President’s Message
Happy Holidays! By Ty Thompson, PGA
H
appy holidays to each of you! I hope each of you is able to refresh, relax, and revitalize your love for what we do as PGA Professionals. Golf has had a great impact on our communities and each of you should be proud of the role you played. Some of you were volunteers at growth of the game programs while others were able to donate financially to our efforts. Each of you touched golfers in your unique environment by helping that newcomer to the game, by helping a lapsed golfer regain their love for the game or by giving that outstanding tournament experience. Whatever environment you find Ty Thompson, PGA yourself in, thank you for repPresident resenting our association with Colorado PGA class and professionalism. Director of Golf
Colorado Springs Country Club ty.thompson@pga.com
At our annual board of directors planning session we discussed how we can be more effective and efficient in our mission to “Serve the Member and Grow the Game.” I can assure you that
your board of directors works diligently to represent you and make decisions that benefit the section as a whole. We are very proud of those you have chosen to represent your facility, your career, and your development as a professional. If there are questions to ask or ideas to share, I would encourage you to contact one of the directors as I can assure you that your questions or ideas will be presented. Growth! Each of us is able to control the education we receive and attain the growth we desire. I encourage each of you to decide on an area of growth over the off season. It could be tournament operations, merchandising, instruction, or club fitting. For others it may be focused on understanding financials or becoming a stronger leader. Whatever interests each of us – let’s look back in the spring and see that we were deliberate in our education and growth. With great certainty I can tell you that much of my growth has come from having great mentors. Who are your mentors? This could be the year that you developed that relationship to either be mentored or to mentor a younger professional. Reach down and reach up so we can make one another better---my best to each of you during the holidays!
Who is your wingman?

My Wingmen By Eddie Ainsworth, PGA
E
ach and every day I get to come to work with some of the finest people I know, where day in and day out our goal is truly to figure out how we better serve each and every one of our Colorado PGA Members, and in serving you, how we can help grow the game. These individuals are my Wingmen! Keith Soriano, our Assistant Executive Director of Foundation Operations, is truly an outstanding Certified PGA Member, who is passionate about empowering our PGA Professionals to their fullest potential and is always pushing the envelope on how we can make a positive difference in the lives of others. I could not have wished for a better individual to help me oversee all the great things our Colorado PGA REACH Foundation does in the areas of Youth Development, Supporting Our Military, and Diversity & Inclusion. Patrick Salva, our Assistant Executive Director of Section Programs and our longest tenured Colorado PGA Staff Member, has been incredible to watch as he has grown so very much in his effectiveness and abilities over his nine (9) years with the Colorado Section. His communication, video production, and administrative skills have brought so much to our operation, not to mention his abilities as our Tournament & Rules Expert, that I’m glad his is part of our Team. Justin Limon, our Tournament Director, continues to do a wonderful job insuring that our Section Tournaments are operated at the highest level. Justin’s passion to take care of our PGA Members is unparalleled. I don’t know of too many individuals that are as willing as Justin is to dedicate his time to make last minute changes for our PGA Members on a regular basis for Monday events. Justin is a very dedicated and loyal PGA Member who continues to grow professionally and I am excited to see what the future has in-store for him. Holly Champion, our Junior Golf Director, and newest full-time staff member and PGA Professional, was exactly who we needed on our team as we launched the Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado and recorded a record year for our Golf in School Program. Not to forget our Drive, Chip & Putt local and sub-regional qualifiers, PGA Junior League and all of the other Section programs she has helped with. Holly’s energy is outstanding and we all are excited to have her on our Team! Annie O’Donnell, our part-time Executive Assistant, who joined our Team earlier this year, has done an outstanding job keeping us all straight with all we have going on, while having to go through a complete conversion of the PGA of America’s financial accounting and reporting system. Annie is such a joy for all of us to work with because of her positive attitude and willingness to do whatever to help. She is such a great team player and we are all glad she’s on Our Team!
Each year we round out our Team with a couple of interns and this year we have had our finest intern ever in Mikayla Tatman! A recent graduate from CSU where she played on the Women’s Golf Team, Mikayla is a model individual of the type of young women we need in the golf business. We are so excited that we will be able to continue working with Mikayla as she will be the CGA’s Boatwright Intern for 2017!

Executive Director’s Message
These are the men and women are My Wingmen, who look out for me each and every day to help ensure that we do our best each and every day to serve you, our Colorado PGA Members. I don’t always take enough time to recognize them because our priority as a Team is about promoting the PGA Professionals we work for. If you get the chance please express your appreciation to each and every one of them, as it is they who make the Colorado Section one of the best PGA Section’s within the PGA of America! As 2016 comes to a close I hope each and every one of you will have the opportunity to unwind and rest over the Christmas and New Year Holidays. I know from personal experience that these times provide me the opportunity to clear my head and prioritize things for the coming year both personally and professionally. And if I may, please let me encourage all of you to prioritize things in your personal life first, and then prioritize things professionally, as it always amazes me that when I get the first area right, the second area seems to fall into place. And finally, my annual question to each and every one of you, Who Is Your Wingman? During this time of year especially, let’s take the time to look out for our fellow PGA Members. For those of us who are surrounded by family and friends, may I encourage you to pause and look to the needs of others around you. Please know that it is always my privilege to serve as your Executive Director and that we will always be here for you. If you know of one of ours who is in need during this time of year, please give me a call, and together with our Past Presidents, we will insure we follow up as we are committed to taking care of our own. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!! Very Respectfully, Eddie Ainsworth, PGA Executive Director/CEO Colorado PGA 6630 Bear Dance Drive Larkspur, CO 80118 eainsworth@pgahq.com O – 303-996-1593 M – 719-761-6125

District 9 Director Report
PGA of America Annual Meeting and Much More PGA Annual Meeting The PGA America’s Centennial in New York City last month was a memorable week of celebrating the 100 years of our Association and promoting our PGA members. Congratulations to our new officers, President Paul Levy, Vice President Suzy Whaley and newly elected Secretary Jim Richerson.
Kyle Heyen, PGA District 9 Director PGA of America Head Professional Hiwan Golf Club
As President Levy articulated to the delegates at the Annual Meeting and as we have discussed at a Board-level extensively, using the Long Term Strategic Plan as our guide, Employment and Education are our top areas of focus. We will therefore continue to increase resources behind these efforts including the hiring of s Chief Membership Officer who will oversee these areas and will be a PGA Professional. One of the highlights of the week was Jack Nicklaus being our keynote speaker. Mr. Nicklaus spent close to 90 minutes talking about his golf game over the years, his relationship with Arnold Palmer and his PGA Professional Jack Grout. You can

log onto PGA.org and watch his interview with Jimmy Roberts. It was also great to see the relationships that now Honorary President Derek Sprague and our CEO Pete Bevacqua have created with the PGA TOUR and USGA over the past two years. The new PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan as of January 1, spoke about the collaboration between the two bodies in growing the game and the continued relationship when he takes over the reins in 2017. Jay also spoke about his days growing up and still continues today the importance of PGA Members in his life. Mike Davis, Executive Director of the USGA also spoke of the collaboration between the two bodies and the continued relationships in growing the game. Mr. Davis briefly spoke on the USGA Rules Committee addressing a few rule changes, with one are being the Dustin Johnson rule. He also talked openly about the anchoring rule change and apologized to the delegation for the way the entire discussion and change was handled. This year the PGA Lesson area will be located in the front hall of the expo where the attendees will enter, adjacent to the Junior Golf Experience as well as the Swing Seminar stage. Revenue Workshop Set for January 12, 2016 PGA of America Senior Director of Player Development, Mike O’Donnell To Lead Workshop During my time as a Head Golf Professional, I always believed that one of the most impactful things that I could do for my team members was to lead them to a deeper understanding of the needs of the consumer. I believed doing so would improve everything from member experience and satisfaction to job performance and bottom line profitability.
workshop, which will begin at 8:00am and run until 4:30pm, will be an engaging and immersive experience in the world of consumer behavior. Breakfast and lunch will be served and is included in your entry of just $35.
The upcoming Revenue Workshop is designed to do just that; to provide PGA Professionals with insight into the decision making and behavioral habits of golf consumers and the understanding of how to leverage that information through player development programming to develop a deeper level of engagement at their facility.
I know all too well how compressed your time is. If you are unable to join us, I urge you to have your assistants or other staff members join us. Because revenue generation is a facility wide discussion, this opportunity is open to your Membership, Officers, Board Members, Owners, and non PGA Professional golf industry personnel as well.
I encourage you to join us at The Ranch Country Club on January 12th for a full day Revenue Workshop delivered by the PGA of America's Senior Director of Player Development, Mike O'Donnell and myself. The
Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions regarding this opportunity.

JGAC to Launch 2017 Memberships Beginning January 3, 2017 T
he Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado has great things in preparation for its second season of Junior Development. Membership registration will open to the public starting on January 3, 2017. The 2017 membership will cost $100.00 and is valid for the calendar year. Members will have access to tournament registration in February and their GHIN number will be reactivated in March. If you have any juniors that are looking for the next step in competition then please think of the JGAC as their pathway to a higher level. Competition will be offered for all players between the ages of 6-18 at all handicap levels. Juniors will not need a JGAC membership to participate in activities such as PGA Junior League Golf, Drive, Chip and Putt, or any Golf in Schools Programs. For more information please visit www.juniorgolfcolorado.org .
List Your Junior Programs on JGAC Website T
is the season for PGA Professionals all over the Colorado Section to look at snow covered courses and dream of programs for next year. Deciding how to market your programs is always a tedious process but the Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado wants to help! The JGAC had over 120,000 website visits and over 500,000 impressions across all platforms in its first year. This is a great resource for PGA Professionals to grow their own programs using the JGAC exposure to market them to a tailored, target audience. We welcome you to fill out a simple form about your local programs and, upon approval; they will be featured on our website under the Camps and Clinics page. You can describe your facility and a general view of your Junior Development philosophy/approach. Detailed information will be on your website, to which consumers will be directed. Consider this your "elevator pitch" to sell your programs and to convince consumers to navigate to the link provided below your description to find out more and register for your programs. Once submitted, all program details and corresponding links will be evaluated for quality and content. Programs will go live on the JGAC Camps & Clinics page upon approval by JGAC staff. Program website details will be reviewed throughout the year for accuracy and content. If a program listing website is found to have out of date information, professionals will be contacted and given a 7 day window to update facility websites. One listing per facility will be allowed. So as you are watching the holiday snow fall on your dormant greens, make sure you take a few minutes and send your program into the JGAC so that we can include it on our website and help market you junior development! Junior Golf News
To Whom it May Concern... I would like to commend the new Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado in a fantastic first year. In the summer of 2015, my daughter Arielle played in a few state junior events. It was difficult to navigate and figure out which site for each tournament. There were different styles of how the tournaments were run. The new internet site was easy to navigate and worked very well (unusual for a first year). We were able to plan out Arielle’s schedule for the year. The “majors” were a great way to bring excitement though the season and differentiate the tournaments. The tournaments were run as well as any PGA section or USGA event I have played in. The volunteers for Rules were so good with the kids and truly helped them. The kids felt the officials were on “their” side and there to help them, which is so important at this age. The staff was also incredible with the kids. Keith, Ashley, Holly and Mikayla were consistently smiling and welcoming as well as very professional in all aspects of the operation. They remembered the names of the players (and even parents) and made them feel special and wanted. Everyone knows how bad parents can be with their kids, and yet, all the staff listened and even made adjustments if necessary. One would expect some “bumps” in the first year of any new program, but I did not see ANY. The Junior Golf Alliance of Colorado far exceeded my expectations. As a parent, I am truly excited in the difference from last year to this year. Our kids are treated very well and have a much better recruiting opportunity for colleges. As a PGA member, I could not be more proud of what we have done in this alliance. Congrats on a great initial season!
