ULSTER COUNTY 4-H

“There are so many memories, but one of my favorites is of the milkshake booth. I remember waiting with such anticipation for the day when I was finally old enough and TALL enough to work the booth. It was worth the wait! And I still use the recipe for the Tuna Apple Salad that I learned from my 4-H leader. It was a great place to learn and grow. (P.S. Now I’m going to the milkshake booth…)”

Cheryl Alloway, from a quote she provided in 2002 about her memories as a lifetime 4-H’er.

4-H has been at the Ulster County Fair for over nine decades, and 4-H youth and their families are excited for another year of fun, learning, sharing their love for animal, and of course, the famous 4-H milkshakes! Every year, the youth involved in Cornell Cooperative Extension’s 4-H Positive Youth Development Program display their projects, show their animals, and present what they’ve been working on since the last Fair. The Youth Building is the place to be to learn what 4-H is all about: making the best better! The County’s various 4-H clubs will have projects on display, including arts and handicrafts, STEM experiments, 3D printing, and more. The youth who raised animals will show off how to care for furred and feathered friends and maintain their wellbeing. Those who participated in Public Presentations will deliver their engaging talks live on stage. 4-H and Extension Educators will be on-hand to answer questions and help your family find the 4-H activities they’ll love. Also, stop by the 4-H Snack Bar for this year’s $8 Meal Deal. Each meal includes an all-beef hot dog, an ear of corn, a snack (chip, cookies, Italian ice) and a drink.

4-H will have its usual full lineup of activities including Teen Council Milkshake Booth and Snack Bar, open daily at 10 a.m.; there is a 4-H Dog show, 4 p.m., at the pavilion and a Weigh Auction of Large Animal Classes including turkey in the swine barn, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2; Rabbit Showmanship and Breed Show, at 10 a.m. in the pavilion, Paper Rockets, at 1 p.m. in the youth building, and small animal auction/judging, at 6:30 p.m., in the pavilion, Wednesday, Aug. 3; Goat Showmanship and Breed Show, at 9 a.m., Ozobots, 11 a.m., youth building; Beef Cow Showmanship and Breed Show, at noon, and Swine
