It has made my job fun and enjoyable for sure!” With a career that spans twenty-five years, there are countless memories and experiences to be proud of. Don is most proud of all of them combined. “I am most proud about my tenure at Castle Pines and the relationships I have with our members and the staff I have had over the years. I hope they feel good about the leadership from me and how we do things here at the club.” Looking back at his career, Don broke it down rather simply. “I wasn’t sure which role as a Golf Professional I would fall into but I would not change anything I have done in my career. It has been great!”

President’s Message Summer Has Finally Arrived! Hello Fellow PGA Members & Apprentices, Summer has finally arrived and I hope all your facilities are busy! Once again, I am pleased to announce the newest Colorado PGA Reach Board of Trustee, Scott McGraw. Scott is the Vice President of Employee Benefits for the Cherry Creek Insurance Group. The support we continue to receive from the Colorado PGA Reach Trustees is a testimony on how committed they are to the Colorado Section PGA Membership and our effort to Growing the Game of Golf. Championship season has begun! It started with the 2015 PGA Professional National Championship at the famed Philadelphia Cricket Club in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It’s an honor and true accomplishment to qualify for this event and we should all be proud of the eight Colorado Section Members who are playing in this event. On a local level, the registration deadline for the Colorado Section Championship is Tuesday, July 7; the deadline for the Senior Section Championship is Tuesday, July 14, 2015; and the deadline for the Colorado Section Assistant’s Championship is Tuesday, July 21; don’t forget to register soon! It was a true honor and chance of a lifetime to be invited to the first KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and participate in the Leadership Summit at Westchester Country Club in Rye, New York. John Veihmeyer, Chairman of KPMG International presented the first-ever “Inspire Greatness Award” to Dr. Condoleezza Rice who also served as one of the key note speakers. It was very exciting to see the PGA of America logo at one of the LPGA Championships. The collaboration between KPMG, the LPGA Tour and the PGA of America has created a wonderful event and will continue to Inspire Greatness for years to come.

I
had an interesting experience recently. I, like probably most people, didn’t have to turn my irrigation system on at my house until just a week ago because of all the rain we have experienced. When I finally did charge up my system in late June, there were two leaks coming off of the irrigation backflow preventer. Knowing that I had better get this fixed quickly as the heat of the summer was on its way I called someone to come out and fix it. We had arranged to meet at my home inbetween a couple of meetings I had scheduled, he would give me an estimate, and if I approved he would fix the problem. He showed up promptly on time, identified the two problem areas and gave me a price quote. It was going to cost me $75 for the one problem and $30 for the other problem. I agreed, and headed inside to write him a check. I was inside for about 15 minutes and when I came outside to give him the check and rush off to my next meeting when he stated, “I hate to do this to you sir”, and honestly my first thoughts were “oh no, here we go”, but he continued, “I need you to write me another check”. He went on to explain that he replaced the one piece on the backflow preventer but he did not need to replace the coupler as he was able to tighten it down and stop the leak. Pleasantly surprised, I invited in for a drink of water while I made out a new check for him. You are probably asking yourself about now why I am sharing this with all of you. Besides it being embarrassing that I need someone to fix my irrigation system, for me there is a point to all this that I am coming to. Once inside my house he noticed our PGA logo on my shirt and asked if I played golf. After a brief conversation I found out that he is very passionate about the game and plays every chance he gets, and then it all came together for me.

Why Golf?!? to do with him being so honest and not overcharging me. I was on my way out the door to my next meeting and probably would have not noticed a thing as long as my irrigation system was fixed. In just about everything we do these days we are asked “what’s the why”? Why Golf? Because of the values the game teaches. Why Golf? Because it brings families and friends together. Why Golf? Because you get to enjoy the outdoors and breathe in the fresh air. Why Golf? Because it is a rehabilitation tool for our service men and women. Why Golf? Let me encourage you to share your why with me. We will compile all the input we receive and then post them in next month’s newsletter. Please send me your why at eainsworth@pgahq.com. I truly believe in the game of golf and all that it teaches and the opportunities it provides. I also truly believe in the power our PGA Professionals have to make a positive difference in the lives of others. You are making a difference.
Golfers are different. We respect the traditions of the game. We are taught values like integrity and honor. I’d like to believe that the game of golf had something

hope you’re tee sheets and lesson books were filled in the month of June. June was also an active month for the PGA of America with the following highlights. KPMG Women’s PGA Championship Applauded by Spectators, Business Leaders, & Players Collaboration being the foundation of success was never more apparent than the inaugural KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. With an increased purse, major network / broadcast coverage, a course befitting of a major championship, and a Women’s Leadership Summit, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship truly elevated the women’s game both on and off the course. Highlights from the week included: - Third round coverage marked the highest rating for any women’s major in the past 3 years - Players truly embraced the event – “Thanks @KPMGWomensPGA for raising the bar for women’s golf! Together we grow stronger @pgaofamerica @LPGA.” – Suzann Petterson - Condoleezza Rice received the first-ever “Inspire Greatness Award” at the KPMG Women’s Leadership Summit and also served as a keynote speaker at the summit. - Most number of Player Development consumer events ever held around a Championship with 16 clinic and community outreach events taking place over the week - Top eight finishers from the LPGA Teaching & Club Professional National Championship, including PGA of America women members who ranked among the eight positions Stacy Lewis summarized the week well - “It was an awesome week for us. This is just a steppingstone. I think there are going to be more good things to

come.” One of the “good things” was the announcement that Sahalee Country Club, located in Sammamish, Washington, will be the site of the 2016 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, marking the first time this major championship will be played in the Pacific Northwest. Sahalee Country Club, site of the 1998 PGA Championship and the 2010 U.S. Senior Open, becomes the second Washington state site to host a U.S. women’s major, following the inaugural U.S. Women’s Open in 1946, in Spokane. Michelle Wie Announced as Ambassador of PGA Junior League Golf Wie advanced in golf at an early age, inspired by her mother, Bo, who was the 1985 South Korean women’s amateur champion. Joined by defending PGA Champion Rory McIlroy, who was named PGA Junior League Golf ambassador in 2014, Wie will look to inspire youngsters to participate in PGA Junior League Golf and also encourage PGA and LPGA Professionals to host a team at their individual facilities. “It’s only natural that a fun team concept like PGA Junior League Golf has taken hold in just a few years,” said Wie. “For generations, boys and girls have grown up in team sports. To see how they can come together and learn golf through this program is most encouraging in shaping golf’s future.” PGA Learning Centers The PGA of America and the PGA TOUR recently unveiled the launch of their PGA Learning Centers, an innovative and dynamic golf instruction program
Bon Appetit “Champions of the Course” Platform The PGA of America and Bon Appétit have teamed up to create the “Champions of the Course” program which offers expert golf tips and techniques from top PGA Professionals and cooking inspiration from world-class chefs culminating in a VIP event at the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin. Leading up to the PGA Championship, Aug. 10-16, Bon Appétit and the PGA will collaborate on custom magazine content offering culinary tips and golf course advice pairing PGA Professionals with some of the country’s leading chefs such as Amanda Freitag, John Besh, Mike Lata, and Daniel Holtzman. Culminating on Aug. 12, the partnership comes to life as Bon Appétit Editor in Chief Adam Rapoport and PGA of America President Derek Sprague will host a golf-inspired Champions of the Course VIP event featuring A-list celebrity chef talent along with local Kohler chefs. Launch of “PGA Access” The PGA of America has partnered with TOUR GCX Partners (TOURGOLF) to create “PGA ACCESS,” a unique golf services program for PGA Corporate Partners and hospitality clients to play golf and entertain clients at private golf facilities run by PGA Professionals nationwide. As the exclusive provider of PGA ACCESS, TOURGOLF will deliver a turnkey golf participation program to all PGA Patrons, Official Partners and corporate hospitality buyers from PGA spectator events. that represents a true collaboration between the two associations, designed to engage new and existing players alike. The first learning centers launched in May at six inaugural locations in California. The cornerstone of the PGA Learning Centers is its progressive development format entitled “Explore, Improve, Advance” Private instruction, specialty clinics, and junior golf programs will also be offered. And all programs will be taught by PGA Learning Center-certified PGA teaching professionals.
“Setting Up Golf Courses for Success” Guidebook “Setting Up Golf Courses for Success,” an industrywide guidebook to course setup debuted on PGA.org and a hardcopy version will accompany select versions of the July issue of PGA Magazine. The collaborative guide contains new industry research and addresses a critical factor that inhibits enjoyment of the game for many women—golf course setups that are not tailored to the customer and their ability level. With women comprising nearly 40 percent of all new golfers in the United States, “Setting up Golf Courses for Success” focuses on their swing speeds and distance, serving to highlight the need for an alternative approach to course setup. Specific recommendations focus on tee positioning, nomenclature, retrofitting, the elimination of cross hazards and forced carries, and the long-term economic benefits of transitioning to shorter tees. Chase Sapphire Preferred Partnership Announced Chase Sapphire Preferred®, a premier rewards card from Chase designed to deliver unique experiences and exceptional service, and the PGA of America announced an official partnership. The multi-year partnership names Chase Sapphire as the official credit card of the PGA of America and the PGA Championship. This partnership will enable both PGA members and golf fans to experience the advantages Chase Sapphire offers its card members through its deep commitment to customer service. PGA Junior Series The PGA Junior Series debuted in 1996 and has been a stepping stone for PGA and LPGA stars such as Hunter Mahan, Sean O’Hair, Jason Day, Amelia Lewis, Luke Guthrie, Jennifer Johnson and Justin Thomas. The Series opened May 23rd at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida and concludes July 22nd at ArborLinks in Nebraska City, Nebraska. It is comprised of nine 54-hole competitive golf tournaments for boys and girls ages 12-18. All nine PGA Junior Series events serve as qualifiers for the 40th Junior PGA Championship presented by Under Armour & Genesis Networks on August 3-6, 2015 at Miramont Country Club in Bryan, Texas. MSR Update Cycle 14 A of the Professional Development Program ended as of June 15, 2015. The standard MSR requirement is 36 PGA Required Credits and 54 Total MSR Credits. It is anticipated that around 950 Members were transferred to Class F as of July 1, 2015, for failure to meet the MSR requirement. In order to be transferred out of Class F, these Members will need to earn the amount deficit, plus an equal amount of the new requirement. or the second year in a row, the Colorado PGA partnered with the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) FLAME program. FLAME, which stands for Finding Leaders Among Minorities Everywhere, is a program that provides diverse college and graduate-level students with a unique look into the world of elite sport. The eight-day program offers an exciting and rigorous curriculum designed to increase knowledge of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic movements. Accepted students participate in personal and professional development workshops in preparation for a career in sports. The golf instruction portion of the partnership was centered on a Drive, Chip & Putt theme. Participants of the program were given instruction during the first day at The Broadmoor Golf Club that centered on each of the three specific skills. The second day of instruction
was held at The First Tee of Colorado Springs and included a Drive, Chip & Putt competition.
“It’s great to see the sports industry’s next generation learning the game,” noted Keith Soriano, Director of Player Development of the Colorado PGA said. “What they learn through this partnership is something that they will hopefully use the rest of their lives.” The partnership between the two organizations came about in 2013 following the USOC Diversity and Inclusion Symposium, sponsored by the PGA of America. From that meeting grew an Employee Talent Development program for USOC staff and with the addition of golf to the Olympics, inclusion of golf instruction into the FLAME program.

Golden Circle 2.0 I
n my role as Player Development Director, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting with many of our Members of the past few years to discuss your Player Development and facility operations. I’ve learned far more than I’ve taught, though I’ve tried my best to share with our Members those ideas and practices that have proven to be effective both in my own experience and in my discoveries with other Members.
Then I met Ariana Freidlander of Rosabella Consulting. Ariana joined me for a meeting with Scott Szymoniak, PGA General Manager at Fort Collins Country Club. She is an organizational guru and Scott credits her with helping to build teamwork and collaboration throughout his club. As Ariana and I volleyed back and forth about leadership, inspiration, and communication as it relates to getting current golfers more engaged and introducing new golfers to our great game. She asked me if I saw anything missing from the Golden Circle. As I mulled it over, she asked a poignant question: Is everyone’s WHY the same? It was then clear that if the WHY depended upon WHO you were communicating with, then the Golden Circle should look like this:
During most, if not all of those conversations, I’ve shared Simon Sinek’s concept of the Golden Circle, more commonly known as “Start With Why” (Click Here to Learn More). The concept of the Golden Circle is simple, and looks like this:
The reason that you and your team should build its foundation on WHO is that every business exists to serve the needs of other individuals. Bring who you serve and the problem or need that you solve (consumer retention and acquisition) to the forefront of your team’s consciousness. By doing so, you focus efforts on the most important thing – meeting customer needs – and by monitoring and adapting your operation to those needs, you create a nimble team that adapts and innovates. Once your WHO is defined, you must marry the WHO with a powerful WHY — a set of internal beliefs that flow from within the team to outside in the world. Think WHO, Then WHY, HOW, and WHAT.
The model contends that great organizations create their foundation by first addressing WHY they exist, then HOW they go about their mission, and finally, WHAT they do. It’s a simple, powerful message about communication with Members, Guests, Students, and New Golfers. I’ve shared this theory over and over again, and I believed in its message.

o say that 2015 has been more successful year for ColoradoPGATeeTimes.com than 2014, would be an understatement. So far in 2015, the website has seen dramatic improvements over 2014. In just the first month of the digital campaign, 247 reservations were made, accounting for 596 rounds of golf and nearly $30,000 in green fee revenue. Compare that to 225 reservations, 497 rounds in 2014 and $22,000 in green fee revenue for all of 2014. The alliance was originally created as a means to counteract tee time providers who were taking advantage of their ability and scope of business to take advantage of individual golf course owners. More simply, the alliance was put in place to enable our Colorado PGA Professionals to enter the online tee-time marketplace through an affordable, cutting edge avenue. ColoradoPGATeeTimes.com currently has sixteen facilities involved with the tee time alliance. That includes courses from the City of Aurora, the City of Lakewood, and many more. New for 2015, the digital marketing campaign has been implemented to promote and market the site. Compo-

Additionally, smaller digital campaigns for each of the facilities involved have been developed and are geo targeted to their specific locations. “I’m extremely excited to see the success so far in 2015, especially with the new digital campaign” noted Eddie Ainsworth, Colorado PGA Executive Director. “We really seemed to have found a good avenue to promote the online site and will look to focus our reach as the campaign progresses.”

The PGA of America Endorses NGCOA Guidelines for Online Tee Times A
s PGA of America Officers and Executive Staff visited PGA Sections over the last year, a recurring theme arose from many members in attendance: A critical need exists for standardization and education in the public golf sector regarding best practices for owners/ operators who work with third-party, online tee time providers. Right at the heart of the matter is the fact that online reservations are a widely-accepted means for consumers to shop for and reserve many things in life, including tee times. While approximately 25 percent of tee times are booked online today, a look to the hotel industry shows that nearly 75 percent of room nights are now booked online. That is an inevitable consumer trend that will quickly move to mobile bookings as well. Yet, with third parties involved, price discrepancies for available inventory have created issues and frustration for PGA Professionals looking to maintain price integrity for their tee times. In addition, force bundling of tee time services with point-of-sale systems can be problematic, as it limits choice for owners and operators. In collaboration with the National Golf Course Owners Association (NGCOA), who issued the new Guidelines, the PGA of America is proactively taking steps to help reverse the trend of decreasing tee time value in the public golf sector. By endorsing a comprehensive set of Third Party Tee Time Guidelines issued by the NGCOA; working with those companies that voluntarily adopt these new standards; and embracing an active role in educating PGA members on how to benefit from both online and mobile tee-time booking, the PGA will look to drive substantive, positive growth across the golf industry. "These are tools and a framework to assist in making informed and independent decisions when working with online agents," says Linda Rogers, NGCOA past president and owner of Juday Creek Golf Club in Granger, Indiana. "Having worked diligently in the field with many online agents and software providers, we’re highly confident the guidelines will be incorporated into agreements that allow owners to be in control of
16
their individual pricing and will mitigate confusion in the marketplace."
"The rising tide of golf technology should lift all boats," explains PGA of America Chief Commercial Officer Jeff Price. "It is incumbent upon all PGA Professionals to use technology to the benefit of their facilities, in order to influence positive change in this area. It is also important to note that the only stake the PGA of America has in the online tee-time booking space is to help PGA members understand the technology; make it work for them; and promote a healthy, competitive marketplace. There is no direct financial benefit to the PGA of America." "Tee times are the fuel that power billions of dollars in revenue for golf courses," says Mike Hughes, CEO of the NGCOA. "Proper education and management of that inventory is critical to optimizing yield in every channel of tee time distribution, particularly in growing online and mobile bookings. It also benefits all segments of vendors which sell into golf." The guidelines represent an important first step in driving substantive change in the public golf sector. The key is to make the technology work for the membership – and the PGA is creating ways to help its members do just that with plans for workshops, webinars, phone support and more.
T
he wet spring has certainly knocked down the chance of wild fires in Colorado this year, there is another fire taking off across the state. That fire is PGA Jr League Golf! In 2014 there were 8 teams and 2 leagues in the state with approximately 80 kids taking part in the program. in 2015, there are now teams participating and 9 leagues operating throughout Colorado. “It’s great to see all of our PGA Professionals get behind this junior golf initiative,” noted Keith Soriano, Colorado PGA Player Development Director. “I was
fortunate enough to see the finals last year in Georgia and I am thrilled to see the same excitement happening here in Colorado.” PGA Jr League Golf (PGAJLG) is the golfs version of Little League. PGAJLG is designed to better socialize the game for boys and girls, ages 13 and under. PGA JLG features team vs. team competitions in structured leagues that provide a popular, less stressful scramble format as opposed to stroke-play competition. This is a great way to get kids involved in the game!

Ask the Experts?!
“What has been your favorite part of PGA Junior League Golf so far this season?” Anthony Vitale, PGA Assistant Professional Colorado Golf Club “I have really enjoyed seeing our juniors develop a passion for the game and for friendly competition. More than any junior camp, putting players in a competitive atmosphere helps them focus more on each shot and swing with a purpose. Watching some of the younger kids jump to high five the older kids after hitting a good shot is a great sight to see.”
Casey Brittain, PGA Assistant Professional Cherry Hills Country Club “The PGA Junior League has been an absolute highlight for Cherry Hills this summer. It’s a new program for our facility but we generated a lot of interest by publishing an article in our bimonthly newsletter highlighting the benefits of the program. I thought it may be a challenge to recruit a team but we ended up with 23 players, many being brothers and sisters. I think one of the best quotes I heard from a player was, “We get numbers on our golf polos? COOL!”

Head Professional Fitzsimons Golf Course “Energy! Whether it’s the junior players, their families, host sites, our section or from a national perspective, there is a very real energy in all aspects of our PGA Junior League. As a coach, I appreciate most the camaraderie that has been developed over the course of this season.”

Mike Mendelson, PGA Director of Golf City of Grand Junction “My favorite part of PGA Jr. League has been hearing parents say that this is something that they were looking for. Everyone has been excited about getting this going in the Grand Valley.”
Cameron Morton, PGA Head Professional Lake Valley Golf Club “My favorite thing about the Junior League so far would be both the support for the kids from parents and coaches as well as the camaraderie it has created amongst the teammates. Seeing them help each other line up putts, suggest clubs, point to places to aim, high five after good shots, raucously cheer win they win a hole, etc. I have attached a few pictures that show all of the people that come with each group. It has been really cool to see. I keep saying it is like a PGA Tour event!”

Lesson from the Pro’s! Trent Wearner, PGA E
verybody likes to hit the driver well and for good reason – you’ve got to get off to a good start on each hole keeping the ball in play. It’s just as important that you learn to practice correctly. There are very few golfers who even come close to practicing effectively and in a manner that helps them find success on the course. Matter of a fact, most golfers are practicing in a manner that sets them up for failure as soon as they set foot on the course. So next time you’re out on the range practicing, make you practice realistically by following the exercise below. Then take a look at our practice website called golfscrimmages.com to take your game to a new level. Imaginary Fairway Game: On the range, make out a fairway either with the flags on the range, objects in the background, or anything else that can represent a left and right border. Make the imaginary fairway as close to 30 yards wide. Since there are typically 14 par fours and fives on most golf courses, you’ll be hitting 14 drives, however you CANNOT hit 14 in a row. You must hit some other club in between each of those 14 drives. Making it more realistic by alternating between your driver and some other club as well as putting time in between your shots and adding score to your practices makes the work you’re putting in much more beneficial and true to playing. On www.golfscrimmages.com you can enter the number of drives out of 14 that end up in your
imaginary fairway and see a Leaderboard for each game as well as compare scores to others in your age group, your gender, a handicap range that is better than you and more. Bring the elements found on the course to practice, do something realistic every time you practice and you’ll be doing something great Trent Wearner is a two-time for your game!

Tournaments Cliff, Augustine & Billinger Take Pro-Pro-Pro Championship R
egardless of the event format or the team makeup, Graham Cliff seems to have a knack for finding his way to the top of the leaderboard this year. Cliff, the PGA Head Professional at Colorado Golf Club has finished first or tied for first in four of seven events and has posted top-5 finishes in all but one start. It should come as no surprise then that Cliff partnered with Erik Billinger and Dan Augustine to win the 2015 Pro-Pro-Pro Championship presented by Masek Golf Cars, the PGA Tour, Antigua, and Fairway Promotions. The team started strong as they played their first seven holes seven-under-par. “We got off to a fast start by making a couple of keys putts early on from six to twelve feet, combined with hitting a couple approach shots really close,” Billinger, the PGA Head Coach of the University of Denver Men’s Golf team, said of the start of their round. “It was stress free as our Graham never really had to putt.” They did run into difficulties though starting at the par-3 ninth. The group would par three consecutive holes to fall back to the field a bit. “Erik gave us a good pep talk and we were back in business,” noted Augustine, an Assistant Professional at The Country Club at Castle Pines. “I don’t think you can every worry about scores playing golf, we just got back to being relaxed and having fun. The team got back on track and finished their last eight holes eight-under-par, including an eagle at the par-5 fourteenth hole. “We had no number in mind” said Cliff of their goal to start the day. “Our goal was to birdie every hole and see what happened.”
Coming in tied for second on the day at fourteen-under-par 57 were two teams. Caine Fitzgerald, PGA Assistant Professional at Meadow Hills Golf Course partnered with Dane Reese and Ryan Wroblewski, both Assistant Professionals at The Pinery and Jason Brandt, PGA General Manager at The Links Golf Course partnered with Rob Hunt, PGA Head Professional at The Links Golf Course and Andrew Hedrick, PGA Head Professional at The Club at Pradera. Thank you to our host professional, Director of Golf George Karhrhoff and the membership of the Golf Club at Ravenna for hosting the event. Cliff Leads Team to Victory at National Car Rental Pro Am Series J
ohn Wooden, the famed UCLA basketball coach once said that “winning takes talent, to repeat takes character.” Graham Cliff, the PGA Head Professional at Colorado Golf Club and his team must certainly have character as they won the National Car Rental Pro Am Series (Pro-Lady Championship) for the second year in a row on June 8, 2015. Cliff led his team of Michelle Carroll, Traci Brady, and Sara Kellogg to an impressive 32-under-par 110 in the two-low-net shamble format. “The team played great!!!” noted Cliff after the round was over. “One of the keys was easily the team make up. These ladies all play together at Colorado Golf Club all the time and they are great friends. So they were very comfortable playing together.” He went on to say, “the shamble is an absolute blast for our ladies, mostly because they don’t hit the ball that far off of the tees. They are use to a drive, followed by a fairway wood and then an iron into almost all of the greens. With the format allowing them to use my drives, they are now putting for net eagles on a lot of the holes.” Coming in second place in the team event was the team led by Caine Fitzgerald, PGA Assistant Professional at Meadow Hills Golf Course who fired a 28-under-par 114. Fitzgerald partnered with longtime teammates Karin Rivale, Jody Miller, and Kelli Poppenhagen. Finishing in third place was PGA Head Professional Chris Johnson of The Pinery Country Club who partnered with Danielle Atkinson, Shelly Duffy, and Robin Asbury to post a 27-under-par 115. In the individual Professional-only event, Cliff tied with Ute Creek Golf Course Director of Instruction Tray Shehee at three-under-par 68. Johnson posted a
third place finish by firing a two-under-par 69 and was followed by Tara Morris, PGA Assistant Professional at The Country Club at Castle Pines who shot an even-par 71. Doug Perry, PGA Head Professional at City Park 9 Golf Course in Ft. Collins was the low finisher in the “50 for 50” event as he posted a one-over-par 72. The Colorado PGA would like to thank National Car Rental for their support of this event and their continued support of the National Car Rental Pro Am Series and PGA Professionals across the country. The Colorado PGA would also like to thank the host PGA Head Professional CJ Parry, his staff, and the membership of Glenmoor Country Club for hosting the event.
Rohrbaugh Making Inroads on Champions Tour Doug Rohrbaugh, PGA Head Professional at Ironbridge Golf Club posted his second-best finish on the 2015 Champions Tour at the Principal Charity Classis in Iowa. Rohrbaugh, who has conditional status on the Champions Tour, was making his third start of the season. Overall, Rohrbaugh has earned more than $43,000 on the season. Rorhbaugh also competed in the 2015 US Senior Open held June 25-28, 2015 at Del Paso Country Club in Sacramento, California. Rohrbaugh, who gained entry
30
into the event at a Sectional Qualifier at Cherry Creek Country Club, posted rounds of 72-74 - 146 to miss the cut by one stroke. The Senior Open was the second major championship Rohrbaugh has competed in this year on the Senior Tour having also earned his way into the Senior PGA Championship.

t’s difficult to compete on a golf course when a player is completely unfamiliar with the layout. It’s even more difficult to win on a course that when a player is completely unfamiliar with the layout. Geoff Keffer, PGA Assistant Professional at Aurora Hills Golf Course did just that at the Ft. Collins Country Club Pro Am as he fired a one-under-par 70 to win the event on Monday, June 22, 2015. Keffer credited his short game in overcoming the lack of experience with the course. “I didn’t hit it particularly well,” he noted after the event. “I missed a lot of greens and hit it in the water once but I made a lot of really good par saving putts and up and downs. I just hung in on an unfamiliar course.” The win marked Keffer’s third victory of the year, having won a Stroke Play event at Indian Peaks Golf Course and the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame Pro Am. Coming in second was Blake Sharamitaro, PGA Assistant Professional at Lake Arbor Golf Course who posted an even-par 71. A group of four players finished tied for third at two-over-par 73. They were; Doug Perry, PGA Head Professional at City Park 9 Golf Course, Andrew Hebert, Assistant Professional at Indian Peaks Golf Course, Dan O’Shaughnessy, PGA Head Professional at Fitzsimons Golf Course, and Caine Fitzgerald, PGA Assistant Professional at Meadow Hills Golf Course. Keffer not only posted a first place finish in the Professional Division, he led his team to a tie for first place. Keffer partnered with Lonnie Barnhouse, Jeff Cooley, and Greg Deleeuw to post a thirteen-under-par 129.

Keffer Takes Title at Ft. Collins CC Pro Am
“My teams usually do well because we have a lot of fun with each other and never let any one member get down even,” Keffer said of his team efforts. “I make it a point to never tell them when or where they get shots or how well we are doing. My team philosophy is we go play have a ton of fun and add it up at the end. It’s worked well for me and my teams.” Keffer’s team tied with Hebert’s team, which consisted of Hebert, Bob Judish, Willard Smith, and Tom Bowman. In the 50 for 50 Senior Division, Doug Perry of City Park 9 Golf Course fired a two-over-par 73 to to wint the opt-in content. Thank you to Scott Szymoniak, PGA General Manager, the PGA Professional staff, and the membership of Ft. Collins Country Club for hosting the event.
Colorado PGA Retains Senior Colorado Cup For the first time in the forty-five year history of the Colorado Cup, Mother Nature was the ultimate victor at this years event. A severe storm that included gale force winds, torrential rain, and a tornado just miles from the course, put an end to the day during the afternoon singles matches, limiting the event to only the morning Four-Ball Matches.
The Colorado PGA still leads the overall series in the open division 30-13, with two ties, though the CGA has prevailed the last two years. The all-time Senior Division series is tied 15-15, with three ties, but the pros have gone 8-1-1 in the last 10 meetings.
In the end, the CGA won the Open Division with a 4-2 victory, while the Colorado PGA retained the Senior Division Cup after ending in a 3-3 tie.

Gott a Win? Brian Does! I
t usually takes some time to get accustomed to a
new golf course. For Brian Gott, that evidently wasn’t very long as he posted a victory at the Ridge at Castle Pines North Pro Am presented by the Colorado Chevy Dealers and Infinium Spirits on Monday, June 29, 2015. The Ridge, hosting a Pro Am for the first time in recent memory, proved to be a stern test. Gott handled it well as he posted five birdies in route to a one-under-par 70. “I played really well today. I struck the ball solid and I didn’t make any mistakes,” Gott noted of his win. “I also made a lot of putts; it’s easy to read these greens now that I am using AimPoint.” Coming in second place was Rick Cole, PGA Head Professional at Eaton Country Club. Cole played the par-5’s in three-under-par in posting an even-par 71 to take second place and first place in the 50 for 50 Senior Division. Graham Cliff, PGA Head Professional at Colorado Golf Club and Bill Hancock, PGA Head Professional at Littleton Golf and Tennis both posted one-over-par 72 to tie for third place. Travis Morton, PGA Head Professional at The Pinery Country Club led his team to victory in the team event. Morton partnered with his father, Dan Morton, Chris Crosby, and Dane Hamilton to post a 19-under-par 128
In the 50 for 50 Senior Division, Cole took home the title. He was followed in second place by Smigelsky who posted a two-over-par 73.
