Dear Jungle Explorer/Guest, It is my pleasure to welcome you to La Selva Amazon Ecolodge, a unique lodge in the heart of the Ecuadorian Amazon. We have recently remodeled the lodge, converting it into a Premium Ecolodge, upgrading the level of accommodations in order to offer an authentic jungle experience in comfort. Our highly-trained and professional staff will be happy to assist you with any of your needs or answer any questions you may have. Enclosed in this booklet you will find all the necessary information about your jungle stay. We hope this will be a memorable trip and that you enjoy your visit at La Selva Amazon Ecolodge. LODGE INFORMATION

EVERY DAY BRIEFINGS

BAR

Every night your guide will give you a briefing about the next day’s activities. They will let you know what to bring and what you will need to use. Your guides will carry rain ponchos in case they are needed.

The bar’s hours are flexible depending on the guests’ needs, but roughly the hours are 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM and 4:00 to 11:00 PM.

WAKE UP Your Native Guide will politely knock on your door 30 minutes before breakfast according to your daily activities.

SWIMMING Please note the hours for swimming in the lake are from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM during the daylight.

MEALS Meals will be served to your tables in the main lounge. The meal schedule is as follows: • Breakfast time varies depending on the group’s activities • Lunch: Between 12:30 and 1:00 PM • Dinner: Between 7:30 and 8:00 PM

WATER & ICE All ice or water that is used in the bar or for cooking is ozonized water from our own potable water treatment system.

CARING FOR THE ENVIRONMENT Please take into consideration the following guidelines: • Follow the instructions of your guide at all times. • Please discard of any sanitary napkins or toilet tissue in the waste basket provided in each room and bathroom. • If you brought any plastic containers, aluminum cans and/or batteries, we kindly ask you to take them with you when you leave. • Please apply insect repellant before entering the trails. Insect repellent bracelets will be provided to lower the use of bottled or canned repellent. • Plastic bottles are provided upon arrival in the motor canoes. Please re-use and re-fill them during your stay.

AIR-CONDITIONING

PAYMENTS AT THE LODGE

For ecological and conservative reasons, there is no air conditioning in the rooms at La Selva. There are ceiling fans for your convenience and comfort. Although, after a short period of time you will find how quickly your body will adapt to the environment and change of climate.

Please be sure to settle your bill during your last night at La Selva. We accept US Dollars and Credit Cards can only be used for payments above $50. Travelers checks are also accepted.

The open design of the rooms allows you to listen and enjoy the sounds of the wild, while maintaining a genuine jungle experience in maximum comfort.

TOWELS Towels are changed according to our environmental policy in order to conserve energy. Please hang your clean towels to dry and leave dirty towels on the floor so housekeeping will know to change them.

GUEST BOOK We invite you to leave us your comments and memories about your experience at La Selva in our guest book at the bar lounge for an everlasting souvenir of your presence.

ACCOMMODATION The hotel consists of 18 suites of varying sleeping configurations and several public gathering spots. These include the spacious dining room with a rooftop lookout point, an open-air combined bar and a lounge with a wrap-around view of the lake. Public bathrooms can be found in the reception area.

HOUSEKEEPING Each suite is provided with a pitcher of drinking water and the cabins are cleaned every morning. We provide you with at least two full services per day. We normally service all cabins while you are enjoying your outing. If for some reason you decide to stay in your cabin, we will not disturb you.

CHECK-OUT

At the end of your stay, we kindly ask you to fill out our comment cards. We are always looking to improve the experiences we offer at La Selva.

You will receive a briefing the night before leaving the lodge.

TIPPING / GRATUITIES It is customary to leave a tip for your guides. Tips are at the sole discretion of the guests and should be based on the level of service received. • $10 per person, per day for your naturalist guide and $5 per person, per day for your native guide. • $10 per person, per day for all staff members (30 in total); you will find a box on the bar for staff gratuities.

WILDLIFE OBSERVATION JOURNAL Please note your special sightings of any wildlife with location, time and date. Your loggings will be a great help monitoring the natural life that surrounds us at the lodge.

ELECTRICAL CURRENT All electrical outlets at the lodge are 110V, obtained through diesel generators.

On your last day, please leave your bags outside of your room. Your staff will transport your baggage to the airport and your guide will take care of check-in.

SHOP In the store, we have the necessary personal and travel items available for purchase in the case that you might have forgotten them, as well as other La Selva souvenirs.

CLOTHES DRYER / WASHER Dryer service is available for guests when clothing has become wet or damp after an excursion. See the reception desk when services are needed and leave your clothing to be dried. Hours of service are 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM. We ask that you use the dryer service for clothes only and no shoes.

Special Programs BIRD WATCHING SPECIAL PROGRAM La Selva Amazon Ecolodge & Spa The area surrounding La Selva has perhaps the largest list of bird species in the neo-tropics due to its perfect location on the border of Yasuni National Park. This forest is full of birds and there are wondrous sights and sounds for all. If you’d like, we can arrange to have breakfast ready as early as 4AM so that you can be in the middle of the forest by daybreak.

Bird watching can be done easily at any time during the day. Great public spots to bird watch include the observation tower at the top of the bar and from your own suite.


Special Programs HONEYMOON PACKAGE La Selva Amazon Ecolodge & Spa DAY 1: 1 We will pick you up at the airport upon your international arrival in Quito, Ecuador, where you will be taken to a luxury hotel to enjoy your first night in Ecuador. DAY 2: After a delicious buffet breakfast at your hotel in Quito, we will pick you up and take you to the airport’s national terminal where you will be met by a La Selva Representative for your flight to the Amazon Jungle.

DAY 2-5: At our friendly Amazon Jungle lodge, La Selva, you may partake in many of the daily excursions offered to the other guests. You can participate as much as you’d like in the adventurous activities or relax and enjoy the pleasant serenity of the jungle with your loved one.

Family memories made here are unforgettable, like who spotted the most monkeys, who swung like Tarzan the farthest, or what friends the kids made in the lounge while mom and dad relaxed peacefully in hammocks.

RAINFOREST EXCURSIONS LA SELVA AMAZON ECOLODGE & SPA

WALK TO SILVERIO’S HOUSE: Walk to a native family’s home involving a natural, real and authentic cultural experience.

MATAPALO TRAIL: Introductory walk where you’ll have the chance to appreciate the primary forest.

HOTEL OBSERVATION TOWER: The top of our bar and restaurant offers incredible views and bird watching opportunities. Also, our newly reconstructed observation tower is now ready in the middle of the forest.

SACHA HUAGRA TRAIL: Crossing Lake Garzacocha, walk through a virgin forest to observe marvelous trees, as well as other plant and animal species.

BUTTERFLY FARM: Close to the lodge, watch and photograph butterflies at close range while witnessing the miracle of metamorphosis. PARROT CLAY LICKS: On the shores of Yasuni National Park, on the Napo River, a unique site with parrots, macaws and other bird species can be seen. CHAWAMANGO TRAIL: Surprises can be found along the way on this trail heading east on the Mandiñan trailhead.

TOUCANERA’S TRAIL: Walk around the lodge where you will get a general idea of the tropical rainforest (flora, fauna and microfauna). CHARAPA TRAIL: Short trip by foot around the edge of Lake Garzacocha. Return by canoe to the lodge. MANDIÑAN TRAIL: Lasts three to four hours, depending on the animal sightings that happen along the way. The entire trail is by foot to observe flora and fauna typical of the tropical rainforest.

JUNGLE EXPEDITION TOUR: One walk through the virgin forests and you’ll appreciate the Giant Kapok Tree (Ceiba Pentandra) and the Strangler Fig Tree (Ficus aurea). CANOE RIDE: Enjoy a canoe ride on our lagoon, Garzacocha, and discover a great diversity of plants and animals in two different landscapes and ecosystems.

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES SUNSET CRUISE: Price: $80 Per Couple We will have a decorated dugout canoe ready with some bites to eat and wine; the paddler will take you and your loved one along the lagoon to enjoy the beauty of an Amazonian sunset.

NIGHT EXCURSIONS: Hikes and canoe rides allow guests to hear nocturnal sounds and look for fishing bats, nightjars, insects and possibly catch a glimpse of the caimans.

Our experienced yoga instructor at the lodge will be leading the sessions in a schedule that permits you to also enjoy the excursions if you’d like. Session times are very flexible and our instructor may be able to schedule around your preferences.
