CSU MARCHING BAND

A CENTURY OF

TRADITION THE CSU MARCHING BAND ACTS AS A REPRESENTATIVE OF OUR UNIVERSITY, SUPPORTS OUR ATHLETIC TEAMS, AND ENTERTAINS FANS WHILE BUILDING ON THE TRADITION OF RAM PRIDE. OUR STUDENTS FORGE LIFELONG FRIENDSHIPS AND ENDURING SKILLS THROUGH THEIR DEDICATION AND HARD WORK IN SERVICE OF COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY.

The CSU Marching Band is a big part of the game-day traditions. From the time we arrive, when they march with us into the stadium on Ram Walk, to the postgame tradition when we join with them for the fight song and the alma mater, they are a big part of our game-day experience and we are extremely thankful for all of the talent and energy they provide to us and our fans. — MIKE BOBO CSU FOOTBALL HEAD COACH

ALMA MATER Hail to Thee, our Alma Mater, Colorado State. Memories are everlasting, of this place so great. May thy Green and Gold unite us, Loyal ever be. Colorado State, our Alma Mater, Hail, All Hail to Thee!

FIGHT SONG Fight on you stalwart Ram Team, On to the goal! Tear the (opponent’s) line asunder, As down the field we thunder! Knights of the Green and Gold, Fight with all your might! Fight on you stalwart Ram Team, Fight! Fight! Fight! Go Rams!

Our History The original 13-member band at Colorado State was formed in 1901, two years after football became a regularly scheduled sport. From this humble beginning, CSU is now home to a marching band with more than 260 members who exemplify our “Proud to be a CSU Ram” motto.

Our Alumni Each year, alumni from across the country gather during Homecoming and Family Weekend for the Alumni Marching Band reunion. Whether you’re a recent or seasoned graduate, join us for this special celebration of our traditions, and connect with old friends.

I have a LOT of fond memories of my days with the CSU Marching Band when I was at school from ‘78 to ‘82. Participating with the alumni band has allowed me to add to those great memories! — CRAIG WILKENING, ‘82

FIGHT SONG: This song is the heart of our pregame show and a

declaration of pride in our university. When the band plays it, stand up, clap, and sing along!

SPELL YELL: This is our second fight song – a traditional tune that

includes a break in the middle where we spell out “R-A-M-S, Rams!”

NATIONAL ANTHEM: We play tribute to our great country with “The

Star-Spangled Banner,” as ROTC cadets present our nation’s colors on the 50-yard line. Enjoy the anthem at the traditional military tempo.

ALMA MATER: We honor our school – and the thousands of alumni who have come before us – with this cherished song. Let the Green and Gold unite us as we sing together.

AGGIE BOOM SONG: The block “A” on the field is a throwback to when we

were the Colorado A&M “Aggies,” and mirrors the giant “A” that is re-painted each fall on the hillside above Fort Collins.

FIGHT SONG (REPRISE): We end the pregame show with a final time

through our Fight Song as we anticipate the team running onto the field on their way to another victory!

WHAT IT TAKES Maneuvering around the field and stadium, with up to 50 pounds of additional weight, requires physical strength and endurance.

The high-waisted jacket, in combination same-colored pants, and topped with white shoulder panels, hat, and plume, creates a look of athleticism and stature. With its history in medieval armor, the gauntlet is a flared cuff that covers the juncture of the glove and jacket.

Studies have found that during particularly strenuous parts of marching band shows, players heart rates can peak over 200 bpm! According to CalorieLab, a 150-pound student burns 2100 additional calories – the equivalent of a large pepperoni pizza – during one day of pre-season rehearsal. Band students arrive on campus a week before the start of school in order to learn the pregame and halftime shows. The band rehearses as a group three times per week for two hours. Game day is an eight-hour event starting five hours before kickoff. Band members will cover about 15,000 steps – over 7 miles – over the course of the day. CSU Marching Band members also perform in the Presidential Pep Band and the Basketball Pep Band, continuing the band’s outreach throughout the school year. Band students come from every college on campus, and in 2016, more than 80% of the band came from a major outside of music.

WORN WITH RAM PRIDE

Colorado State University ce of excellence, and the CSU Marching s proud to be a symbol of that quality. hin the band, we have created a music ty built on respect and diversity, as we k together to entertain our audiences. — KARLA ROGERS CSU DRUM MAJOR

The uniform pants are known as bibs or bibbers, and have over-the-shoulder straps that prevent the pants from moving while marching. Special shoes, with a rolled-heel, enhance good marching technique.

Snowcapped is the theme of our uniforms, designed in 2007 and reimagined for 2015. From the spruce green pants to the sense of snowcapped peaks created by the white shoulders leading to the tip of the white-feather plume, the uniform is a tribute to our home on the Front Range. As the symbol of our university, the Ram’s Head logo is prominent on the front of the jacket. The icon is repeated three other times on the uniform: embroidered once on each sleeve, and a final time under the jacket, over the band member’s heart. The repetition of the Ram’s Head logo and the word RAMS on the back, brands the uniform as Colorado State University from every direction. We honor CSU’s history as Colorado A&M with uniform options in the throwback colors of pumpkin and alfalfa.

The Marching Band embodies the spirit of Colorado State University and represents the true meaning of what it means to say:
