Take White trail for 0.15 miles to ST (Scenic Trail)/SRT (Lilac colored trail markers), taking a le for 0.1 miles, passing Mud Pond. •Return the same route, which is a 4.5+ mile return trip. (Special Note: these trails are not “well-marked” and the brown and purple markers are di cult to see on the various trees.) Refer to NYNJTC Trail Map 104 and NYS Minnewaska State Park Preserve Trail Map Difficulty/Length: DIFFICULT 9.0+ round trip (excludes any additional side trips) Highlights include a less-traveled section of Minnewaska State Park Preserve that local groups saved from becoming a residential area and visiting one of the less-visited Sky Lakes, Haseco Lake, now known as Mud Pond. A stop at Thoreau Falls, which is 0.55 miles from the intersection of Awosting Reserve Loop (Purple), is also possible. Options: Various longer versions of this hike can include visiting to Verkeerder Kill Falls (west of Mud Pond), Murray Hill, Lake Awosting, and Margaret Cli (to the North). Tillson Lake is a 22-acre lake part of Minnewaska State Park and an option for a short hike, picnicking, fishing, and kayaking/canoeing – launch available at the lake. Parking is at Tillson Lake Parking Area, Lake Road (o Tillson Lake Road, from South Mountain Road) before getting to the Awosting Reserve parking area. Traveling to Awosting Reserve using Lake Road o ers panoramic views of the Shawangunk Ridge. “Getting to know the GUNKS” This area is lesser-known but so spectacular and worth visiting. What is also quite impressive is how the local community fought to keep this area public and natural. The Palmaghatt Kill borders this area on the east, and sections are visible along the trail.
