Madeline Jazz Harvey, Associate Professor and CSU Dance Lab Founder/ Director, is a dance educator, choreographer, and performer specializing in classical and contemporary ballet. She performed professionally with Charlotte Ballet from 2004-2010, with Carolina Ballet Theatre under Hernan Justo from 2010-2017, and joined Judy Bejarano’s Impact Dance Company in 2018. Madeline’s choreography has been featured in concerts and festivals across the nation. Her creative research investigates play as a paradigm for choreographic process. Her choreographic résumé includes over 50 original works created for various professional and collegiate venues. Human connection and vulnerability drive her choreographic process. She values collaboration and is honored to have co-created works with composers, musicians, visual artists, and community members of South Carolina and Colorado. Madeline holds a BA and Professional Training Certificate in Dance from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and an MFA in Choreography from Jacksonville University. Recent projects examine the artistry of parenting through dance. For example, she serves as the Principal Investigator for ongoing research study, Movement Through Parenthood, which examines the efficacy of an original EA based dance intervention for improving emotional availability and wellbeing from pregnancy through postpartum. This project was awarded an Engaged Scholarship Research/Creative Activities Grant from the Engagement Scholarship Consortium in 2022.

Grace Cooper holds a BA in Dance and a BA in English from Colorado State University. Grace is a member of Alpine Artist Collective and has danced for IMPACT Dance Company and The Heartbeat Ballet. Additionally, Grace enjoys teaching beginning adult classes at Impulse Dance and Fitness. When she’s not dancing, Grace loves coffee, poetry, and hikes.

Layla McRae is a dancer, choreographer, and educator. Currently completing her BFA in dance at Colorado State University, she continues to dive into new ways to move and create in different spaces. Gaining experience in all areas including performing, teaching and choreography is an ongoing goal and process to better spread her passion for dance. She enjoys sharing the way dance can fuel both body and mind with new dancers and seasoned dancers alike. Layla has taught at various schools in Colorado, educating students of all ages in Contemporary, Modern, Ballet, Musical Theater, and Improvisation. Layla’s choreographic portfolio includes “Phrenophobia”, “Arcturus”, “I am Jazz”, “5,408”, and her upcoming work for CSU’s Fall 2024 Dance Capstone Concert.

Madison Hard is a dancer, educator, and creator. She is completing her B.F.A in Dance and minor in Business Administration at Colorado State University. She has been trained in various styles of dance including, Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Musical Theatre, Contemporary, Hip Hop, and Open Styles. Her passion and drive to share the art of dance through teaching and performing expands as she continues to explore new ways of moving and creating.

Francesca Genovese, a native of Rochester, NY, began training with the Deborah MacKay School of Dance and continued through the American Academy of Ballet, in Amherst, NY, as well as on full scholarship at the Garth Fagan School. In 2004 she began her professional career in Greenville, SC with Carolina Ballet Theater, and became a resident choreographer with the company in 2009. In addition to her work with CBT, Francesca began freelancing nationally as a dancer, teacher and choreographer with companies such as Configuration Dance Theater, Olney Ballet Theater and most recently with Newport Contemporary Ballet. Francesca returned to Rochester to finish out her performance career with Rochester City Ballet, retiring in 2019. She has served as an Adjunct faculty member in the dance department at Nazareth College, and now teaches dance full time at Renaissance Academy Charter School for the Arts. Francesca is thrilled to return for her second year teaching and choreographing at CSU Dance Lab.

Brianna Smith is originally from Broomfield, CO and danced at DanceSpace from 2015-2021 as a part of their competition company. Along with her competition pieces, she was a part of the dance film GIMME SOME, choreographed by Kelly Demelio. Brianna also choreographed for DanceSpace’s Young Choreographer’s Showcase from 2019-2021. She is currently training at Colorado State University pursuing her BA in Dance. During her time at CSU, Brianna has performed in numerous dance concerts and senior capstone shows. Her contemporary group piece, La Douleur Exquise, was selected for the 2023 Fall Dance Concert and nominated to represent CSU at the American College Dance Association regional conference. Brianna is a Jane Sullivan scholarship recipient and has been on the CSU Dean’s List. Outside of dance, she is pursuing a degree in political science and is a College of Liberal Arts Ambassador. Outside of CSU, she has been a substitute dance teacher for Studio West Dance Center and DanceSpace. Upon graduation, Brianna hopes to join a traveling professional dance company as a dancer and choreographer and eventually attend law school. She would like to thank her family and Fort Collins community for their unwavering encouragement and support. She is grateful for her professors and peers at CSU for pushing her to be her best self.

Julia Cooper-Pelkey began her career in Fort Collins, Colorado as a Canyon Concert Ballet Company member, working with a variety of artists including Lorita Travaglia and Bobby Ball. She earned her B.F.A. from The University of Wyoming, under the direction of Jennifer Deckert, Lawrence Jackson, Marsha Knight, Margaret Wilson, and Aaron Wood. She has studied with companies such as American Repertory Theatre, Trey McIntyre Project, Alonzo King Lines Ballet, Repertory Dance Theatre, Ririe Woodberry, and Complexions Contemporary Ballet.

Julia spent two years dancing in New York City performing with Ballet Inc. and Sheep Meadow Dance Theatre, which involved a variety of venues, including the Battery Dance Festival. During her time in the city she taught a wide variety of ages in dance and acting, working with Four Corners Creative and The Peridance School. Julia also had the opportunity to guest with several photographers, working both as a dancer and model. Julia completed her M.F.A. in dance choreography from The University of Iowa. During her three years at Iowa, she expanded her choreographic research with a focus on historical context, the use of narrative, and an emphasis on human connection. Julia is now an instructor at Colorado State University in the dance department. Her academic teaching history includes ballet, pointe, jazz, musical theatre, tap, modern, yoga, dance history, and dance kinesiology.

Grace Gallagher is an educator, dancer, and creator. Her creative research and engaged scholarship focus on inclusivity, access, and the power of community, specifically related to Dance Education. Grace has taught Modern, Ballet, Pedagogy, Repertory, Outreach and Engagement, Understanding Dance, Hip Hop, Contemporary, and Jazz, among others. She has taught at Arizona State University and Front Range Community College and is currently an assistant professor of Dance at Colorado State University.

Additionally, Grace has extensive experience as a guest teaching artist and choreographer in numerous contexts, including guest teaching at public and private universities, community colleges, and high schools, teaching at hundreds of studios nationwide, hosting professional master classes and workshops, serving as a faculty member on a national convention, and working for two separate non-profit programs that utilize dance as an emotional outlet for underserved youth. Grace has created four original evening-length works; CONSequence, 40 Love Letters, Juxtaposition, and Re-late, as well as had her work shown at Nasty Woman|Phoenix Unite, ArtelPHX, Phoenix Center for the Art’s Beta Dance Festival, Breaking Ground Dance Festival, and American College Dance Festival. Grace has earned over a dozen choreography awards and has more than a decade of professional dance experience. Grace holds a B.F.A. in Dance and an M.F.A. in Dance, a Graduate Certificate in Dance Teaching

Artist Praxis, and a PreK-12 Dance Teaching Certification from the Arizona Department of Education. Additionally, Grace interned at Broadway Dance Center in New York City and was an Edge Performing Arts Scholar in Los Angeles, California.

Alpine Artist Collective (AAC) is a multi-disciplinary team of artists, united by a shared love for the natural world. Their mission is to connect humans to nature through art, and they believe in the power of art to inspire action. AAC artists play a key role in communicating environmental issues in a way that helps audiences connect emotionally to nature, climate change, and other environmental challenges faced today. AAC performances and events offer transformative experiences, and members of the collective create, teach, and perform across the front range of Colorado.
