EXHIBITION OPPORTUNITIES As a Photography major, you’ll have a wide variety of exhibition opportunities — including Manifest, a student-produced festival that showcases the hard work and talent of our wildly creative student body.

SHAPE WHAT’S NEXT IN PHOTOGRAPHY Creative careers are made here. From your first semester as a Photography major at Columbia, you’ll make images constantly and develop your unique perspective through regular critiques with your peers and our renowned faculty of professional photographers. You’ll spend a significant amount of time creating a polished portfolio and gain important experience in the photography industry that will prepare you for future success. The city of Chicago will be your campus — and your inspiration. Columbia is home to the Museum of Contemporary Photography, which brings some of the world’s most innovative artists to Chicago each year through exhibits and programming.

AT COLUMBIA, YOU CAN: Learn how to view, interact with, and shape visual culture. Utilize a state-of-the-art inkjet print lab and 6,800 square foot lighting studio. Hone your craft using digital techniques and fully equipped darkrooms. Work at Chicago studios, galleries, museums, and companies.

FACULTY SPOTLIGHT

KELLI CONNELL Professor of Photography Kelli Connell’s work investigates sexuality, gender, identity and photographer/sitter relationships. Her work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the J Paul Getty Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Photography, among others.

NOTABLE ALUM

NATALIE KRICK MFA ’12 Photography MFA alum Natalie Krick interrogates cultural perceptions of women in her award-winning photography collection Natural Deceptions. Krick challenges societal norms of photographing women as “easy on the eyes” with her brightly colored flash photography, collage, and photo manipulation.

FACULTY SPOTLIGHT

DAWOUD BEY Professor Dawoud Bey received a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship for his accomplishments in photography. His work has been published and exhibited worldwide at the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Portrait Gallery in London, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, among many others.
