, who was active-duty Army stationed in Bahrain for many years, on our team here at Buffalo Run,” comments Hebinck. “The initial concept of the program was his brainchild that resulted in the creation of the program.” The goal of the program was to encourage and invite service men and women to come out to Buffalo Run

and either improve their golf skills or, if they were a beginner to the sport, to be introduced to the game of golf. The idea was that this four-week program would be free to all active duty, veteran or retired military personnel.

“We not only wanted to teach them a skill,” continues Hebinck, “but we wanted to give them an opportunity to interact with one another, to meet new friends and to rekindle old acquaintances. Golf is just the vehicle we used to get this group of people together for social interaction while enjoying the game.” Hebinck was grateful for the Growth of the Game Grant he received from the Colorado PGA REACH Foundation to help offset on-course time, range balls and the purchase of challenge coins. He also emphasized that a large part of the success of this program was a direct result of the support he and his team at the municipal golf course received from the Commerce City community – from the citizens in general, to the leadership, to the elected officials. In the first year, participants came from every branch of

Colorado PGA REACH News the military including the Navy, Army, Marines, Coast Guard and Air Force. The nearly 50 attendees were both active duty and veterans. When asked about the effect the program had, Hebinck responded, “It is impossible for me to speak specifically about the individual impact a program like this has because it is going to vary by individual. What I can tell you is that the feedback we got was huge thank yous. Thank you for acknowledging that we are a group in the community and that we matter; Thank you for acknowledging that our contributions to our country were significant; and Thank you for getting us together as a group so that we can have fun playing golf together.” “I think I speak for Jordan and myself when I say that as an instructor, it was truly an honor to be there and to be able to give back to those folks that have given so much to our community and to our country,” concluded Hebinck. That was last year; fast forward to this year. In 2018, the program will transition into a Colorado PGA H.O.P.E Chapter where service members will be given the opportunity to attend free golf clinics. The mission of the Salute to Military Service program is to utilize golf as a rehabilitative tool to help veterans overcome adversities and improve their physical, mental, emotional and social well-being. Veterans can learn the game of golf in a fun and interactive eight-week training program led by Buffalo Run’s PGA Professionals. Participants will again receive basic training on the game of golf covering everything from the flat stick to the boom stick. Additionally, this year, weeks four and eight will be used to get on the course to play 9-holes of golf. There will be some friendly competition and then afterward, a graduation that includes an awards ceremony and an opportunity to celebrate the program and the friends that were made

over the summer. Hebinck’s belief in the mission of the Colorado PGA REACH Foundation is clear when he expresses, “For me personally, the Foundation provides an opportunity to expand the reach of golf throughout the community. In our case, it is with military personnel. I think the commitment that the Colorado PGA has made to these pillars certainly demonstrates its commitment within the community to honor our military and provide them an opportunity to either be introduced to the game of golf or to play golf with more frequency. “For me, as a PGA Member, and for the rest of the staff at Buffalo Run, it truly is an honor to be able to give back in a very small way and to say Thank You to those folks that are connected to the military and who have served our country. It really was an honor and a heart-warming experience for all of us to be out there enjoying their company and hitting golf shots with these folks. I know that we got way more out of the interaction then they did. It is one of the reasons why we got into the golf business – to be able to give back to the community.”

WE ARE GOLF Reports 22% Increase in Economic Impact Ahead of National Golf Day Industry Drives $84.1 Billion in Annual Activity, 1.89 Million Jobs

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (April 24, 2018) – WE ARE GOLF – a coalition of the game’s leading associations and industry partners – unveiled its new U.S. Golf Economy Report at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. prior to tomorrow’s 11th annual National Golf Day. Highlighting the study – conducted by TEConomy Partners – is $84.1 billion in activity directly driven by golf in 2016, a 22% rise from $68.8B in the 2011 report. The industry supported $191.9B in total annual activity, including 1.89 million jobs and $58.7B in wages and benefits. Golf’s annual contributions to America’s economy also include: •

$34.4B in revenue from golf courses, clubs, resorts, driving ranges and other facilities (2.9% compound annual growth rate since 2011)

$25.7B in tourism spending (4.6% CAGR)

•

$7.2B in new home construction in golf communities (18.5% CAGR)

•

$6B in sales of golf equipment, apparel and supplies (1.4% CAGR)

•

$2.4B in professional tournaments, associations and player endorsements

•

(3.16% CAGR)

•

$1.9B in investment in existing golf facilities (4.6% CAGR)

Demonstrating golfers’ and businesses’ commitments to charity, $3.94B was raised in 2016 through tournaments and other activities. “The many positive trends show how golf is vital to the prosperity of America’s economic and social well-being,” says Steve Mona, CEO of the World Golf Foundation and administrator of WE ARE GOLF. “Increases in so many categories signify the health of golf has far-reaching influence across many sectors of the U.S. economy.” The fourth report since 2000 to measure the game’s effect, research encompassed golf course operations, tourism, real estate, supplies, tournaments, associations, charitable events, capital investment and other commercial segments. The report was announced in conjunction with National Golf Day, the industry’s pinnacle event of the year that brings leaders to Capitol Hill to meet with Members of Congress, the Executive Branch and federal agencies to discuss golf’s social, economic and environmental benefits to society. Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa to Host Premier PGA Member Championships The resort will host the 2019 PGA Cup, Inaugural Women’s PGA Cup, Senior PGA Professional Championship and 2020 PGA Professional Championship

eginning in 2019, Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa of Austin, Texas, will host the 29th PGA Cup and the inaugural Women’s PGA Cup - the premier international competition for men and women PGA Professionals. Barton Creek also will be the site of the PGA’s two largest all-professional events, the 2020 PGA Professional Championship and the 2019 Senior PGA Professional Championship. The PGA Cup, which matches 10-member United States and Great Britain & Ireland Teams in a Ryder Cup-style format, will be contested Sept. 23-29, 2019. The Women’s PGA Cup, Oct. 22-26, is a 54-hole stroke play event that is anticipated to attract five-member teams from Australia, Canada, Great Britain & Ireland, Netherlands, Sweden and the United States. The PGA Cup and Women’s PGA Cup do not include a purse, with each team competing for their country and the right to claim two-year ownership of a silver Cup. The Women’s PGA Cup and PGA Cup will each be conducted on the Omni Barton Creek’s Fazio Foothills Course. “This is an exciting time for the PGA of America to have our best playing men and women members showcased on an international and national stage at Omni Barton Creek Resort and Spa,” said PGA of America President Paul Levy. “Barton Creek offers a magnificent complex, and we are confident that its staff will be excellent hosts for unforgettable PGA Member championships.” The 53rd PGA Professional Championship presented by Club Car and OMEGA in April 2020 will feature a 312-member nationwide field and conducted on a course rotation to be determined. The 31st Senior PGA Professional Championship presented by Golf Advisor in October 2019 has a 264-member field, and will be conducted on the Fazio Foothills and Coore Crenshaw Courses.

Creek Resort & Spa. “In 2019, Omni will complete a $150 million transformation to the physical aspects of the property, ensuring the resort remains a top golf destination for many future generations.” The PGA Cup began in 1973, and the United States owns a 17-7-4 advantage over Great Britain and Ireland. However, the Americans last claimed the Llandudno International Golf Trophy in 2013, with Great Britain & Ireland winning the last two meetings: a 13.5 to 12.5 decision in 2015; and a 16-10 victory in 2017. The 2019 U.S. Team will be determined over a two-year point period spanning performances in the 2018 and 2019 PGA Professional Championships and the 2018 and 2019 PGA Championships. The five U.S. members in the inaugural Women’s PGA Cup will be determined through an 18-month point system that concludes on July 31, 2019. Begun in 1968, the PGA Professional Championship presented by Club Car and OMEGA is the showcase event for PGA Professionals and offers a $550,000 purse. The field includes players advancing from Sectional Championships, past Champions and the top 20 players and ties from the previous year’s Championship. The low 20 scorers in 2020 at Barton Creek earn a berth in the 2020 PGA Championship at Harding Park Golf Club in San Francisco. The Senior PGA Professional Championship presented by Golf Advisor originated in 1989, and has become one of the most popular competitions for PGA Professionals age 50 and older. The Championship has served as a stepping stone to many players to compete for a spot on the PGA Tour Champions. The low 35 scorers in the 2019 Senior PGA Professional Championship earn a berth in the 2020 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, Michigan.

Shop the most, so when we have nicer days, our sales are much better. We have sold some merchandise at low traffic/ bad weather times by special merchandise presentations at various special events like a TrunkShow at our Annual Spring Kick-Off meeting for the Ladies League along with merchandise presentations at various event functions, such as graduation and prom parties, annual golf club manufacturerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Demo Day, etc. The cooler temps and weather are also needed at times to help move the outerwear, rain gear, umbrellas and various cold weather items that are always stocked in the shop.

Investing in DEMOS and FITTING CARTS from at least three to four manufacturers assures that you are ahead of the curve. We have partnered with Titleist, Callaway, Taylor Made and PXG. Getting your STAFF trained properly with each manufacturer makes all of us experts, too. Take time to get knowledgeable about each company and the benefits that make them different from one another. There are so many types of steel and graphite shafts on the market, so educate yourself to be the expert, which will enhance the sale of any golf clubs. Try to schedule as many DEMO DAYS as possible and focus on one manufacturer at a time during these DEMO DAYS. Donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t dilute the experience. Have one of your trained fitting STAFF members on the practice range helping with the fittings. One idea that has worked extremely well at our facility is setting up our Launch Monitors on the range and having our FITTING CARTS available with a STAFF member. Fitzgerald Fires 65 to Win the Valley CC Pro-Am C

aine Fitzgerald, PGA, Assistant Professional at Meadow Hills Golf Course, finished with a 65 7-under-par to claim the top spot in the Valley Country Club Pro-Am held Monday, April 30, 2018. His game started off strong by eagling one and birdieing two of his first four holes. He shot 3-under-par on the front nine and 4-under on the back. It was obvious that the field was very competitive as is evident from the five-way tie for second place. All shooting 3-under-par 69 were Mike Northern, PGA, Life Member; Blake Sharamitaro, PGA, Assistant Professional at Riverdale Golf Club; Sherry Andonian, PGA, Instructor at Valley Country Club; Eric Bradley, PGA, Head Professional at Black Bear Golf Club; and Rich Lash, PGA, Instructor at MetaGolf Learning Center. In the Birdie Bash Team Contest where each player’s net score under par received one point, Dave Detweiler, PGA, Life Member, supported by his team of Kodi Hooper, Scott Forsyth and John Detweiler scored a total of 36 points for a first-place finish. The second place finish was as closely contested as the individual completion with three teams scoring 24 points. The teams included: Andonian with amateurs Colten Leier, Jim Carpenter and Austin Dean; Sharamitaro joined by Del Rodriguez, Dustin Snell and Cyrus Perme; and Tommy Wiles, PGA, Assistant Golf Professional at Meridian Golf Club, with Hugh McClearn, Kyle Sullivan and Dane Hamilton. Fitzgerald Posts Second Win This Week at Walnut Creek Stroke Play W

inning back-to-back events is never easy but don’t tell Caine Fitzgerald that. On a cool, damp day at Walnut Creek Golf Preserve, Fitzgerald, an Assistant Golf Professional at Meadow Hills Golf Course, posted a steady two-under-par 70 to win his second event of the week. Caine made three birdies and just one bogey on a day that saw temperatures in the 50’s with off and on rain. His round was highlighted by a finishing birdie at the par-4 9th hole.

Finishing tied for second were Doug Rohrbaugh, PGA, Instructor at Ironbridge Golf Club, and Kyle Voska, PGA, The Links Golf Course, who both posted a one-under-par 71. Bradley Wins Todd Creek Pro-Am With Impressive Round T

he Todd Creek Golf Club Pro-Am teed off on Monday, April 23, 2018, under clear blue skies at the first Colorado PGA Tournament of the year where the weather was agreeable.

With a 6-under-par 66, Eric Bradley, PGA, Head Professional at Black Bear Golf Club, dominted the field to claim his first victory of the year. He finished three-strokes ahead of second place finisher, Rick Cole, PGA, Head Professional at Eaton Country Club, and five-strokes ahead of Blake Sharamitaro, PGA, Assistant Professional at Riverdale Golf Club and Michael Weingartner, PGA, Assistant Professional at Thorncreek Golf Course, who tied for the third spot. Bradley birdied the 15th hole, which was his starting hole of the event. He also birdied the par-5 18th hole before posting an eagle on the par-4 second hole. Shots on four, eight, 10 and 14 also resulted in birdies, putting him 3-under-par on both the front and back nine. In the team competition, Rich Lash, PGA, Instructor at MetaGolf Learning Center, and his team of Justin Drescher, Danny Hahn and Keith Lilley completed the round at 17-under-par 127 to beat the second place team by 3 strokes. PGA Professional Chris Johnson, Life Member, with Pete Garvin, Clay Condon and Mike Morong kept the pressure on with a strong finish at 130 to claim second place. Click here to view all the results.
